Ironically, it's the travel sites that are eventually going to bring this to a head, I think. The major issue is that not only does a lower "base" fee show up on search engines, but the commission paid to said sites is generally based on the room price exclusive of taxes and fees. I think Booking.com (or one of the other big sites) recently said that they've had enough, and I believe there's an AG lawsuit going on as well in one of the states.

Very simple solution for the hotel companies. Offer incentives for guests who book directly with the hotel -- free breakfasts, free play, etc. Many hotel chains already do this.

They generally do this, to be honest. There are constantly promotions on the website even without gaming, where you get a resort credit, a buffet or two, etc. If you have gaming offers, you can only get them if you book directly with the hotel, and just about every one has a "lowest rate" guarantee. But if you use a search engine, it's going to show you the lowest base rate without factoring in resort fees. If one hotel is $150 with no resort fee, but the other is $149 with a $50 resort fee, the latter is going to show up first when you sort by price, and also only has to pay commission on the $149.

I guess I'm just lucky enough to have had a host for the last gazillion years. (well I think since 03? or 02?) So 16 years for sure. But I'm sure if I gambled less, I'd get charged. But, I'd fight it considering my history. I am now on my 4th host at MB, I have one at Aria, and one at B. And I know I can always get in at Cosmo cause they know my play. AND introducing Kevin/Catie to the board...Whas das one downtown?...Oh yah Golden Nugget. Best slot tournaments.Old money...great group of guests.

Hey as the resident Mandalay expert, question for you. I had a host there reach out and I am thinking of taking them up on an offer for a stay with Eagles tix for Sept 28. Should I stay at Mandalay or Delano? I like nice large rooms but is the Delano inconvenient?

i prefer Delano over Mbay, but the 2 bedroom suites are identical except for decor. the elevators at mbay are the main reason for me favoring delano. plus, Delano is by the sportsbook n poker room.

I’ve stayed at MB and Delano many many times. I very much prefer the suites at MB over Delano. It really depends on the room type you are being offered. If it’s a base room at MB verses Delano - choose Delano for the bigger room. If you’re getting a Horizon Suite or better at MB - choose MB. Avoid the Great Room Suite at MB. Delano is not at all inconvenient to get to the casino. Probably a 3 minute walk.

Yeah I got the eagles /concert offer from MB too.... Responded to the host for more details but I don't know him, so it could just be a mass mailer. I'm very particular about event seating so I wonder if they'll disclose where the seats are.
    If it's crap then I wouldn't bother.

I more stayed at MB when I would bring down 8 kids (2 extra rooms comped at MB when they went to EDC) and it's also closer to hit up the Penthouse Lounge which the kids always liked. And I certainly had my share of monster suites. I don't know why I stay at Delano now. I'm not ever disappointed with my suite but if I bring down a girlfriend or a son, I like the second bathroom. I don't find it any further away from the casino, and I do get my WALK/DANCE ON, walking past the MJ area, although if I'm going for dins I use the parking lot to hit up Lupo. OKAY FINE. I'M IN LOVE WITH DEV, one of the young car hosts. But any of the car guys ALWAYS GREET ME...Mrs. Trinca, so nice to see you again...(I don't get that over at MB)..It's just that little extra. However, the boys always enjoyed the semi clad girls in the elevators coming up from the beach at MB, rather than Delano. I know all the desk people on both sides so don't have a problem with anything I request..Like if I'm wanting a massage or facial I can do at either. The little girlies I bring down, (my best girlfriend's daughters I think prefer MB) again I think the elevator thang. I'm 62, hah,,not lookin to pick up anyone in the elevators. Hah. And for compwise, Delano is more if that's an issue. And I will add to the post again, I enjoy Dellas for breakfast. It's farm to plate...they have a lady who makes her homemade jam,,and I always make a point of asking, "What's the jam this month?"..And,,,I'll add again, If I have 4 seats to the Billboard awards, or asking for ANOTHER SHOW, (4 or 8 seats) I'll tell my host, just comp me the theatre seats and put me in your cheapest room...so I'm good. OMG I can't seem to stop this thread,,,I did get my son and his bestie, Maypac comped seats years ago...kinda like $1500 each seat. And they were in the nosebleeds.

Haven't heard back from this MB host, Steve decastro. Decided not to go to the eagles concert and I will certainly ignore all random cold call offers from these mLife hosts. What a joke!

I get these cold call offers from hosts that I've never met - generic offers about slot tournaments or just "call me if you want to try my casino"... Oddly enough, it's coming from hosts at properties I've never stayed at.
The last one from Mandalay Bay was this Steve Decastro and for once I was actually interested in the Eagles tickets... Responded to the email and haven't heard back in a week. So, who knows.

I got the exact same email (right down to the typos). Will be interesting to see if you get a response, I haven’t contacted him yet and probably won’t bother.

Nope. Never stayed there. I do get these emails from different hosts from time to time but rarely see anything I’m interested in. Eagles picked my curiosity though.

Wow! Don't these people bother to read what they are sending out.

Maybe that PGP2020 thing should use some of the savings and hire at least one Official MGM Proofreader.

Steve is a good enough Dude. Did you check one of the boxes in the email, and reach out to him that way? Or did you actually pick up the phone and call to try to book?

I'm asking because, if you are not a senior host or a top level assigned to just a few clients, sometimes these emails are auto generated on your behalf. And replies just cycle back through the Mlife circle jerk system.

I see people get frustrated all the time with "I sent an email to a host that doesn't know me, and I never heard back". Chances are, if you are not in their address book, they go through those emails during downtime. But, if you pick up the phone and call, Id say your success rate will be infinitely better getting something done

I responded back to the email.
Of course, it shows two ways to respond if interested. No, I didn't click on the button.
I'm sorry that these offers are auto-generated on behalf of the host but that's not my problem.

I was planning on taking my dad to the eagles concert but after he explained that the Eagles are basically Menudo after Glenn Frey died, I nixed the idea.
