I didn't feel willie was starting anything like a pissing match nir were you. You both have unbelievable willpower and each of you may be obtaining your individual gials in different ways. That's ok. This thread that i started is for you to help others and yourself. Take what info is put out there and then use it in your own way of thinking. I happen to agree 200 cals or whatever is an excessive way to live. Not as an morbid obese person but as a normal weight person like willie now is. Willie, YOU ARE NOW "NORMAL", NO NEED TO LOSE. You arent morbidly obese anymire. i think you are now maintaining at 209 which is too skinny as far as I'm concerned but if that is where you want to be then great! But we all care and don't want you to wither away. Both of you keep up the great work. Gmille, please put put all the info you can/want. Others here need it. Peace

Cool. Great accomplishment. It really is about change of life. It's about eating to live not living to eat.

Not all the time. However yesterday we had our Thanksgiving potluck at work. I brought in the dish that I always bring in, which I shouldn't be eating, but had a small piece anyway. I stuck to mostly meats and cheeses, until the end of the day. Someone brought in pecan pie, and I ended up eating a piece. It is a favorite of mine and one of the 'sweets' that my wife doesn't make. However I haven't touched the donuts that people bring in. I also haven't been touching the cookies that my wife loves to make. She made a batch last night. Every year she make a lot of spritz cookies. So many that she usually breaks one of the top rated plastic cookie guns. They are around $20. So when she was looking for a new one this year I looked online and got her the top of the line aluminum gun. It was about $60, so if it lasts three years I break even.

Part of my mentality is that I am aware of the calories in things, and when the temptation starts to gain momentum in my brain, I am able to stop and think, is that donut really worth an hour on the treadmill? The other thing that I notice is that on the days where I do lose control, which has happened a couple of times, I gain quickly due to the water weight. This is easy to shed with a couple of days of diligence. As long as the trend continues to be headed down I am fine with even slow progress.

I agree with you, Packer. It pains me to hear about anyone who may be slowly wasting away, with no end in sight. I don't want to be complicit in urging anyone to continue down a path that will only lead somewhere very bad - like to a hospitalization for organ failure and malnutrition or, God forbid, death.

Learning maintenance is something wayyyyy harder than losing weight. Anyone can lose, through healthy or unhealthy means, but who can truly maintain? I know maintenance has been my downfall all my life. I look at Derek and see someone who has done everything right and have alot of respect for that as opposed to losing weight if you're already wayyy underweight.

Let's start posting about maintenance strategies!

We all "strive" to do the best...... We all have differing meanings as to what is best in our own atmospheres....

for me, I was heavy for decades.. My weight caused me some health concerns...4 years ago, as a fat guy, I developed kidney concerns.... Almost 2 years ago I started researching weight loss and have accumulated 100's of research hours.....

with my research I got down to my present weight.. 210 to 220 lbs.... I've maintained this weight now for over a year.... I did gain weight earlier this year due to IV of saline solution when I was hospitalized... The water weight quickly came back off... The reason that I was hospitalized is because I was in Vegas and ate a ton of shitty bad greasy foods and drank tons of vodka and cranberry juice... My kidneys went into Renal shock... I was stupid and over-did it badly.... I was stupid and hopefully have learned my lesson... haven't had alcohol since....

When I got down to 210 lbs. I thought about going lower..... that's because I was so fat for so long.... less than 210 is not wise for me... Although most weight related sites list a good-healthy weight for me at between 187 and 254.. a wide margin....

I'm very happy at 210-215.... I eat 4 to 5 times a day... I have 2 smoothies everyday with tons of fruits and veggies... I have bagels and cream cheese 4 to 5 days a week now and just got an air-pop Cuisinart air pop popcorn maker.. I make a lot of popcorn with no salt seasoning.. tastes great.... I eat rice and spaghetti and sauce.. I get a special low sodium sauce and I can't tell the difference...

I bought a 4 lb. bag of Jolly Rancher candy... I have 3 or 4 of them a day when I feel like cheating instead of pizza or burgers....

maintaining is a key,,,,,, but we have to lose before we can maintain.... for me, losing is the harder part.... I know I can survive now that the weight is gone.... After losing, we also mature more so we have more control with bad temptations...

none of losing is easy.... But, I've never felt better.... adding the baking soda and probiotics made a world of difference... I'm now in an alkaline body and that takes care of so much for me...
I appreciate the concern, but I'm fine.. i'm not a dummy... i'm like a new kid in the candy store and I finally learned the tools to lose weight.. for me the tools worked great... no it is not easy, especially in the beginning... yes, sometimes I went a little too strong.. that is my sports background....

I'm maintaining very well... Being alkaline, to me, is the answer.. It keeps us at the weight our Creator had for each of us,,, uniquely... I let my body keep me maintained... Today I had 2 veggie and fruit smoothies with plant protein powder.... 2 bagels with onion and chive cream cheese,,, a bowl of cottage cheese,, a bowl of popcorn,,,,,, a bowl of rice and veggies with sauce.... And I was 207.2 lbs. 3 days ago...

a MAJOR tool for losing and maintaining is an alkaline body.... Peace to everyone.... I guarantee that I don't ever wish to go to the hospital... Hospitals suck,,,, they have a lot of sick and dying people there.....

Anyone can criticize,,,,,,, why don't we just rise above criticism and support one another In a genuine manner...

As someone who has lost 30+ lbs multiple times (probably at least 4 times)....Maintenance is soooo hard. It has always been my downfall, but then again, good things are never easy.

Many people, including me, have failed in the "maintaining Department" in the past because we treat weight loss as an objective to be attained and when we get to a near desired weight we then feel that we've accomplished our goal, our objective......

WE HAVE NOT ACCOMPLISHED OUR GOAL...!!!!!! maybe only the first part of our goal has been achieved...... We need to keep having a healthy food mindset 96% of the time.
Losing weight is step one in the NEW lifelong challenge.... We MUST realize that in order to maintain this new weight that we have to re-invent ourselves psychologically and emotionally to accept our new bodies and accept that the crappy ways of eating can no longer exist in our lives...

We must realize that the heavy fat meats-cheeses-bad snacks- etc. are what got us fat in the first place.. to maintain, I use the 96% rule... I'm going to eat what helped me lose the weight 96% of the time, but maybe a little more food, healthy food... More fruits, veggies, and 4% of the time I can indulge in some of the bad foods knowing that it will be temporary...

The scale is a good marker and tool.... When we cheat with sugary-salty foods, we then retain more fluids and our tissues swell up and we add weight.... We need as Derek has demonstrated, to have parameters set for our weight,,, not just one single #..... Derek has 175 to 180 as his parameter.... My parameter is 209 to 217......

So, on Vegas trips, holidays, etc.... we can ""CHEAT"" knowing we'll gain 3 to 5 lbs. and then we'll lose it in the following week to 10 days....

We've all heard it and it's true... It is a lifestyle change with eating to maintain.. There is no other way....
