I have a trip planned for mid August. Maybe there will be restrictions from my work or state that will make my decision for me, but I’m still hoping I can go. My family is seriously hoping I can go.

Did Whiskey Down have the acrylic dividers as well? Having half the units off there would suck. Of course, that's still better than now currently. Lol

    I wouldn't doubt it.

We live outside of Chicago, but M commutes to Chicago for work. Since she is deemed an essential worker and must be physically present in Chicago to perform her job, she is not required to undergo a 2-week quarantine (unless Pritzker would expand this quarantine order statewide). Her co-workers have interpreted the order wrong.

I figured I would do a review of the Envomask N95 system that @SIlverGolfer mentioned a while back. I got mine a couple of days ago. Took 7 business days to receive (including the day I ordered and the day it arrived), so that was actually a little faster than they promised.

It was pretty easy to put together although the diagrams in the instructions were a little unclear. It was easy enough to figure out.

    The strap runs like this:

If you think of the strap as a U shape, the bottom of the U sits behind your neck and has a little tensioner device on it to adjust the tightness once you have it on. The legs of the U pass through fittings on both sides of the mask, and then back towards your face; the ends have flat plastic hooks that you slide over your ears.

    upload_2020-7-17_10-11-10.png

The fit was OK. The part of the frame that actually sits against your face has fairly thick gel layer that makes that part comfortable enough and ensures a good seal.

There were two other comfort factors:

It definitely gets warm inside the mask. My original plan was to see if I could wear it for 3 hours without taking it off, but after 45 mins I was looking at the clock. Part of that was because of the 2nd factor, which is the hooks that fit over your ear.

If you wear glasses, the bows for your glasses have to sit right next to your head, and the ear hooks have to go outside them. That's the only way it will work with glasses; if you try to put the ear hooks inside the eyeglass bows, your glasses don't sit right and will fall off.

The problem with that, is that the strap is elastic fabric, so that the seal can be maintained. So there's a little pulling force being applied to the ear hooks. Since you have the ear hooks outside the eyeglass bows instead of flush against your head, the pulling is being done against a weaker part of your ear away from your head, and it's less comfortable than if you didn't wear glasses. I think that can be mitigated by loosening the tension a bit, but I don't want to lose the seal either.

Overall though, thumbs up. It definitely would make me more comfortable about taking a long flight, but I'd plan to take it off for a minute or two every hour or so to drink some water and just air our the face, lol.

I ended up cancelling my August trip and I don't even plan to book my normal January one. JetBlue is about to open up their schedule through the end of April, so I'll probably book something for then, but I'm not that optimistic. The mentality is just not there to prevent this thing from just dragging on and on indefinitely.

Ironically it was the flight I originally was more worried about, but that problem got solved, and it turned out to be the visitors that made me ax the trip. Not all, but too high a proportion.

Air FU Canada just cancelled our August flights I’m currently trying to re-book with Delta with a stop over each way as my options with Air Canada all required 2+ stop overs.

Sorry to hear. Westjet cancelled my Vancouver direct flights, one of the reasons I cancelled my August trip.

News from yesterday was that Air Canada was seeking a European exemption to the quarantine rules to reciprocate their policy. Fingers crossed.

In other news, if you get a test before leaving the US then flying into Toronto to play baseball is perfectly fine.

I was able to rebook flights however our new itinerary has an overnight layover each way. I booked a room at the Courtyard Marriott at LAX for Saturday night. We don’t land until 8:30 and have an early flight the next morning so I figure we probably won’t venture too far. We have an overnight in San Francisco on the way home and a little more time as we land at 5:30. Does anyone have any hotel suggestions in San Francisco? Let’s hope there are no more flight changes

I have stayed here pre-Covid and thought it was nice since you could watch the planes come in and you could walk along the water.

Rich businesses play by a different set of rules of course.

If someone gets a negative test after X days, mandatory quarantine should end. I just dunno what X is. I do feel like 14 days is too long if a test comes negative. Could also argue multiple negative tests before returning.

Speaking of tests, M's dad got one for no real justification this week. Negative.

I'm leaning towards cancelling my Aug 11th trip. Too many gamblers from CA and AZ in Vegas.

I'm with you chuck. Visitors are the problem for me as well. That and having to make a stop both directions.

I planned on playing in the middle of the night and just hanging in the room the rest of the time, which would really be OK with me for a trip or two.

But in the end, I can just drive to Springfield or AC, save the airfare, and have the same experience. I have some friends from CA who I usually meet for a few days and they bailed, that was kind of the last straw.

And as you noted, Vegas is mostly drawing visitors with a higher proportion of DGAF attitude. And a lot of full-on nutjobs are coming out of the woodwork. Don't need it.

That's what I've been advocating for a few weeks now. The quarantine act was put in place in Canada at a time when there weren't enough tests so the only practical thing to do was to force people to isolate for 14 days and hope for the best. I'm pretty sure everywhere in North America there's enough testing capacity now to test all travelers. It would actually be better anyway to force anyone coming in from another area (not just into Canada, literally anywhere) to test negative before getting on an airplane (ideally at the airport) for any flight.

The cost of the test should be paid for by the traveler (not the taxpayer) and it would need to be a quick result test (ideally antigen) at the airport. If you are nervous about testing positive at the airport and then being denied entry to the flight, then you probably shouldn't have been getting on the airplane in the first place. While doctors won't "guarantee" immunity after infection, there's been enough of a sample size at this point where it's 99.9999% likely that re-infection can't happen so put an immunity passport in place to avoid unnecessary testing.

The nice side-benefit of that for airplanes would be that since you've made it nearly impossible for any covid-positive people to get on the plane you *could* drop the masks and fill the plane.

Our local was allowed to open yesterday but they still haven't done so because they "aren't ready" to safely do so. It's been 15 weeks. How much more preparation time do you need? Sheesh!

I've posted that I was planning on heading down to FL to see my sick BIL but my sister doesn't think I should risk being in FL unless his conditions worsen.

And there's no way I'm setting foot inside of Tampa Hard Rock. If I won't do that I shouldn't consider Vegas either.
