Favorite Podcasts - Vegas and/or Gambling related

Yes, I also enjoy many of those. Vegas Fanboy is good as well.

I need to check some of these out. I unfortunately don't really have the opportunity to listen to podcasts; my commute is literally a 10-minute walk, and I usually have to concentrate enough at work that paying attention to a podcast isn't the best idea.

The only one I listen to semi-regularly is Five Hundy, but I have to admit, their voices just kind of grate on me sometimes. I can't explain why.

Does Roeben host the Vital Vegas podcast? My one knock on him as a writer is that his posts tend to be a bit too long sometimes, but that's a trait that fits well with the podcast format (plus it's worth reading regardless, because he often has great info/photos). And he's probably the closest thing the blogosphere has to an industry insider.

 

You Bet on That & My Cousin Vinny's are my two favorites. I have tried to listen to Five Hundy but I don't see the big attraction. I do however find Five Hundy a great cure for insomnia

 

I really love gambling with an edge. It's kind of funny how pretentious these guys sound without really actually being pretentious. They're just so good and experienced at what they do, which is why I love hearing their stories and answers to questions. Total respect when I say that because clearly they are successful APs. I've read almost everything I know that Bob Dancer has written. The podcast has really bad sound quality in the earlier episodes but they get better in the more recent podcasts. They also answer listener emails… I definitely recommend gambling with an edge.

 

I'll put in another vote for You Can Bet On That... it's far and away the most entertaining of the bunch in my opinion. I've tried most of the others on the list as well, but the only other one I consistently listen to is Gambling with an Edge. I'd guess Five Hundy by Midnight is the most popular, but I don't get the appeal at all. I just don't care that much about Vegas news/reviews, I just want to hear gambling stories.

Edit: Not on the list, but I also enjoy ESPN's Behind the Bets. I don't really even bet on sports (I don't count betting on Cal since there's no chance of winning), but they've had some pretty good interviews and its always interesting to get the bookmaker's perspective.

 

I personally wouldn't mind seeing that… It's also funny because he has a very recognizable unique voice.

 

Some of the older episodes of Gambling with an edge are great with high level BJ players talking about taking trips overseas looking for games. I think Munchkin is into high level advantage play with carney games. He's alluded to in past episodes (I haven't heard anything in the last 7 months) that BJ counting is impossible for him now and has been for a long time.

 

It was really interesting to hear some of the AP BJ guest talk about counting to get advantage of the side bets and that was in some places a higher payout than counting cards.

Why did Munchkin say BJ counting was impossible for him now? Casinos just know who he is and 86 him??

 

Cool, thanks! I like the episodes with the tax guy as well. Always learn some interesting facts that will really matter to me because I'm not an AP... and get to hear some pretty crazy stories.

I'd love to attend Bob Dancer's VP classes sometime in the future. It'd also be a great opportunity to check out the south point. Anyone ever attend one of his classes???

 

Yeah, I recall Munchkin saying that it's not worth his time and effort to count BJ bc most places know him. Also, it's very common for casinos to utilize software to catch counters by looking at betting tendencies instead of relying on a pit critter to back someone off.

 

Way late to the party here, but thanks for the recommendations, I have listened to so many of the "you can bet on that" podcast thanks to this thread now, it makes my commutes fly by now.

 

Be sure to check out Vegas Gravy podcast. It's an older one no longer produced, but some of the roughly 9 episodes produced are pretty entertaining. That G Train was ahead of his time!
