    Thanks..... You gotta prepare mentally now. before your trip, on how your are going to approach your trip this week.... This is a contest,, a match,,, and you want to win...Eye of The Tiger.......... When I played sports, mental preparation was very important.... same as gambling... Set limits and ride the hot streaks... Looking forward to your TR..

    Maybe VF will have another Halloween meet up this year.. I'll be there if it happens. I know you'll be there in some crazy costume...lol

    I just read the link,,, sounds good except for the tomato juice,,(lots of salt).... I wonder if we could put cabbage in the 13 bean soup and let it simmer for 3 hours with the beans and get the same results..??

    This "medical" thread on a Vegas board is rather interesting...

    It does seem Willie has it down. He knows exactly how you lose weight. Basically I'm on a similar diet to others. No sugar and no white carbs (bread,pasta,noodles,potatoes,rice... that type of food). Easiest diet to maintain going forward in my opinion. My hard part is staying away from crisps (chips to you). I don't miss sodas. Don't miss rice or pasta. Sometimes miss bread with my sunny side up eggs. My diet is a high fat diet. I lost all the necessary weight in 4 months. I'm helping others as mentor, just as my mentor still pushes me.

    Health is the most important thing of all. It conquers everything. Even Vegas.

    I wouldn't see why not or even some tomato paste would be good added with water

    I do. Every batch has a small head of quartered red cabbage in it. Really good!

    Or how about tomato sauce with no sugar added? Like Pomi or something. I think that only has like 30 mg of salt in the entire box.

    Looks good D. For me only I make this as well. But I use low sodium chicken stock, fresh toms, white maui onions, RED cabbage, red bell peppers, fresh garlic, pepper, bok choi, kale, organic double thick tom paste and no onion soup mix. Fricken delicious, satisfying and filling..

    Yes Packer, it's been called loads of things. Paleo diet as well. You still get carbs but you find it in the green vegetables. You can't help but lose weight. The greatest worry my wife had was the medical test outcome on my numbers, but things like Cholesterol are near perfect. I realize that it's not the perfect answer and I'm aware that a plant based diet is the only true plan that gives most to the body, but I love meat. What can I say...

    Atkins allows high fat content. Does this concern you at all.? Yet with high fat you have perfect cholesterol #'s. That is awesome. Congratulations on your success and even more for mentoring others who need help.....

    We all need help with some things sometimes and I applaud you for taking valuable time to help others improve and possibly save their lives....AWESOME.!!!

    Ok as long as you are aware. I did the atkins too years ago. I lost weight but my blood work was terrible. Glad yours is ok. I also put the weight back on in no time when I went of it.

    Ain't that just the worst feeling,,,,,,,,, losing weight with hard work and discipline and then re-gaining it... We've all done it, but it still sux....

    So,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, knowing this, that weight regain is very possible,,,, we gotta be extra vigilant and watch the scale so we don't climb too much up the scale and we can CORRECT small weight regain quickly.....

    Agreed. My problem, admittedly, was that I got busy with life and took my eye off the ball. Started eating out more, ignoring portion control, eating carbs that I shouldn't etc. (Hey, it's just ONE meal right?) So, when I go to my Doctor for my checkup the answer isn't that the meds aren't working or there's something wrong physically (other than the diabetes and being overweight of course)

    The answer is that I messed up.

    The good thing about this is that I KNOW I messed up and what I need to do to fix it. I know what works (low-cal, low-carb, majority plant-based diet) and I know what doesn't work. For me that is. YMMV depending.

    The even better thing is that I'm finding a bunch of new ways to grill vegetables outdoors right now. Living in Houston, in April, it'd be a shame to not be taking advantage of the current run of beautiful evenings we're having right now. (65-75 degrees, relatively low humidity, light breeze).

    I'm gonna be your tough Uncle Joe here.............. You DON"T KNOW exactly what works or you'd be a svelte 175-180 lbs. by now.... You THINK you know.... I did too.....
    This is where humility comes in... We need to be willing to re-open our minds to alter our thoughts and to "evolve" and improve our knowledge...

    You said you "messed up"...!!!!!!.... At 44 how many more "I messed ups" do you have.? Time to not mess up anymore and go for it... You are worth it..!!!! the people who love you are worth it...
    I consider this as your first office visit. My consultation fee is $375 per 45 minute session....

    Not many. what I'm saying is that what I was doing prior to taking my eye off of the ball was WORKING. My blood sugar numbers were down in the 80's and the weight was falling off.

    It worked, until I blew it.

    I can't afford to blow it again.

    I get that you keep wanting to call me "arrogant" but that's not the case at all. I didn't come up with the diet plan I'm on, Dr. Michael Mosely did. I didn't come up with the workout routine I use, others did. I have gone in circles trying to find something that works for my body, and I found it.

    All I have to do now is stick to it.

    That last bit is the hard part obviously, or everyone would be thin.

    Appreciate the motivation though. I get what you're saying, I just think you're not understanding exactly what I'm saying. :)
