Two days of disappointment in one post... I think this works out to 5 aces in 648 tries... [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

I head my biggest ever "near miss" earlier this week.

I was playing 3-handed STP at the one dollar level. The first four cards were 4-to-a-royal, and then the multiplier came up and stopped on 8X. I started chanting 10 of hearts, hoping for a $96,000 win. Instead I got a different heart.
I thought briefly about whether I should keep the flush, just to make sure I wasn't doing anything stupid, but there really wasn't any choice. So I made what was in effect a $720 bet.
You can pretty much guess what happened as otherwise I'd be posting in a different thread. I struck out completely on the first two hands and got a pair on the third. ☹️

I was too disappointed to take a picture after four misses at what probably would have been a once in a lifetime win.

On the bright side, about 15 minutes later I got another 4 to a royal, with no multiplier, and this time managed to draw the right card!

At least I got two flushes...

And in a completely different category, does this count as my first Video Poker handpay?

Better than my first. My first experience with the "jackpot music" was worth 50 cents. I let the attendant keep it.

I'm kind of kicking myself for not playing as much VP as I used to, and I've kind of cycled back around. I was in AC this past weekend and had some good runs but also some disappointment hands. For the latter, I'm not even bothering to include all of the near misses in 3- and 2-to-a-royal scenarios that I had this trip. But here's two particularly brutal ones...

    IMG_2367(1).jpg

Another one of those flushes haha. I definitely tried to get something nice on $1 denom this time, and the best I could muster was some 4OAK, which were coming pretty frequently for me this trip. Perhaps I should've been playing a version that paid those better but I like my trusted ol' JoB.

There was an odd pay table on that first two below (same machine, not that far apart in terms of hand count). I had the choice of this or 9/5 with a full pay on Straight Flush. Given I expected much less of a chance on a straight flush, I opted for this, and looking at the payback %s online after coming home I made the right call. Reading up I guess this paytable sometimes crops up on machines with a $5 denom option as it avoids the handpay on a straight flush, which is nice. Perhaps one day I'll be at that level, but not right now :)

Great hand, better on other poker versions of course - could count as a disappointment if I played those versions regularly.

All in all VP was good to me - will probably put more energy into it for awhile going forward to see if I can keep that going.

47.8/9/6 JoB (99.52%) for dollars is a pretty nice option for Ocean. VPFree2 says they have standard 9/6 for dollars in high limit. And yes, that payout is generally offered for $5 games. But I've seen it at Gold Coast for as cheap as quarters before.

I preemptively called then bastards for that SF payout but then I realize that on $5 JoB it’s no longer a hand pay. Only the royal is a HP on $5 JoB with that schedule. So I guess that’s “good”? But of course we all should be report each and every win and loss to the IRS.

Yeah, at the $5 level I would definitely play it. When only the straight flush gets shorted it's not bad as it only costs 0.02% in return.

But MSS has a $5 9/6 DDB where both the SF and 5-K is set at 239. This hurts a lot more as has a 98.60% payback, which is 0.38% less than normal.

Also Cosmo has a 3 line $5 10/6 DDB game in the high limit room, but 5-K quads only play 200 coins, which sounds harsh to avoid handpays. But along with the higher full house, the rarer SF also gets 500 coins to help boost the return. But I definitely would consider this option as the overall payback is 99.02%, 0.04% more than normal 9/6 DDB. And there are no hand pays on a single, garden variety quad from dealt trips.

But of course, the double straight flush and lower quads changes strategy a bit as well.

I did not see it in the dollar machines I checked in high limit (there were only a few machines) but could have missed it. But for such a minimal hit on overall payback it works for me. It certainly was the best paytable I played on in AC.

I get spoiled at home because Foxwoods has full pay at $1 and Mohegan even has it at quarters although no comps at that level.

Borgata has 9/6 JoB available at the bar for as cheap as quarters.

I wouldn’t normally call this a disappointment; but I had been playing a lot of deuces-wild on this machines a bit earlier.

(I did get 4-deuces on deuces-wild on that machine earlier that day. I’ll post some more later.)

A hodgepodge of some almosts from this week. I have a victorious post for VP Porn coming shortly after I post this. Let's start with today, washing free play:

And a bit later (you'll notice the credits are a touch higher... might give away the VP Porn post haha):

From earlier this week at Foxwoods:

    IMG_2657(1).jpg

This last one's in there because this was my first over 10x multiplier on DSTP and I certainly wish it was put to better use:
