Derek is playing on the same success that past operators do. Create a party vibe, inexpensive or free booze, keep young people in the place long enough that will eventually get drunk and lose their money. I am definitely not his customer base at my age. I can stay home, get drunk, listen music, and not worry about getting to bed safely. Oh year since I am married, I have a 95% chance of getting lucky on any given night.

Funny thing is, once you have more disposable income the more selective I am about who I want to give it too.

There are two things at the D that I really like.

    1. The Long Bar and their Bloody Marys.
    2. Sigma Derby upstairs.

I've never been accused of being a prude but as I get older I become less interested in 20-something ladies in skimpy attire. I don't begrudge people who like them, but I'm just. "Meh". Part of the reason is that I'm married and part of the reason is I'm at the age where I'm starting to feel like a dirty old man. There's only one reason that a young, somewhat attractive woman would approach and hit on my old fat-ass in Vegas and I'm not a customer.

That said, when I'm downtown you can usually find me at the Long Bar playing VP and getting somewhat hammered.

There was also the time at NY/NY that Mrs. P and I witnessed a 7 or 8 month pregnant woman in the party pit dancing.

    That can scar a man.

I've had more women hit on me [non hookers] after after marriage. Then before marriage.

I think I lost interest in 20-something girls in skimpy attire once I had daughters of that age. I might sneak a glance at a classy lady over 40 now and again, but I’m harmless. Mrs MN has everything I want and need.

I guess I should have clarified with whom, that would be my wife. 95% chance factors in my male stupidity since I still have the tendency speak more than I should listen.

Tell me about it. Since I have a twenty something year old son and nieces, the creepiness factor comes into play. Not to mention once your over 40, you gotta wonder what you would even have in common. I have friends who are mentally stuck and their lack of ability to navigate the passages of life have imploded their marriages. I find classy, intelligent women, closer to my age way more physically attractive these days.

Hookers are fun but you can get into trouble!
    Illegal in Clark county!
Nye County has safe and legal brothels. Ask me how I know.
Go there, see what you like,do your thing and get out. Done.

    GREAT Thread..

    1) DTG - This may be a little odd to have at the top, but I really love this place. Big rooms, Freedom Beat is an above average 24/7 Casino restaurant, they are good with comps and Citrus is a nice spot for someone not interested in the "Rehab" pool scene. The crowds are light, but it's a nice getaway from the wild FSE scene.

    2) GG - My first Vegas experience was here, so it holds a place in my heart. I like the "prohibition" feel, but miss Bay City Diner/DuPars. I'm ok with the rooms/property being small because it takes less than 5 mins to get from room to casino floor. (average of about 3 mins. I've timed it)

    3) Plaza - Especially since the upgrades & the renovated pool is a bonus too. The casino floor gets a little trashy at times, but Hash House A Go Go is awesome.

    4) MSS - Still has an old school feel to it, however if you don't smoke, make sure you get a non smoking room. A few years ago they were sold out and put me in a smoking room. I don't mind smoke, (its everywhere in Vegas), but this room was so bad I couldn't sleep.

    5) 4Q - Older, could use an update, but the room was comfortable. Bonus to the awesome players club ladies for helping me take full advantage of my club points.

I haven't stayed anywhere else Downtown, but my favorite of the rest for gambling/drinking/playing:

    6) The D - I always seem to arrive when the Long Bar is at it's most crowded, so while I've never hung out at the bar, it looks fun. They always have room at the tables and Vintage Vegas on the 2nd floor is a nice touch

    7) ElCo - How can you not love that Pina Colada/Vanilla smell when you walk in? I've never had luck playing there, but love the old school charm.

    8) & 9) Binions/Freemont Seem to be one in the same for me. There have been trips in the past that I completely forget to stop by.

    10) Golden Nugget - The horror to have this last!! I don't dislike the place, but it reminds me of a Strip property. I always have fun at the bars, but honestly don't think I've gambled more than $100 over the last 10 trips Downtown.

How are the rooms overall at MSS? After a nice craps session back in March I can get mid week comps and was considering a room there. Pics resemble a low end holiday inn. Like clean and safe but basic. How about compared to Linq or even Downtown Grand?

Very low end holiday inn, yes. Bathroom VERY small. Clean, safe, basic, yes. Quick to the casino floor or any other casino downtown, yes.
A room at DT Grand would be larger and nicer.

I like the rooms at DTG. and while I like changing scenery to see new places it doesn’t look on par with DTG. The Cal does seem on par with their new renovation but a bit small on the square footage. I really enjoy the video poker at MSS but the renovations of the Cal are really nice. I need to put in some gambling time there. I’ve got midweek comps at MSS now which is why I was inquiring. The pics on their own website were less than flattering.

    We all party!
I was at The D and GN this past weekend and here are my thoughts re rooms

This last trip I was in the Rush Tower at GN and thought it was very nicely appointed and had a flash of contemporary styling. Better than the Gold Tower room I was in on the trip prior. The bathroom was spacious with double sinks, but I didn’t like the tub/shower combo.

As for my room at The D, I’ve now stayed in both a suite and in a corner room. The corner room is just a regular sized standard room that has a wraparound window. Nothing else special about it. The bathroom is smaller than the one at GN, but serviceable for one person.

The suite I stayed in last year was not bad by DT standards, but not when compare to a suite at Cosmo or Aria. The weird thing about it was that there were three TVs against the same wall on the same shelf. And the two smaller ones would randomly turn on for no apparent reason.

The perfect order to me! I specially love the characters at "el cortez". The dealers at the craps table are always so nice to us and always super funny and entertaining.

I think the interesting thing about downtown is that there really aren't any properties that check the box across the board. You almost have to use all of Fremont St and the surrounding area as one big "resort". The Nugget has the best property for rooms and amenities, but the gambling conditions are strip like and the sportsbook is tiny. Places like the D, GG, 4 Queens all have pretty good gambling, but their rooms are not to the same level as GN. Cal and MSS straddle the line a bit more, but they're not on Fremont. DG has pretty nice rooms but the casino has no vibe and is dead most of the time. Collectively if you take the best from various properties, you have it all.

Maybe once Circa opens downtown will finally have the single all around property it currently lacks. If Stevens implements the same gambling conditions, that will probably be the case. The rooms will be nice and have modern layouts, the sportsbook will be great, the casino will be large. The only real unknown at this point, is what the restaurant lineup will be, but I think that will be more than adequate.

This is a great assessment. Everything is so close where you stay doesn't matter as much, just find a room that fits your needs and budget then play where ever.

Since Circa will be more along the lines of GN in terms of what they will offer I am hoping to parlay Cosmo offers into a stay at Circa. I’ve got comps at DTG as well but I don’t know if that’d carry any weight with circa.
