    We are all in the same boat, my friend........ It sucks when there are so many places to eat delicious fatty food....

    BUT,,,,, YOU CAN DO IT....!!!!! We are all here to share with each other the tools that we have all learned and experienced...As we age, weight loss becomes much harder as our hormones change and are reduced... We want quality in our later years and healthy eating helps in that goal....

    Packer's favorite line is ."" Eat to live, not live to Eat" good luck.

    I also would like to lose a couple pounds. Just like ski-doo rider I'm finding it hard to get started. My son gave me a Ninja Blender for my B-day back in August and yet I have not even thought about using it, agh! Motivation is hiding from me and I'm not certain where to find it. I purchased a Personal Trainer on Group-On, $79 for 4 sessions, but I have used all 4 as of Monday and still don't care about eating right. Cost for personal training is now $35 for a 30 minute session and I'm questioning whether it will be worth it since I'm lacking the motivation to eat healthy. I'll keep watching this thread and hopefully something someone says clicks and motivation takes over .

    When thinking about weight-loss, one often has an “ideal” body weight in mind or an ultimate weight-loss goal. It’s very common for people to think that unless they lose dozens of pounds, they will not be any healthier.is a misconception. Studies have shown that health benefits resulting from weight-loss are evident with a weight reduction as low as 5-10 percent. This means that an individual that weighs 200 pounds will benefit greatly from losing 10 to 20 pounds.

    There’s scientific evidence that many obesity-related conditions improve with a 5-10 percent weight-loss. Let’s look at these related conditions and see how modest weight-loss may greatly improve them and your overall quality of health:

    Cholesterol
    Although we have good medications that decrease our “bad” cholesterol also called LDL cholesterol, doctors and patients alike know how hard it is to increase the “good” cholesterol otherwise known as “HDL cholesterol” even by a few points.

    A 5-10 percent weight-loss can result in a five point increase in HDL cholesterol. This deserves applause as raising HDL by these few points can lower the risk of an individual developing heart disease. HDL cholesterol of more than 40 mg/dl for men and more than 50 mg/dl for women is protective against heart disease.

    There are other fat-like particles in the blood that are harmful in elevated amounts. They are called triglycerides. People with high triglycerides are at higher risk for heart attacks and strokes among other problems. A normal level should be below 150 mg/dl, while anything above 200 mg/dl is considered high.

    Losing 5-10 percent of body weight was shown to decrease triglycerides by an average of 40 mg/dl, which is a significant drop. This level can further improve with exercise, a diet low in concentrated sugars, carbohydrates and fats as well as with reduction of excessive alcohol intake.

    Hypertension
    Excess body weight accounts for about 25-30 percent of cases of hypertension. As body weight increases, it causes hemodynamic abnormalities and other changes that result in elevated blood pressure. By losing 5-10 percent of one’s weight, blood pressure, both systolic and diastolic, decrease by 5 mmHg on average. In conjunction with a salt restricted diet, rich in vegetables, fruit and low-fat dairy, this weight-loss could be potentially even higher.

    Diabetes
    One of the laboratory markers used to screen for diabetes and to monitor its treatment is called Hemoglobin A1C. The normal level should be below 6.5. Research has shown that a 5-10 percent weight-loss can decrease this marker by half a point on average. This comes close to the effect that some anti-diabetic pills have on blood sugars.

    Insulin Resistance
    Another condition that is seen with weight gain is a phenomenon called insulin resistance. In this disorder, the pancreas produces larger than normal amounts of a hormone called insulin. Insulin is responsible for keeping blood sugar levels normal. In this condition, high levels of insulin are needed because tissues are resistant to its effects.

    When someone has insulin resistance, the resulting high levels of insulin in the blood cause an increase in fat tissue especially in the waist area, abnormal cholesterol, and sometimes a change in certain hormone levels in women that causes male pattern hair growth and infertility. Modest weight-loss was found to significantly decrease insulin levels and thus to help with reversing these conditions.

    Obstructive Sleep Apnea
    Obstructive sleep apnea is a sleep disorder commonly diagnosed in patients affected by excess weight that snore or gasp for air during sleep. It’s caused by pauses and gaps in breathing during sleep and results in insufficient oxygenation. This causes fatigue and sleepiness during the day. It also is responsible for making certain diseases less responsive to treatment, like hypertension for example.

    When sleep apnea is significant, oxygen levels in the blood are too low during sleep and the use of a breathing machine called CPAP is necessary. It has been shown that a 5-10 percent weight-loss may improve sleep apnea and sometimes if the apnea was not very severe, one can be weaned from the CPAP breathing machine. This is a big achievement for some, as having to use a CPAP is life-saving but often perceived as cumbersome by those who need to use it.

    Inflammation
    In studies looking at the effect of excess weight on cells of the human body, it was found that fat cells and especially abdominal fat cells produce a large number of substances that result in inflammation in blood vessels. This inflammation then can result in plaques and clots and turn into strokes and heart attacks. When weight-loss achieves a level of 10 percent, the levels of inflammatory substances circulating in the blood drop significantly and therefore the risk of vascular damage is reduced as well.

    Conclusion

    All these improvements caused by weight-loss as low as 5-10 percent ultimately lead to very significant benefits including a lesser chance of having a heart attack or stroke. Now, the next question that comes to mind is since we know that a 5-10 percent weight-loss is very beneficial, how can it
    be achieved?

    First and foremost, weight-loss starts with lifestyle changes: diet and exercise.

    I could tell the weight loss helped today when I jumped to grab some wires out of a ceiling tile. I used to have a big verticle and was able to touch the basketball rim when younger so it was nice to feel a little less gravity when jumping today;)

    Ok.. NINJA.. I never go to jamba juice or any other juice place. I Jane once or twice in my life but don't really crave it. My friend went to jamba juice for 6 months in a row everyday and gained 8% of his body weight. Sure in the past I might have broke out the blender at home and make a shake maybe twice in 20 years. It is a hassle to use. Cleaning and lugging it around just isn't what I chose to do.
    HOWEVER..... When @Willie told me about the ninja I was a little skeptical as I thought it was some sort of gimmick. Just another kitchen appliance I don't need or want. He touted it so much that I thought ok, the nutrients, fiber and all the natural healthy vitamins I will be getting really helped me convince myself to get it.
    With my life changing way of eating this can be perfect for me.
    Anyway, I got it delivered in a day. From the first time I used it I knew this was an incredible way to help me continue to be healthy and give me the natural nutrients we all strive for. With its 1500hp motor it blends like I've never experienced before. It blends in a way that it brings out the vitamins and nutrients from every good you put into it. Every meal I have made is the most creamy and consistent drink I have ever had.
    I thought it would taste like crap as I'm putting in some stuff that should taste like crap to drink.
    It doesn't! No matter what I pour into this drink it comes out tasting great.
    Here is one.. I put in fresh kale and spinach that I have froze, 4 organic baby carrots, 5 organic fresh strawberries that I froze, 20 (they are tiny) organic wild blueberries that I froze, protein powder, tblsp flax meal, tspn of hemp seed hearts, couple crowns of broccoli, cucumber, red cabbage, ceylon cinnamon, chlorella powder, shot of pure pomegranate juice concentrate, gogi juice, cold water and a teaspoon or two of fage yogurt.
    Thus seems like a lot but after a try or two it comes easy. No big deal at all. I vary the above ingredients also. Change it up some. Add this take out that but for the most part keep to the above mentioned. Make it the way that's good for you.

    You don't taste the kale, spinach or any of the crappy tasting stuff at all.
    It comes out creamy and fluffy. Lite and airy. The nutritional value of this one drink will keep you alive til 110!! It is the easiest thing to make and clean up is a rinse that's it.
    Just made one.

    Yes my cupboard is full however all I did was take out chips and all the other crap and replaced it with all of these ingredients.

    Oh, the energy I have after drinking this is unbelievable. When I would eat a meal at say carbon I was ready to pass out. I was falling asleep. Even at home after I would eat a not so good meal I would fall asleep right after. Not anymore due to this drink and good healthy eating.

    Makes 20oz... You can see the consistency. So creamy and good. All of that is probably 120 cals buy more importantly is the nutrients and vitamins you get. Willie can elaborate on this..

    You are getting so healthy that you'll be going to Vegas for another 75 years at least..... And although those products do cost money, they will last you for a long time and in the end are cheaper than a few restaurant visits or pizza twice a week for a month....

    This morning I also used my Ninja .. I use it twice a day... Today I had cut up cucumber, broccoli heads, spinach leaves, dandelion leaves, Ceylon Cinnamon, organic Berry powder, protein powder, radish leaves and red cabbage leaves, Chlorella powder and 3 tbls of wild blueberries.... I also added the cranberry and goji juice right in the Ninja as I got this tip from a friend of mine.... It was DELICIOUS,,,, low calories and we absorb 97% of the nutrients as opposed to 60 to 65% absorption of eating the raw fruit and veggies...AND IT IS VERY FILLING TOO....

    The pulverizing action of the Ninja reduces the ingredients down to the molecular level so they can easily pass through the walls in our organs and intestines. THE NUTRIENTS ARE READILY AVAILABLE INSTANTLY AND DO NOT NEED TO BE BROKEN DOWN BY OUR INTESTINAL SYSTEM...

    The newly elected Mayor of Las Vegas, Mayor Packer, was sworn in today at City Hall..... Mayor Packer won the election based on his platform of giving the players in Las Vegas much better playing conditions at the gambling tables and a much higher return on the slot machines..

    Mayor Packer recently took ownership of The Wynn Resort Las Vegas and has promised all of his friends free rooms and drinks and food on their Vegas Trips....

    we were supposed to take 3 weeks off from drinking after vegas - dry out, get healthy, lose a few pounds

    but happy hour ain't gonna celebrate itself, hopefully someone in this thread has more willpower than we do, sadly this is my weight graph over the last 2 months - truly treading water

    luckily golf will be walking only for the next month and the heat is gone so tennis season is back in effect - combined with gym and better eating the drinking shouldn't be too much of an issue... or so we hope

    So how much did Vegas fluctuate all you degens weight on this thread? I lost 3 pounds and ate huge meals but it's probably dehydration and constant running and dancing. Lol

    Packer you looked thin to me! I meant to tell you that when I first saw you but soon as we met I had to go do my session spins in the tournament. Even your shirts were too big! I think you looked really handsome!

    Thank you H! By the way your hubby looked a lot smaller than I expected. He isn't by any means that heavy at all. He is all mussel. Big boned too. All you need to do is shake his hand to know that. He is heavy with mussel not fat.

    He has it in his gut! Lol The rest is just his natural size. I don't think his arms or legs could get thinner. He blames it on my cooking but I blame it on all he does is lift and needs more cardio and sit ups! Hahahaha

    A trip to Vegas October 2014 (which was my motivation for loosing the weight), a Disney Cruise in Feb 2015, and then I completely fell of track

    Ugh down to 194 deffinately a struggle to get these last 10-15 off. I am on track to lose 10lbs every 20 days if I can keep it going. Deffinately would have been further ahead and close to goal had it not been Vegas trip and then fall color cruise back to back weekends

    Pretty much pissed away last 2 weeks just losing gains from the trips.
