The "I just lost all my money, and I'm hungry. I just need 5 points to get a burger meal. Can I use my Player's Club Card in your machine to get a burger meal?" Scam. A single guy fell for this when an attractive and innocent looking woman who seened really sweet asked him this. He let her put her card in his machine while he played. Lo and behold, he got a Jackpot and all of a sudden she stopped being nice and claimed that he owed her that Jackpot since it happened with her card in the machine. Unfortunately, the Casino took HER side since on the Cameras it looked like they were playing together. I'd be willing to bet, pun intended I guess that he never let anyone put their card in his machine again after he got burned being nice.

The "Too nice," scam where they plop down next to complete strangers and start amicably chatting away. They then get suddenly nasty in an attempt to steal a TITO. I'll tell an example of this. A guy said he was playing Slots one day and a burly man and an attractive woman begun playing slots and despite having like $100 each in the Slots were literally each playing one penny(The guy thought that this was odd as hell) a spin and chatted up an elderly woman suddenly, asking her personal questions such as if she had any Grandkids, how long she played in that Casino and where she was from... Then the male suddenly got aggressive towards her, getting up and basically sitting in her damn lap(Basically, he was WAY too close to her for comfort and begun saying something like,"I oughta kick your ass right now." Understandably, the elderly woman was unnerved and just wanted to leave. She pressed "Cash out," and looked at the way too close man while the attractive woman stole the TITO in a split second.

Suddenly, the male wasn't interested in being so close to the elderly woman and he and his female accomplice left the area. When the elderly woman looked for her TITO, she wanted to cry when she realized that her TITO had been stolen. The guy playing near her called Management to report the theft and confirmed the elderly lady was robbed. Management checked the TITO whereabouts and all they could say was that it was cashed out like two minutes later. Unfortunately, the Crooks weren't stupid enough to keep playing like some completely stupid crooks have done. The elderly woman was told she was out of luck since they took the money and ran off tbe property. They were much smarter than some stupid woman who stole a TITO and put it in another Slot and played like an idiot. She was playing like an idiot when the original Player(Who was a long time and highly loyal high Roller) asked Management to track the TITO. Needless to say, she was banned for life after being forced to give him back the unplayed money. The money she had already gambled away was given back to him in free play.

The "Where is the bathroom?" Scam is one to watch out for. A guy approaches you at a TITO machine around the time where you are pressing "Dispense," and askes you where the bathroom is. You turn to point at the direction of the bathroom to help him out and in those few seconds he steals your money, thanks you and starts running. You wonder why your money hasn't come out. That's right. Your good hearted gesture got you robbed... In hindsight you would realize that a guy asking a random Gambler for the bathroom and not a Casino Staff Member for help was a red flag.

The "Touch screen/machine," scam is a scam to watch out for. A complete stranger touches your screen or spin button in an attempt to sreal your money. This happened to a woman who said she was playing China Shores and got like 10 CS Bonus Symbols and got the choice to play either Cash Prize or Free Games. She was just about to choose "Free Spins," when a complete stranger reached over and chose "Cash Prize, in an attempt to steal her money and it gave her the lowest cash prize. She was understandably livid and cussed him out and hit him in anger. Casino Staff mentioned this guy had been touching multiple people's screens in an attempt to steal from them and had been complained about so many times. They not only didn't punish her for hitting him, they profusely apologized to her for him costing her free spins and gave her free play for the attempted theft.

The spin button scam is when a Crook spins a random person's button hoping to get a Jackpot Win/Be awarded the money. Most if not all Casinos award Jackpot Money to whoever spun the button. So a random stranger spinning your button and getting awarded the Jackpot money on YOUR money is a very real and sucky probability. Luckily many people are not brazen enough to openly and blatently touch a stranger's slot.

I can't imagine that last version actually happening. While yes they go by who hit the button, I think they'd go to the video tape and see that the person ambushed the player....it couldn't have even been debatable that the two were playing together or that person had permission to hit the button.

I've never run into any of this stuff and generally don't talk to people anyway lol. Oddly the only place I've been approached is Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, which is basically in the middle of nowhere, yet I was approached by an older guy who just looked like any other senior playing slots....he started annoyingly watching a bonus of mine and then started talking to me. I cashed out and he asked if I had spare change. I've also been approached for money in Mohegan's parking garage which is a little creepier.

Kind of weird, don't expect drifters in the middle of the woods in Connecticut, but that's where I've gotten it.

I have an ingenious way to prevent being asked for money when people are watching you get big wins from bonus. Claim that you are still DOWN money. A simple,"I am still down $1,000 even with this big win!" That's a deterrent for not getting begged for money.

With the new variable state machines like Ocean Magic and Scarab. The machines can be in an advantageous state at times. So anyone trying to get you to go to one or away from the one you’re on should raise a red flag. They want you to get the machine into a good state for them to play off.

Similar scam with Ultimate X video poker. If you’re not familiar, the game gives multipliers that are applied to the next game if your score a winning hand on the previous one. But it costs 10 coins per line instead of the standard 5. There’s a loop hole of sorts, you only have to play 5 coins in order to take advantage of an already earned multiplier. It’s just that hand won’t earn additional ones on a winning hand. So scammers will try to get you to leave your machine that’s juiced with multiplier or lure you to one, have you play a hand...they jump screens real fast and switching games on you. Money can go fast on this game so they’ll say “oooops better luck next time.” When you leave their partner swoops in and get all the multiplier.

I've seen more brazen folks actually try to insert their card into a machine after someone else has already inserted money into the machine to play.

Here's a decent defense against this or any other scam that might take place at the TITO kiosk: once you hit the dispense button, make sure to keep at least one hand in front of the slot where your bills will appear at all times. Do not take your hand away from that slot until you have a firm grasp on your money.

If ever there were situations in which it would be [ethically] appropriate for casino management to act like the mafia and take someone into the backroom and break certain body parts (in this case, both of the crook's hands, and maybe both of their arms and legs as well for good measure), these would be it.

I remember posting an idea that Casinos should have money in reserve for robbed victims like the poor elderly woman who was harassed into being inadvertently robbed. The responses were something like,"Your idea sounds excellent in theory but in reality Casinos wouldn't go for it because people would just get their friends and family to "Steal," the cash or TITO and then get the money from both the Casino and get it back later from their Friend/Family members. It be a "Tom, it worked. The Casino gave me the $500 back you "Stole," from me. Also, time for you to give me the $500 back. So the "Victim," ends up with $1,000. Do you see why Casinos don't do the reserve money thing for robbed Gamblers?"

I spoke about the guy costing a complete stranger's game on another website and the reply was something like."I find it hard to believe that the Casino Staff didn't kick the guy out if he had been complained about by multiple people for touching their screens without their permission. He should have been kicked out long before he touched the wrong woman's screen...

If this is the one I'm thinking of, it's not because they were playing together or whose card was in the machine, but because she was the one who actually pressed the button. That's always been the casino rule -- whoever "places" the bet (in the case of slot machines, pushes the button or pulls the lever) is the one responsible for it. The card is totally irrelevant to actual payouts. But, again, if it's the one I was thinking of, the patron was letting her press the button because he thought she was good luck.

I agree that the last one seems a bit implausible though, especially if there'd been multiple complaints. It'd be one thing for someone to be sitting closely with someone else for a bit and letting them spin; it's another to just dive in and take the spin. That's what the cameras are there for.

Makes perfect sense. I had a friend who got lucky once when they lost their TITO and their money was subsequently cashed out by a robber. My friend had their loss compensated in the form of free play on their card, as they were in the highest tier of the player's club at the casino where it happened and went through a host. I would imagine that compensating robbed victims would be a rare occurrence and only for the casino's highest-tier players.

A similar thing happened with the idiot woman who just happened to steal a high Roller's TITO and played with stolen TITO. Idiot didn't even cash it in through the kiosk and then play with stolen TITO. No, this complete idiot had the bright idea to put stolen TITO in a slot machine and play. The WORST TITO to be stolen is the high roller's TITO as the high roller is the Mecca for Casino Management. So, the high roller reported his TITO stolen/lost, Casino Staff track TITO to the machine idiot is playing at, she is forced to cash out the TITO and give it to him and the money she already lost was given back to him in free play. She was understandably banned for life and deservedly so. She was really stupid. He was very lucky that she was stupid enough to put his stolen TITO into a machine. He may not have been lucky had she cashed out the TITO and played with the money or worse, left with the money...

It’s also like the biggest chips being worthless to steal. You cop a banana or chocolate....good luck cashing that at the cage without verification. Green or black....you’ll get away with that.

Same reason the most commonly-counterfeited bill in the U.S. is a $20. $100 bills get checked, lower bills aren't worth it.

I was blitzed in Vegas one night, I know, inagine that. Playing the wheel and dropped 3, 5k chips under the table.

When i awoke from my "sleep" my host messaged me that they were at the cage whenever I wanted to pick them up.

Never heard if someone attempted to cash them or not but I love this Drunken security system.

Thats why the rule for vegas employees is Yellow or below. Dont ask for the story

This is not legal advice, but REAL ID is mostly related to air travel and security. For handpays, the ID question mostly gets down to whether you're properly reporting and paying taxes. As long as the IRS is getting their money, you're likely okay.
