Does Anyone Like Golden Nugget.?

It is the class of downtown, IMHO, best pool, good selection of restaurants, decent showroom, rooms are nice to, casino can get crowded, have stayed there many times and would gladly stay there again...

 

It is the best hotel downtown...the most similar to a strip hotel. Very good food there too... but I think the reason you don't see a lot of love for the Nugget is specific to their casino... higher limits and very tough comps compared every one of their downtown competitors.
But if you're only making a decision on a property based on room quality & hotel amenities, then the Golden Nugget is your place.

 

Only place we stay downtown, pool is very crowded but they have an adult only infinity pool which is usually perfect. Love it there, food is great and my host is awesome.

 

I agree with all of this. That being said, I haven't stepped foot in there in 10+ years because of the casino and the very poor VP paytables. If I wanted those kind of paytables and shitty employee attitudes, I would stay on the Strip.

 

Wow.....couldn't have said it better. I find it claustrophobic, too.

 

It is quaint but as others have stated the casino is so so and very small. Based on a very short gaming period during one afternoon, we are consistently getting 3-4 night offers with FP

 

I do agree with you 100% on the attitude especially the Bartenders. I literally had three higher ups listening to a rampage of mine, when every last bartender harassed me while playing VP , I told them why don't you have guests where a fucking badge saying there staying there if your so worried about comps at the bars without people playing your posted minimum. I put in 100 at a time every time , and I don't need an asshole looking at my machine every time I order a beer. Makes no sense when I can go the floor and bet 30 cents an hour and get shit faced all I want.

 

As others have said, GN has the nicest rooms downtown (I've stayed at GN, Fremont and 4Q and been in one of the rooms at the "D" -- saying it's better than the Fremont though is like saying you are smarter than Khloe Kardashian -- serious, I think I got the scabies there). I'dput the rooms on par with the average rooms at Mandalay Bay -- maybe not for view, but certainly for furnishings and amenities.

Also, of all the downtown properties, I get the best offers from GN -- I just got one today for $350FP + 4 nights and I can usually combo those with some other offers like gift cards or a slot tourney. By comparison, I get shit from Fremont even though I put just as much cash through their machines.

Casino at the GN is so so -- but I really like all of the downtown casinos and being able to walk between them easily.

No comment on pool. Has looked crowded when I've walked by it, but never been in.

I've only stayed downtown once and that was at the GN, with a large group. Rooms were better than expected. Loved the pool, but get a cabana, the waitstaff up there are great. Poolside blackjack is also fun; I think they put the friendly dealers out there!

 

Those 2 level suites there look pretty bad ass.

 

I've done the PPHOLD thing to book rooms there and not stay in them for the freeplay then they let me get the freeplay without the rooms.

I'm not a fan of downtown so have not stayed there, but I do gamble there and the Golden nugget is a good place to gamble.

I do like the pool girls but they do have bad rules.

 

I played there a bit when I was denied access to a lounge. I have not stayed there.

Like others have said though, it is easier for me to get comps elsewhere with better VP odds so I generally don'y play there.

 

Can I ask who your host is? I had a phenomenal host for 4 years... then he left vegas.. and now every host I get has quit by my next trip several weeks later.. do I run off hosts at GN? LOL
