Governor Sisolak has signed a directive ordering that everyone be wearing face coverings (e.g. masks, face shields) in public, effective Thursday June 25 at 11:59 pm. If you happen to be vacationing in Las Vegas and don't have a mask or other face covering right now, then you should take a few minutes out of your trip to acquire one.

Here are links to just some of the announcements and related articles on this matter:
    Governor Sisolak on Twitter
KTNV 13 article on the mandate
FOX5 Vegas article on the mandate

Also note that Caesars Entertainment already has a nationwide mandatory mask policy in effect, and MGM Resorts has also declared one that will begin on Friday June 26.

As far as how this effects what you can or can't do in casinos, the following seems to be the early consensus (but note that policies may not be consistent between different casinos):
    - On the casino floor, even if you possess a drink, your face must remain covered and you may only unmask in order to sip your drink. If you're not actually drinking the drink, your face must be covered.
    - Similarly with food on the casino floor, your face must remain covered unless you are actively eating food.
    - You may unmask in order to eat or drink in a restaurant. You can remain unmasked for the duration of your meal.

I am curious about how this will be handled at the pool.

I was planning to go to Vegas over the 4th, but due to this and the general increase in numbers, I cancelled.

I do get concerned about constantly touching/adjusting my mask in order to sip a drink. The same hands that are handling cash, touching the machines, touching the chairs now get very close to or touch the face to remove the mask, adjust it at the nose, wrap it around my ear, etc. I just don't like the idea. Hands have to stay way away from the face, but that's not feasible if you're fiddling with a mask to drink.

I'm out here now. At the Flamingo it's pretty relaxed. You can have it off to drink, eat and smoke. I haven't seen anyone get hassled. That may change today with the governor's order. I'll let you know. And, it's not required at the pool.

Who knows what to believe.....at the start of this masks were not helpful and you could pick up covid from cash and boxes and surfaces. Now as more studies have been completed masks are good and they say it's unlikely you will pick it up from a surface. I wouldn't be too worried about adjusting your mask, but what do I know.

I was down in Tunica last mid week and it was enforced. But if you were drinking a beer didn't seem to be a big problem and smoking was OK to have it pulled down. Cleaning machines was over the top...soon as you get up somebody was there to clean it.
Biggest problem was the number of VP machines available - 10 plus 6 at the bar. Put through 5,000 tier but it wasn't all that much fun with so few machines.

I would think everyone that feels a cough or sneeze coming on would pull up mask, would not that prevent 99 percent of problem? I have never heard anyone suggest this???

Ummmm, no that wouldn't prevent 99% of the problem.

The virus is spread by breathing & the associated water droplets that come out with any type of exhale - including just normal breathing. A person could then contract the virus by either 1) inhaling those airborne droplets from being in close contact, or 2) by touching a surface which has active droplets on it and then touching their face.

Putting a mask on the "sick people" only also doesn't work since most people who have the virus don't show symptoms.

Hence, everyone should wear a face covering (it really isn't that bad or big of a deal, so people should stop making it a political thing) and people should wash their hands as frequently as possible. Neither of those things stop the spread entirely but they both do a pretty good job in slowing it.

I know this might sound a bit dick-ish, but it's difficult to understand how this is not common knowledge at this point.

This mask was created for social drinking. I don’t know anyone who has purchased one so I don’t know if it’s a good quality mask or not

Sounds like all bars are closing, or can only order drinks from bar but not sit at the bar, and masks required at all pools except when in the actual pool....this combined with Chicago requirements for quarantine upon return could kill my upcoming trips :mad::mad:

"Sisolak said his office was also looking at actions taken in other states to close down pools, water parks and gyms, given issues with mask wearing in those establishments. He clarified that people need to be wearing masks unless they are “actively” walking into a pool, swimming in a pool, or are exiting a pool and at all times inside gyms unless “actively engaged in a high-intensity workout,” in which case they need to remain six feet apart from other people."

"Right now, our HHS teams are confirming the criteria that would designate a county in Nevada as a hotspot. Tomorrow, I will be releasing that criteria and the names of the counties that will be required to close bars tomorrow at 11:59pm, per this directive."

Yeah. I had planned on going back next weekend and also first weekend of august and im definitely axing next weekend. I spend a lot of time at the bar tops so this affects my trio. Hopefully the fact that they got serious about masks a week ago will lead to better numbers in a week and I’ll go on my trip at the beginning of august.

It’s not surprising though. Bars in Michigan shut down last week (as I was waiting outside one for it to open) and our numbers are better.

I have a trip in mid August and there’s 100 different things that could happen before so I’ll not canceling yet.

I absolutely get shutting down clubs or your local tavern. A casino bar where they can shut off every other machine and spot, seems to be a it much but what do I know.

If it stays as is I guess ok, we can bring the golf clubs and do that instead of pool, maybe just go to the pool for a bit, being in the actual pool. There is zero point to laying beside the pool wearing a mask in 108 degrees. The bar tops closing is a total killer. I wonder if there will even be drink service at floor machines etc.

I could see these restrictions expanding rapidly and making trips pointless. Also I could see Vegas being totally empty, making is much safer, and still pretty fun. I don't mind wearing the mask indoors at all.

I know. That's my conundrum. I am hoping there's some reports from Saturday indicating how it's progressing. If its extremely quiet I'm frankly fine and dandy with that.

I’m curious how far they can go. The state has to be hurting for cash and does Nevada have any significant revenue streams besides gambling/hospitality industries?

What was super interesting about just being there last week ( Cosmo) was... mask required 100% of the time on gaming floor, however if you were at the chandy bar it became optional. Needless to say very few had masks on in that area. So maybe the initial order had too loose of restrictions. Just like the pools... if you were at the pool, again Masks were optional. Perhaps instead of shutting them down they could have required masks ( bars) though very difficult when so many drinking. Vegas is definitely different and changing by the day. I’m happy we went ( had a great time) but will probs wait awhile for a return trip.

I'm still confused about the approach of either 100% on or 100% off when it comes to things like bars. Can't a bar, instead of closing completely, be able to operate by appointment (and with masks unless actively drinking) in order to control capacity? So in the case of casino bars with bartops, setup appointments for VP players, make a section for non-playing people and limit the occupancy of their access to the bar and space out tables far away from the bar to enjoy the drink. Have gated entry to the bar area and limit how many people are in there.

We here in Ontario are almost down to double-digits in daily new cases (25k+ tests, 14 million population), and we're basically into full mandatory masks everywhere to try to keep it that way while still opening up more and more. I'm amazed watching my wife's American sister-in-law post pictures of their kids in Ohio at an outdoor swim meet with dozens of kids and hundreds of adults in the pool area - not one wearing a mask. It's a 4 hour drive to their place from our place and it seems like one of us in living on a completely different planet.
