Trying something new. Costa Rica

Been pretty sick for a bit. Haven’t been doing a whole lot. Anyway hubby surprised me with a trip to Costa Rica for our anniversary. It’s day 3 now I think. The trip here sucked huge. Was supposed to be Saskatoon to Calgary to Houston to Liberia. They cancelled the Houston flight at boarding time. We were just going through customs. Ugh. Then they lost my luggage. Ugh. Huge lines to rebook. Ugh. Then the phone us to reschedule flights. They decide to send us to Vegas to catch a Houston flight. Wooioohoooo. Haha. I got 3 hours at the airport. Chain smoked and played buffalo gold the whole time haha.


Had no sleep and got here pretty messed up. But I’m getting better now and figured I’d share pics. This hotel is kinda amazing.

We are at Casa Chameleon by las Catalinas. Having a smoke before we go to breakfast. Figured we’d get all the bad luck out of the way before we get here. It’s been a bad month really. We bought a lake house and I think the omens are telling me not to haha. My barn swallows have been dying and hubby passed out one night and freaked me out and our favourite restaurant in the ‘resort town’ we bought at freaked out on me because a asked for my gluten free food to not be cross contaminated. Sigh. Been so anemic for 2 months now. I can barely get around my yard. But the lake house is nice and a smoking deal and screw that guy haha.

Breakfast is included. We pay for lunch and dinner. I might be too used to Vegas but the prices are pretty reasonable and the food has been amazing. I’ll grab those menus when I go. Hubby did a rum tasting thing last night. It was $29 I think. And they’ve been making me gluten free bread special. Like so nice, I just want to cry. I had a burger yesterday with no bun (which is how I used to eat them anyway, I don’t actually like bread haha) and it might be the best thing I ever ate.
There’s only 20ish rooms here and it’s pretty empty all afternoon so I think all inclusive would be a little bit of a waste. People are going on tours or to playa flamingo. The concierge guys will take us down to catalinas or sugar beach (I think that’s what it’s called) in the golf cart too. Not much for activities up here. But the beach is kinda cool. It’s sort of Disneyland. Kinda fake and new but empty and really nice.

 

This was the beach yesterday. I’m gathering the energy to go but candy crushing by the private pool is nice too haha

 

Okay we made it down to the beach. Rained for a couple minutes. Made some new friends.
The paper straw did not make it through the whole drink. The hotel is using bamboo straws, they’re much better

Yeah I loved it too. I was kinda mopey and tired then he said Vegas and I brightened right up hahaha.



So in catalinas this morning it started raining fairly hard. Really nice but super wet. We popped into the art store we went to yesterday. The whole town has 3 stores as far as I can tell. Few restaurants but only 3 stores. I bought these guys. How can you not?


So today we pop back because it’s raining and they had a bathing suit I really wanted but it was $120 usd so I had to think. I don’t really have any because I don’t swim or do pools normally but this is so pretty and it’s a one piece.

They don’t have a change room so he sent us home with it and wouldn’t take the money for it. If it fits I’m supposed to go back and pay him or bring it back. He had 2 in two different sizes and he wanted me to take both. I kinda hate to put it on the net in case some jerk takes advantage but holy cow. Though we will probably buy something else too when we go back tomorrow haha. I’m sure he could call the hotel and get us in trouble too if we didn’t? I dunno. Just kinda floored. Also this town looks like it’s mostly condos expats buy and rent out and it’s off season so it’s almost a ghost town, though quite pretty so going the extra mile helps.

Ooh and the other store with the groceries. They are sooo nice. They have a cellar in the basement and you can go for wine tasting!!

We haven’t seen any monkeys yet. The art store gentleman said there’s howler monkeys around here but we haven’t heard them yet. I’m waiting!!
