Tax refund for Canadian

Personally don't know. It's just mine retired last year and I had to apply for a new one.(which I've got) 20 years? I sold a property at Mount Baker in the state of Washington many years ago and needed an ITIN to finish the deal. Can't even remember why now.

 

Just had a look on IRS site and the 2018 Form 1040NR is now up- looks slightly different than prior years on page 1, otherwise the same.

 

Update... I used my gmail account to phone the toll free number and it works! There is a little button down there on the left hand side that looks like a phone. Yeah, that's the one.

ITIN renewals in Vegas are done on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

When you call for an appointment, you'll need:
Your name
Your expired/expiring ITIN
Patience

 

Update on my 2018 return- about 10 days ago the website finally showed that they had received my return, and now this morning they show they have approved the refund and is scheduled to be mailed March 8th. So about 2-3 weeks slower than last year- likely due to the back log of the gov't shut down. My 1042's didn't have my SSN# on them either, so there's hope that not having the ITIN's won't slow other's down either.

 

Ah super shitty. I just heard from a friend who also had theirs approved in last day or so and cheque to be mailed by March 15. But <$5k refund for them. Sorry about your bad luck with the IRS.

 

Sent mine in Feb 7th and it says it is approved and will be mailed out by March 15th. I'll update if anything new comes up or if it arrives.

 

Hi, I am filing on my own this year and not using a service for the first time. Can any Canadians confirm that I do not need to complete Schedule OI? The instructions I found online indicate I do not....but it was a bit outdated.

 

You should complete this schedule as far as I know. Should be quick to do unless you have a lot of trips to US to list out.

 

Never got my refund yet so I logged in today and it shows received What gives?

 

I was soooo bad this year and only got my return in a couple weeks ago, whereas usually I send it early early January. So I'm at fault. But if I recall it's close to 7? coming back,,and I could sure use it. I'll have to check tomorrow. (as if I need a reminder,,, but obviously I do).

 

I have always done it. When I used the tax recovery company they said it was mandatory so ever since I keep track of my US trips.

 

I did not complete it so we shall see, when I carefully read the instructions it seemed to validate that it is not necessary. I will report back once I know for sure!

 

Surprisingly I got my check today but it still shows processing. I'm putting it in my US account so I have no risk of it being renagged lol

 

Checked online a couple of weeks ago and it said I owed $3000 instead of getting a refund of $3500. I called the number and couldn't ask for a better person to handle it. I said it's impossible for me to owe I am Canadian and they tax me at time of jackpot. Figured out whoever input the numbers messed up so they quickly changed it. Checked online today and it says everything is approved and mailed out March 27.

I will say that website is very handy and the number to call at least gives us someone to talk to and have everything explained. All I sent was my win loss statements and Jackpot slips.

 

Can I not just get my 7 g refund now?

 

What did it say on the check my refund status?

 

Mine was mailed March 29th.
Most back was from my WSOP win and bingo.

Just in time for my July Vegas trip !
