This is the answer I got from TR customer support today. I didn't push my luck by asking whether TCs from spend are included in the 5,000 target. I think yes, but didn't ask.

    I asked:
    • Does it exclude daily bonuses
    • Can it be used to extend a comp stay
    • Will you be able to book it online

Thank you for contacting Planet Hollywood! It is my pleasure to assist you with your Total Rewards Program inquiry. You will receive one complimentary night after every 5,000 Tier Credits that you earn. This will only apply to a maximum of 35,000 Tier Credits earned within the year, giving you a total of 7 complimentary nights. This does exclude daily Tier Credit bonuses earned. The complimentary room night will be loaded into your account within two weeks of meeting each 5,000 Tier Credits.

The complimentary room night offer will be valid through 1/31/20 and is based on availability. You may book them separately or all at once. It can be added to extend a stay.

At this time, we do not have information of the offer being available through your online account. However, you can book the offer through a host or contacting our VIP Services Team at 877-7Player (1-877-775-2937). Please let me know if I can assist you with anything further.

Thank you for choosing Planet Hollywood!

That's actually a pretty sweet benefit. Definitely use that this summer at Tahoe.

Complimentary night? Does that mean if you get one of these nights and decide not to gamble your theo won’t be affected negatively? You earned it. Or is it, here is a free night but you better gamble hard or else.

I expect it to be treated like any other comp night and count in your ADT.

Now I see it as a way for CET to downgrade benefits to players. Right now certain markets always provide free room nights to players at a certain level. By putting this offer out there, I could see them downgrading the number of free rooms and using the ploy of, you can always earn free room benefits by hitting, blah blah blah.

It's the taking of what was once given freely and now requiring more play to get. You could argue this benefit is great for tough to get comp
markets, eg NOLA, Vegas certain dates, etc. However I still find the blackout dates still apply. It will be interesting to see how this benefit is awarded.
I have cut my CET play way back and plan to bleed out comps while I maximize comp return from other casinos.

They shouldn't call it a complimentary night if they are going to charge resort fees. This will forever be my bitch: go ahead and have resort fees if you must, but if you offer me a free room, it should be free. Not $35. I know this topic gets heated on here, but it's really only on "comp" rooms that I have this issue.

It's the same all over. I use points to fly to Vegas and I still end up paying $200 for taxes and service charge. CET gives out free rooms like candy. I'm sure a lot of players don't even cover the comp value cost of the room. I have a low roller family member that consistently gets 4 or 5 nights free on a stay and rarely earns more than a few hundred TCs/day.

My wife just used a teaser offer at Wynn for our trip coming up in May. It's 3 comp nights (Sun -Thu), $300FP, and 2 free buffets each day. Only catch was that it required the full 3 night stay. When confirming on the phone she asked, "how much is the resort fee?". Answer: "We don't charge resort fees on comped room offers". All this comes as a nice surprise seeing how we both played a few hundred bucks at the Wynn like 5 years ago and haven't stepped foot inside since.

I'll view this as a rare net positive for players for the time being.

The thing that would change my mind, and what I'm afraid they're going to do over the long haul, is try and replace "free" offers with this earned offer ploy. If that's the case then there would be all sorts of negatives, the 7 night cap just being one of them.

One thing I've learned over the years with loyalty programs is that any change to a program is usually spun as a win for the customer but winds up being a loss over time. It's also always pitched as "what people are asking us for".

I understand the sentiment, but assuming they aren't just going to say "ok, no resort fee" what would you suggest they should have done instead? Not offer the benefit at all? Give it a different name, like pseudo-comp room? I'm sure the internet's reaction to that would be to laud them for their refreshingly precise labeling conventions...

My guess is if they move to an "all rooms have to be earned" system, they would remove the 7 night cap. Honestly, I think this is inevitable and I don't blame casinos for moving in this direction. It seems like a natural evolution of the business given advances in technology over time. Now that players' theo and actual losses can be tracked exactly (not with table games yet, but it will get there eventually), do we expect that casinos won't use that data? I would and so would you (I don't mean you Nick, I mean the collective you (including me (which I just stated (yes! four nested parentheticals, I've finally done it!)))). I view it in the same way as I do the tickets/lights on bartops... if your play warrants a comp, you'll get one. I don't see how that's unfair.

I'm not sure how the math works out if they are offering this benefit at the expense of cutting back availability.

If it's based on base TCs from gaming and hotel spend, my guess is that a large majority never get to 5,000. it doesn't make sense for them to cut comp availability for a large majority. It does make sense for them to keep higher-level players in house for another night or two or however many extra they earn per year.

I mean, they could carve off 5,000+ base TC players and somehow cut their availability while leaving it alone for everyone else, but that doesn't make any sense to me either.

I think it's about getting a few more nights out of proven players who could go elsewhere and get comped. And of course, incentivizing players on the bubble.

It kinda reminds me of the Cosmo sterling and gold nights... most people who get there by gambling just end up tacking them onto another offer and staying at the property longer, which is good for the casino and the player.

I'd guess this is a psychological ploy to encourage people to extend there stay already knowing they can have a free night for every 5000 TC's. They say a 7 night cap on comped rooms? Via my host I've already been comped 13 nights in a suite this year.

That's enough to cover most basic rooms with a "resort fee" to pay because that fee is likely 80% profit from those who pay it. Most CET hotels basic rooms shouldn't be charging much more than $50 on a weeknight rack rate before the fee, imo.

If i earned 300 TC a day on average (I don't sadly), I would actually be annoyed if I didn't get Harrah's, Flamingo, Linq, or Ballys for "free" before resort fees during most weekdays.

If you have amex plat, and have time to jump thru a few hoops, you can be diamond at caesars by status matching Hilton gold to wyndham.. then Wyndham to caesars diamond. I literally just did over last week and a half.. I'll jump thru a few hoops to avoid paying resort fees.

fyi, i haven't played at any caesar's property in vegas since i turned 21.. ugh, so long ago now it seems..

Hi Ted, yes you are right, there is no free lunch and the casino business is just that, a for profit business. However as most of us players agree the Casinos have an advantage over us on comps. That advantage is lack of full disclosure. There is no fair pricing model for gambling. Take for example the practice of on demand rates based on prevailing demand or required theo level for certain comps. Very few hosts I have met will give a full and upfront disclosure on level of play required. There are disincentives to do so, since they are evaluated on player growth.

It's a guessing game for the player who is met with a " We will look at your play at the end of trip" when inquiring. Tell me any other business (besides car sales) where the customer tolerates a switcheroo when the bill comes due. I'd much rather shop around with my gambling dollars and take the upfront comp, where I get to decide whether I want to play. Now if I feel like the property is being fair, I will give them a shot at my money. However no one wants a weekend of non stop losing, at some point a player needs to establish a loss limit. Where casinos don't calculate real cash losses into the comp mix, the player is taken advantage of. Same as I'd gladly pay those resort fees if I am walking out the door with 8K in won money.

CET has said by this new offer, Hey a free room night at one of our properties is gonna cost you $25K coin in, if your a penny slot player that's gonna cost you $3250 in theoretical house win on a competitive hold slot. Not a very fair return in my book. I'd rather pay the $170 rack rate somewhere + 35 bullshit resort fee.

What can you do except vote with your feet and game the system while you can. I guess for the gambling junkie who this is targeted at, they will always convince themselves they are getting a fair shake as long as they have the highest tier card and get their ego stroked. Those of us looking for For Profit entertainment are going to be constantly subjective about the cost of said entertainment. CET makes Comp Yourself look better every year IMHO.

I don't actually suggest they do anything other than making any "free" room they offer truly free. I totally admit that this is simply an issue that I am pedantic about and that it's not going to change. I just feel like if you determine that my level of play warrants a free room, then it should be free. Not "free except for an ever increasing resort fee that adds absolutely no value to your stay whatsoever". Before the fees came along we'd get free rooms and they were free. Period. I know that I can (and do) use RC's to pay the balance that resort fees create, but then those are points I can't use for a meal or whatever else.

If they do away with the current method of giving free rooms and go to a strictly one night per 5K tier credits policy, that will be the thing that finally pushes me from CET and my home turf of Bally's. I will lose out significantly under that structure and will look elsewhere for a better value.

I would actually argue the opposite, the lack of full information currently works in our favor; it's what allows informed players to maximize comps for their play. One way we can do this now is to take advantage of the fact that CET apparently can't distinguish between a dollar played on slots from one played on VP; I'm sure there are many others. Once all casinos have full visibility and accuracy on every players play, we'll get full and upfront disclosure, but I'm guessing we won't like it because I think the comps won't be as generous as they are now and we'll never get "overcomped" again. Maybe there's a chance slot players will be better off because they'll be "fairly" comped for their play once all the VP players like me are no longer siphoning off their comps.

You can't really view this new offer as if it's the primary way to get a comped room though, it's an added benefit on top of current comps (e.g., you don't have to spend the 5,000 RCs on the room, you just have to play that much). In my hypothetical casino of the future, all comps would be paid for with RCs (and hopefully a single standard room night will be much cheaper than $3250 in theo). I imagine it will be similar to Southwest's reward program, you earn points based on your spend and then you can use those points at a fixed point to dollar rate to buy airline tickets, etc. There will no longer be any "upfront" or "backend" comps at all, you'll either have enough points in your account to pay the $205 per night for your room up front or you won't. At the end of your trip, you'll either have enough points left to pay off your room charges or you won't. And the comp value of every room will be different as you'll just be paying the going rate with your points... and now we finally have full and up front disclosure.

They seem to get the most shit online (well, maybe not more than Boyd recently), but I get more value out of CET than any other casino operator and it's not remotely close. I do agree that things are likely to get worse (at least for those of us who are currently "overcomped"), so I'm going to try and get a lifetime of gambling in before the casino of the future becomes a reality...

Fair enough, but given that binary choice, the obvious answer is that it will take a much higher level of play to get a free room, and those in between 5,000 TCs and X TCs will get nothing instead of a $35 room...

I don't think this will happen. Eventually (hopefully years from now), they'll move to a fixed number of RCs per night for a "free" room, but it should be much less than 5000.

If I can use these free nights in addition to the comped room I'm already getting in Tahoe I can see the value. If that was not the case I would agree with you completely.
