Back in January I picked up a 2012 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 with 36k miles. It was traded in at a Volvo dealer where it’s unlikely anyone would buy a Hyundai. This was the first year for the Hyundai built 8 speed transmission so I also bought a Zurich after market extended warranty from my local Hyundai dealer because of numerous reported problems with the new tranny. Sure as sh!t, the transmission started shifting poorly after 6 months and I was able to get Zurich to replace it. Other than that, the car has been great.

While I wait for the new transmission my warranty provides for a free loaner, so the dealer hooked me up with a 2017 Sonata Hybrid, must have been a leftover. My only beef with this car is that it lacks power for passing. Other than that it feels solid and on a 200 mile trip I was able to get 44 mpg. There were several times on flat pavement the car was under electric power at 70 mph.

I owned one of those for a short time, mine was a 2012 Red Grand Touring 3.8 , I had picked up used. Loved the handling, power, and stereo.
Hated the suspension (beat the sh@t out of you on rough pavement) and highway drone. Only had it one summer and got rid of it after road tripping it across the south from KY for 10 days.

My bad, I have the Sedan with the 3.8 engine. Just got it back from the dealer and they installed a remanufactured transmission, so far, so good.

Yeah those are a little nicer than the coupe. Still sad to see Hyundai dumped the Genesis Coupe it and decided the Velostercraper was their goto sports car.

Hyundai made Genesis Motors a stand alone brand in late 2015 and will bring out a coupe in 2020. But one of my friends recently picked up a Kia Stinger, he turned 50 and had a mid life crisis. It’s an awesome car.

I test drove one and your right, mechanically its a great car. They problem I have with it is, it has a KIA badge and the KIA Stealerships behind the brand.
Not to mention, it has too many styling cues from the Optima. The Stinger Concept coupe was a beautiful looking car.

I think the Stinger is going to follow the same footsteps of the K900 which could not compete with the luxury brands and was relegated to the rental car fleets.
Kia is building some great cars, but still has a long way to go in raising the brand and dealer service.

I'd lease but never buy a Kia these days.

F99CDE41-D519-4AD4-A443-AE95686A790E.jpeg I ended up getting a used 2013 Silverado 1500 LTZ. Loaded, has everything except a sliding rear window. Black isn’t my first choice, but it only had 25,550 miles on it so I couldn’t say no!

I rented a Silverado 4x4 last March for a trip to Boston, there was a blizzard that shut down much of the city. But that truck was unstoppable in the snow. Good luck with the new ride!

I want to know why we can’t get a single dealership here to negotiate at all on pricing of used V-8 extended cab trucks? The prices on even one with 60,000 miles are high. My husband puts 100,000 miles a year on his so it is just not worth buying new. He runs them back on logging job sites to meet customers so he needs a durable vehicle. I’m speaking Upstate NY @PACKER. It’s not a Lexus or luxury vehicle, but any idea how we can find better pricing on a used truck? The one he traded in last he had 263,000 miles on it! He’s anal with maintenance and keeping the salt washed off. It just sucks having to spend so much for a vehicle he can’t run more than 2 years with the amount he drives. His company pays for all gas and gives a minimal mileage reimbursement ( which just started) but no car allowance. Kinda bullshit when he’s selling $30 million a month in equipment for the company. From the first year we moved here he has always been in the top 2 salesman of CAT equipment in the entire state. They don’t pay him shit.

    Hi Hoofy7,
It just might be worth looking for one in Texas, Colorado, California Wyoming and other states and shipping it to you. Shipping isn't that much. I don't deal with used but i know it's much more competitive elsewhere in the country. Keep in mind, he drives that car for work im assuming he writes most if not all of those cost off anyway so you might be spending during the year but get it back (all or some) every april or October..

By the way, the very best time to buy or lease a new car is now!

Here is a Lexus lease i just did.
    2019 RX350..
2500 drive off (only 1500 if prev lexus or toyota customer)
    10k miles
    475 plus tax
This is on a RX over $53,000

Here is a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Limited..
    440 plus tax
    5k drive off
    12k miles
    36 months
This car has a msrp of more than $49,500

You see, typically an import has a much lower pmt on a lease then a domestic car. All due to mostly low residuals and a higher money factor.

    Happy holidays..

That’s why we get audited every single year! They don’t believe the miles he puts on and every year we have all the proof documented and they give it to us 9 months later. Lol But as of this year NY state no longer allows it for taxes! Can you believe that? He won’t be allowed to use it for a deduction. So getting the right deal is crucial.

@Hoofy7, I’m self employed and I use the mileage deduction for business travel, in 2018 this is $.545 per mile. However the big change in 2018 is for folks who had unreimbursed expenses:

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act also suspends all miscellaneous itemized deductions that are subject to the 2 percent of adjusted gross income floor. This change affects un-reimbursed employee expenses such as uniforms, union dues and the deduction for business-related meals, entertainment and travel.

Thus, the business standard mileage rate listed in Notice 2018-03, which was issued before the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed, cannot be used to claim an itemized deduction for un-reimbursed employee travel expenses in taxable years beginning after Dec. 31, 2017, and before Jan. 1, 2026.

Since your husband is an employee using his own vehicle to call on customers, he won’t be able to claim unreimbursed business expenses because of the new tax law. He needs to have a Come to Jesus meeting with the boss in regards to improving his expense reimbursement. If he is selling equipment at this level, maybe he needs to look around at what the competitors are offering.
