    Hey gang,

In a horrible post-script to my last Vegas trip, a few days after my BFF and I returned home, CP found out he has cancer. His outlook is very uncertain. We have done Vegas for 23 years in a row. Usually, we just spend all day gambling and drinking. But, this trip could be the last hurrah and we need to find non-gambling things to do. Usually we do one 3 night trip a year. This time will be 4 nights. Our last trip was a big loser for both of us - evidently in different ways.

For the first time in 20 years we will have a car. Any suggestions?

Tentative plans are a night visit to the Neon Graveyard. Also looking at the High Roller and maybe a Diamond Card free show.

We were hoping for some kind of scenic car trip outside of the city. It'll be blazing hot and he will be on chemo, so I don't think we can do any sort of physical activities like hiking or climbing. A ghost town would be cool. Basically, anything that can be done in an easy day.

We do plan on checking out the Red Rock and M casinos.

How about cheap eats? I do have $75 in Luxor RCs, and maybe my $100 Diamond dinner (if I can get my CET account unblocked). Ellis Island BBQ? Rolling Smoke? We don't eat lunch. Peppermill for breakfast?

    Thanks.

Jesus, really sorry to hear that.

Neon Museum and High Roller are great ideas. I'd consider 7 Magic Mountains, too, which is scenic, outdoors, but doesn't involve much physical activity.

So sorry to hear about your friend.... prayers for him and you.

Neon museum is a must... if stamina is an issue I'd do the brilliant show there (where they light up all the old signs with digital projections) less walking than the actual tour. If you can do it I'd do both of them...

When I did red rock canyon with wife we did not do much hiking we just drove the loop.. same with valley of fire, we drove from site to site getting out to see then on to next, we also looped from there around lake mead and back to Vegas (can add a stop to see the dam). I know these are not new groundbreaking ideas...

Mob museum is great.. I always wanted to go to atomic testing museum as well.

Thanks guys. CP doesn't want any sympathy, but he will take all your prayers.

Red Rock Canyon and VOF driving loops sound like a great way to spend the afternoon.

I personally would recommend the Eiffel Tower over the High Roller if you’re just looking for that unique elevated view. The downside of the High Roller is how slow it turns, you spend much of the time in the pod with a sub-optimal view and then you finally get to the top only to be followed by a slow descent of basically the same view you had on the way up. It’s ok enough but may not be worth the time investment if there are other things.

Agree with the others on the Neon Museum and the Brilliant Experience. If only one then the latter but both are very cool. As is the mob museum but leave lots of time for that. Atomic museum was also very high quality but maybe not quite as interesting.

Other things could be stopping at Gold and Silver Pawn Shop (Pawn Stars) and dropping by Counts Customs shop for a free tour of his place. We’ve done the latter and even my wife who isn’t a huge car nerd enjoyed it enough to buy a shirt from the place.

We’ve also thought about popping over to Freeds Bakery which is where they shoot the Vegas Cakes show.

Find a show you both would like to see, I mean headliner kind of show, and go all out with VIP tixs.

First off my prayers go up for you all. Now I’m not sure if your adrenaline kinda guys or if your friends treatment plan allows but perhaps a once in a lifetime would be one of the rides at the top of the stratosphere.... disclaimer.... I’ve never even made it up there myself ( Paris tower was enough for this gal lol) but my kids did them and though probably wouldn’t again haha they still talk about it 6 years later :)
My best wishes for your friend and whatever you do, may it be the BEST time spent together!!!

Very sorry to hear the news. :(

There are a ton of museums in Las Vegas, but not sure if the stamina would allow for it. Mob museum is pretty great if your into crime and stuff, and I've always wanted to do the Atomic Testing museum.

There's also keno in the room if need be. Good luck!

Not sure if you are into motorcycles or such, but last trip DH and I rented a Can-Am and took a tour through Red Rocks. It was fantastic and the owners are great guys and will take the group along at your pace. The name of the company is Las Vegas Spyder Tours.

Hit up the spa for a massage. When my dad had his chemo he hates massage but they had therapists come into the hospice place he was at and he ended up asking to get one everytime the therapists were there. Depending on his treatment you may need to stay near washrooms.

All right, trip is done. Thank you all for the the well-wishes and suggestions.

C.P. is doing well and is responding well to the chemo. Fingers crossed. The only effects he really has is a loss of taste and he gets tired easily - several nights we were back in the room by 9pm. I've never gotten more rest on a Vegas trip than this one.

We wound up taking day trips to Death Valley and Red Rock Canyon. Both were worth seeing, although we didn't leave early enough to see much of Death Valley.

We didn't get to the Neon Boneyard - our dinner reservations for Hugo's were for 8pm, leaving not enough time.
