I've never taken advantage of the annual cruise and was hoping that I can get info from the board on the ins and outs of claiming it.

I would likely be choosing a cruise that begins in FL.

Any and all help is appreciated

you will need to call the 800# to book your room with promo code. you will only pay the port taxes up front.. from there, the nickel n diming begins. drink pkg, internet pkg, specialty dining, n shore excursions. i actually have a cruise leaving next week, unless the hurricanes mess that up, departing fort lauderdale for a week in the southern caribbean.

if it's your first cruise, try a smaller boat.. and 4 to 5 days. you might want to upgrade to a balcony or junior suite. the slots were loose last year then tightened up the last 3 days of the 7 day cruise. sign up for their casino program and you will get emails for a "free cruise" every few weeks. i only check them now b/c they offer me a junior suite now. my only cruise experience is with royal caribbean.. 3rd cruise next week.

This has all the details https://www.mgmresorts.com/en/mlife...aribbean-and-celebrity-cruises.html#/Overview
In essence the mlife benefit is a $200 on board credit as an Mlife Plat. You can get up to a 5 night Caribbean cruise free in an oceanview. (paying only port charges). In my experience they are not flexible at all in allowing you to get an equivalent amount towards a different cruise. YMMV of course.
I took a 7 day European cruise as a Noir and it would have cost us $8000 for 2 people; if I had wanted to upgrade to , say ,a 10 night cruise they only offered about $1000 discount off the other cruise, or maybe it was $1500, I forget now. Fortunately they were flexible about the dates, my original email offer said I needed to take the cruise by June 30 ,but they allowed me to go end of July, no problem. (received offer in January).

They’ll generally give a $750 credit for mlife platinum if you want to take something longer than a 5-day trip. You can usually get them to give you 20% the rack rate as well, which isn’t too bad. You can take Royal Caribbean or Celebrity. Celebrity is owned by RCI, is considered slightly more upscale, but, there isn’t a huge difference. RCI will pull in a younger crowd, their boats are generally bigger and have more activities that you probably won’t use. Celebrity generally has better food and more upscale food.

Either way, it’s a pretty good perk that I’ve used the last few years, although I always upgrade to a suite, so I have to come out of pocket for it.

One onboard perk that is nice is that you can pull money out of the casino on your shipboard account (linked to your credit card) without any fee. If you have a cash back card, that can be a free 2% in rewards if not more. You can essentially take it out, pocket the cash, and then use it to pay your bill when you come home. Just don’t take more than $10,000 because you’re coming in from an international trip and it requires an onerous customs process. I used it on my Starwood AMEX, and always nice to get thousands of free points I can use for hotel rooms elsewhere. It doesn’t go through as a cash advance, this is actually a credit card charge.

I’d also recommend having a couple of cruises in mind in case the one you want is booked or doesn’t have a room type you want.

If you take advantage of this and do not gamble very much are there consequences?

If you no-play or low-roll on a comped cruise offer, you're only affecting your ability to obtain future comps. I know on NCL, they based future comp offers on your most recent theo.

They do watch everything. For example, I went on their private jet to Borgata from Raleigh around a year ago but really didn't like the place over the 3 day trip, which resulted in less than usual coin-in. This hosed my MLife theo because the Jet fare was considered in addition to the room/food on the the theo calc. This is at least what my Aria host told me. It took me a while to get my theo back up after this trip.

You’re right, if the comp cruise is from the casino department. But this one is just an annual perk from being platinum/Noir with mlife. If you no play the cruise, then qualify for platinum the next year, you get another free cruise out of this. This actual offer has no play requirement. But you can do much better than this annual offer if you do play on the cruise and go through their casino department directly.

When you obtain platinum, do you receive BOTH a RCL cruise and Celebrity cruise or it is just one or the other?

But, I should mention, qualifying once essentially gets you two free cruises, at least the first time you do...

For example, if you qualify as Platinum in January 2019 for the first time, after a few weeks, you’ll be able to book a free cruise. When mlife rolls the benefits at the end of September 2019, you remain Platinum, and would be able to book one if you call them in October 2019.

So free for the platinum card holder and dork you on your partners price? Or is it for two people.

It should be for double occupancy. You pay port fees and taxes for both which adds up, but you'd still pay those on top of any actual cruise fees if you booked it outside of the casino offer.

I just received my cruise offers:
"Your Exclusive M life Rewards Offer Another year of exclusive cruise benefits with Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises!" Celebrity only offers four cruises which are in March and April. Anyone know if this is "use or lose" or if I ignore this if other offers will come?

Here's the narrative directly from MGM: "Qualifying Platinum Members receive one (1) cruise for two per year in an Oceanview Stateroom consisting of a 3, 4, or 5 night Bahamas or Caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean or Celebrity Cruises. The length of the cruise benefit is based on recent MGM Resorts spend and gaming play. NOIR Members receive one (1) cruise for two per year in a Balcony Stateroom consisting of a 7 Night Caribbean or Bermuda cruise on Royal Caribbean or 7 Night Caribbean, Europe, Alaska or Bermuda cruise on Celebrity Cruises."

So it looks very play and spend dependent; oddly, my emailed offer stated an inside room with both Celebrity and RCL offering a seven night itinerary.

After calling Celebrity and RCCL (twice!) I received the information. As a Plat/Noir member, you receive one free cruise a year to the bahamas. Yet, based on your play/spend, you may receive quarterly offers, to find out, go here and enter your MLife number: https://www.clubroyaleoffers.com/ So you could actually have up to six cruises per calendar year.

Well that is certainly interesting. I just looked mine up and yeah I get quarterly offers for comp cruise or $750 value. I've only taken advantage of 1 cruise as I'm on the west coast and have not been able to get timing down for another one. Thanks for sharing that.
