I have a work trip in a couple weeks. I have comped rooms at the Ameristar from my play here in CO. Anyone been to the casinos in this area?

I was in Council Bluffs in February and stayed at the Ameristar. First, they absolutely will not let you check in before 4 PM. I got there at 3 PM and they would not allow me to check in. I like the poker tournaments at the Horseshoe. They have good selections of slot machines also.

Greetings! Me and my wife are actually staying at Ameristar in CB in a few weeks for a couple nights. We have been to all the Council Bluffs casinos. So I will do my best here. These are what you'd call our "home" casinos.

Ameristar - I consider this the best overall casino in Council Bluffs. For a riverboat is is pretty lively. The hotel is nice. I really like it because of the craps tables, and Amerisports bar. I've never had a bad meal at the sports bar. The only negative is the Pinnacle gaming membership. They have properties in shall I say odd places. Although their KC property is wonderful. Ameristar CB also has a buffet, steak place, and a diner that is open at random times depending on the day. The buffet is pretty good as well.

Harrahs - Smallest of the casinos in the area. They had a riverboat and due to maintenance turned all their ballrooms into a land based casino. It can be hit or miss here if it's busy or not. Most tables only run from 10am-2am minus weekends or so. They do have one or two blackjack tables open 24 hours and sometimes a random game if it's busy or steady enough late into the night. The 360 steakhouse is the best of three area casinos steak restaurants. They also have a buffet and a 24/7 cafe style place. The cafe is not too bad late at night.

Horseshoe - Another CET property. This is your biggest, busiest, and most variety of the three. They stay pretty busy 24/7 and have several more slots and tables than the rest. It is land based. They have a poker room as well. They have a buffet, cafe, and a steak place. I've ate at the buffet and cafe, they are just ok.

There are certain days during the week that Harrahs buffet is closed and Horseshoe is open and vice versa. Like a Mon/Tue or Tue/Wed. This is when they run certain specials.

Oh, and we have been able to check in early before at Ameristar. It really just depends on the day.

I prefer the tables. Craps actually is usually pretty good, and the waitresses keep the drinks flowing.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I don't get in until around 5pm so hopefully no check-in issues. I will probably do most gambling at Ameristar, but if I have time maybe will check out the Horseshoe.

Ameristar is a fun place, we love it. If you play tables, they can keep the drinks flowing that is for sure!

Have you been there recently? Still free drinks for table players?
