    Good Morning Fellow Degens!

Less than two weeks until we head off to LV again to celebrate the birth of yours truly, but I digress.

Today I want to start a conversation about wine, specifically your favorite. My wife and I started what has become somewhat of a tradition around this time of year where instead of buying a bottle of wine or two of “cheap” table swill, we start to stock up on nice bottles for the various holidays and parties for the upcoming season.

We generally stick to the 12-25 dollar range for everyday/weekend enjoyment but we tend to splurge and try new things around the holidays. This year we found out we have a connection through a family friend who is a wine distributor’s rep which meant we could request a case (6) of pretty much whatever they carried at cost. (Obviously not the rare or super crazy stuff). I don’t know that this will be an every year thing, but grateful for the hookup.

For our first “stock up” purchase this year we went with our absolute favorite. Nickel and Nickel Cab has been our go to special occasion wine for a number of years and at this point just has a special place in our heart. Yesterday we picked up our score from our friend and got 2 of each of the 2014 (this years vintage release) cabs.

So what’s your favorite? We always love to try new bottles (both cheap and not so cheap) and would love to get a conversation started so we can all try something new that comes recommended by a fellow VF!

    Cheers.

My splurge wines are Regusci but it’s generally not available retail. I joined the wine club and have them shipped to me. Love all their varietals, especially the cabs.

Retail, I really like The Prisoner Cab, and recently tried a red called Machete that was delicious.

Everyday stuff I enjoy Fog Mountain (about $12). I love trying new wines, I’ll definitely try the Nickle and Nickle!

This is another one of my “everyday” favorites. It’s about 12 or 14 a bottle and tastes like it should cost about twice that.

So glad you started this thread, degenerate wino here!!
Our favorite “hard to gets” are Realm, Scarecrow, Araujo, Macauley, and just about anything from Beckstoffers heritage sites!
Stewart and Turnbull are great wines that are readily available for shipment.
If I’m grabbing something at the grocery it’s usually Duckhorn, Prisoner, or any single vineyard I can find! The Malbecs from Argentina are really growing on us now days because they are cheaper and readily available.
    Could go on and on!
Had these fabulous bottles this weekend while out in Dallas! We are suckers for a fine bottle and nice dinners! Cheers!

I love seeing this thread revived!

My newest favorite for an "everyday" wine is Vennstone, by Joseph Wagner. He is the guy who created Meomi back when it was good - since selling it to a mass producer I don't care for it as much. Now he has created Vennstone which is a great Pinot Noir in the $20 price range.

95% of CA big name “showy” wines are mass produced and taste the same vintage after vintage. Don’t pay more than $50+ for most CA wines. Go to Bordeaux region for $20 wines that are superior.

I need to get back into drinking more wine. Wife doesn't drink it, so I rarely do at home, but lockdown has seen me at home for a year now :(

I really like this white Burgundy, when the betting is going well I will treat myself to a bottle in the basket, can usually get something decent for < $50. In restaurants, particularly stateside, the markup can be horrific so I usually swerve it. A decent % of my US meals are in steakhouses so I am more leaning towards reds then. And I have very little idea on Napa etc, so I usually play safe and get an inexpensive malbec which always seems to pair well with steak (at least, to me.)

Our host Or concierge sent this up our last stay. We finally got a chance to have it. Very pleasant wine and I would buy it myself. AC4935A6-980C-4EC3-8E15-98EF16F49CDD.jpeg
