Why do the past multipliers dictate strategy? Don't they just multiply the EV proportionally?

Good day at Horseshoe Lake Charles yesterday.

 

Ultimate X awards multipliers for the NEXT hand based on your hand result AFTER the draw. So strategy adjusts the potential for multipliers.

When the current multiplier level is very high, then EV for the current hand is more important. When it's low, increased incentive for future multipliers might change your strategy for "close plays".

In this particular case, holding a dealt straight flush would award a 12X on all lines next hand. Holding just 222 typically will result in a lower average multiplier for the next hand. Quads give 7X, quints 3X, 4 Deuces give 2X.

The strategy of this game is nearly impossible for a human to learn perfectly. Every multiplier state might have strategy changes.

Fortunately many changes are minor and playing standard VP strategy typically only costs about 0.6% return.

Easter weekend 2023, L'auberge Lake Charles, LA.

The weekend was mostly a money-suck, before and after my HOT run on this 1 machine! Saved the trip, lol:

The first Royal for 2k happened about 20 minutes after I sat down, switching between games + denoms... after the handpay, I stayed at 25cent Triple-Double. Was dealt the 4s w/kicker approx 20 minutes later, and then hit the second Royal about 30 minutes after that!
Crazy wild to hit 2 Royals on the same machine within about an hour, but the same suit?!? Sooo amazing!!

Wow great pull on the Royal! And the quint!

 

It's weird because I never seem to complete a royal on four cards -- it's always something random like 2 or 3. (I will happily take them all, obvi!)
