Later this week Mr & Mrs 2BOBCATS are making our first trip of 2019 to our favorite place. And this time we're bringing a female friend to tag along. She's on a budget but hopefully we'll be able to help show her a good time - it's her 2nd Vegas trip but the first was very short.

2018 was a bit of a roller coaster Vegas-wise. We were in there in February and my wife's mom passed the day we got back; on the first day of our July trip our dog passed; we went again in September for our anniversary, and I went a fourth time in December for a work trip. All 4 trips last year were brutal gambling-wise and 3 of them involved walks of shame. But then again, we were together in Vegas thrice (plus once solo for me) and most crappy days in Vegas beat good days back home. Plus we jammed in lots of activities, had great meals, and generally enjoyed the temporary suspension from real life.

I wanted to start 2019 in Vegas a little earlier than this but my wife wanted lots of pool time and therefore wanted to go in May (which worked better for the third wheel too, who also wants pool time). All good theories, but here;s the High / Low forecast at the moment: Home, by the way, is in Ontario, Canada (about 1000 miles North).

    Thursday
    Home - 64 / 46, Vegas - 73 / 59

    Friday
    Home - 66 / 55, Vegas - 77 / 61

    Saturday
    Home - 64 / 48, Vegas - 82 / 61

    Sunday
    Home - 59/ 50, Vegas - 77 / 59

    Monday
    Home - 64 / 54, Vegas - 79 / 63

    Tuesday
    Home - 68 / 52, Vegas - 82 / 64

Home is just slightly below seasonal but Vegas is WAY below seasonal. Fingers crossed that this changes, but the forecast has continually gotten worse each day for the past week or so, and we're only 3 days out so it's not looking good. We were hoping for 90s which would be normal.

I'm almost getting caught up on a whole bunch of TRs from others from the past couple months, and once I've finished all them I'll fill in the rest of the plan...

    3 more sleeps!

It wasn’t as warm as I hoped during my trip either but in Vegas it’s all blue sky instead of gray and cloudy like home. The pool time will be just fine.

Nice that you’re bringing a friend. Safe travels!

    Thanks!

I really hope so, for the ladies' sake. I'm less of a pool person anyway so if it's not hot enough I'll make due :) Just read in another TR that the pushpops are no more at the Cosmo pools though - that's a bummer since that was on the itinerary.

    Thanks!

It's a bit of a mixed bag for the trip. I think our trips overlap a bit but Thursday night we don't land until 9pm and we'll be on Eastern time. Wife and I are at Cosmo for the first 4 nights. Friend is at Bellagio for the first night. Girls go to the spa on Friday morning so not sure how late we'll all be up Thursday night.

EDIT: Looks like you're on an early Friday flight. Our plan for Thursday night is to hang around Cosmo but with check-ins happening at two different hotels it'll be tricky to know exactly where & when we'll be that night.

I'm all caught up on everyone else's TRs except for one - @Texas Steph birthday TR from last week I've been saving until now. I'm assuming it's epic with over 600 posts on it. Commencing reading.... now.

Good luck this time! I hope it’s all on the upswing! I agree with @claired67 the temps are plenty warm for Vegas pools. It’s a different kind of sun or something out in the desert.

Not a whole lot of overlap with other VF'ers while we're there, but per the May 2019 Roll Call looks like @CourtH (Cosmo 17-25), @Lovegas95 (Cosmo / Park MGM 21-Jun 1), @Kitty Winsmore (Park MGM 26-30), and @jenblase (Cosmo 25-29) might have some bump-ins?

    Gotcha!

I think we have to be up at 4 or 4:30 on Friday so it might not work out but I thought I would check. You never know!

    Good luck!

Don't know about "epic" but yep, it sure is long!

I hope your trip is fabulous and NO walks of shame! I'm looking forward to lots of posts and pics while you're at Cosmo (can never get enough!) and I'm sure y'all will enjoy the pools no matter what the temps!

Thanks @Texas Steph ! Sorry for sending those hundreds of likes over the past hour while going through it from start to finish :) We'll try to avoid the walk of shame but when we're there it's so easy to go YOLO.

All caught up now - sometime in the next couple days I'll add the basic itinerary, maybe some bankroll porn, shoe porn? (of the girls shoes, I have no fashion sense myself), and maybe some Canuckistani porn too.

Also - we "usually" (meaning the past few years) go out in September for our anniversary and at the moment it's looking 50/50. So I may have made the following suggestion: bring a full year's bankroll for this trip and if there's at least half left over then September remains an option. Hmmm...

I know if I were to post the ultra-detailed itinerary which has the "to-the-minute" breakdown of everything the three of us have planned then maybe @VegasChic would be cool with that but most people would call me a lunatic. So here's a more basic breakdown...

For simplicity I'll refer to our friend as M going forward, and my wife as E.

For the flight we're trying out Swoop, a relatively new low-cost Canadian carrier owned by Westjet. We normally fly Spirit out of Detroit since the airport is about the same distance as Toronto but with M originating from Toronto we investigated options to be on the same flight. Swoop out of Hamilton direct to Las Vegas round-trip only flies 3-4 days a week so options were limited. It also makes it an international flight, however, customs in Hamilton are more like a Caribbean island than the nightmare that is YYZ in Toronto. Flights were $288 each (CDN) including bags and taxes, although we didn't do advance seat selection so we'll see how that goes. E and I have never sat apart for a Vegas flight.

Thursday the 23rd wheels up at 7:30pm (EST) and arrive in Vegas at 9:00pm. Return flight is the red-eye leaving Tuesday at 10:15pm and arriving at 5:30am (EST).

My wife and I are using my 4-night Cosmo offer for Thursday through Sunday night, and then we move to Harrah's for Monday night on a 2-night offer from CET. We told M we'd help with her accommodations, so she is staying at Bellagio Thursday night (MyVegas reward from my wife, still have to pay resort fee), then at Cosmo Friday & Saturday nights (using my Gold companion nights), then at Wynn starting Sunday using my wife's 3-night offer over there.

Cosmo and Wynn on Sunday / Sunday night makes for some interesting logistical challenges!

    Shows & Non-Gambling Entertainment:
    • Friday Morning - the ladies are booked at the Cosmo spa. M is doing the Sahra Hammam and E is doing a more traditional massage.
    • Friday Night - Opium at Cosmo, 2 comped tix so we're 3 for the price of 1
    • Saturday - Free daily tournament at Luxor (maybe)
    • Saturday Night - Jimmey Kimmel Comedy Club
    • Sunday - downtown day, Cannibition museum (likely)
    • Monday - Daily slot tournament at Harrah's (maybe, and maybe Tuesday too)
    • Monday - Secret Garden (maybe)
    • Tuesday - Atomic Museum, Pinball Museum
Also, pool time scheduled at Cosmo on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, plus more pool time scheduled at Wynn on Monday.

And, Bellagio fountains, Eiffel Tower show, Mirage volcano, if we happen to be in those areas at the right time.

    Food:
    • Holstein's for Bam-boozled milkshakes (Thursday Night)
    • Distict / Eggslut / Henry for breakfast, Overlook Grill / Secret Pizza for lunch, Wicked Spoon for dinner (because of the 2-for-1)
    • The Creperie at Paris for breakfast
    • Battista's Hole in the Wall for dinner
    • E and I always go to Ghiradelli's once, M will get a cupcake from an ATM
    • Wynn Buffet twice (2 free entries per day with E's Wynn offer)
    • Somewhere downtown for dinner, possibly Golden Nugget buffet (but man there's lots of buffets on this list!)
    • Somewhere CET for dinner Tuesday since my Harrah's offer has a $100 dining credit somewhere
E and I will be doing a toast to her mom at Nine Fine Irishmen at some point, and we'll buy M a drink there too.

None of us are huge drinkers, but we do plan to drink. I haven't been nearly-falling-down drunk since college so I'm overdue for that.

    Gambol:
    • Cosmo slots (maybe some HL), and hope to try some VP at Chandelier (M prefers to micro-roll and stretch that into drinks)
    • Wynn - to thank them for the offer and maybe plant seeds for a future follow-up offer
    • CET - to cover the room there too, which will be some slots at Cromwell / Linq / Harrahs (for the daily tournament) and bunch of BJ at Carnival Court at least one of the nights
    • Park MGM - I have a $25 BJ Match Play redeemed from MyVegas. Yes, I will be "that guy" who walks to the table, plays one hand with the match play, and walks. Apologies in advance to anyone else sitting at that table and I will tell them it's coming so there's no fights. I plan to do that while the girls are at the spa Friday morning so chances are the tables won't' be too busy then.
I think my wife and I are on-board with the notion of taking at least part of what would have been September's bankroll on this trip since she is leaning towards not going this year. Hopefully we can bring most of our whole bankroll back and leave September for a final decision later on, but we are definitely going to have a whole lot more fun than normal on this trip with that extra bankroll to play with.

Aggressive plans! But you’ve given yourself wiggle room too! They all sound great and you have some really good offers to take advantage of. Enjoy Battista’s and Gordy’s accordion playing. Fun!

Are you calling me a lunatic?:tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy: I LOVE IT, haha. Admit I may go a little TMI at times on the trip reports.....

I sure hope you got all the bad luck out of the way last year, pretty sure posting some shoe porn early in a TR helps turn the luck around too!
Great line up of events, and funny you mention that Creperie at Paris- we were just chatting about it and planned to take an UBER there next trip just for those! Love that place! Really looking forward to hearing about Swoop too- haven't heard any reviews yet!

Good luck and have fun- I'm crossing my fingers for a winning trip so the decision to go back again in September is an easy one! Enjoy!

The lunacy is all on my end. Here's a sample of the detailed breakdown showing (to the minute) what a feasible operational plan could look like:

    detailed_itinerary_sample.png

Note to all the "go with the flow" people out there - I put this together to make sure that there's enough time for travel / prep between the things that are the must-do items on the list. However, it's all subject to change at any time :)

Got my email from Swoop last night that we're less than 72 hours away. Yeah baby!

Today is Tuesday, flight on Thursday. E and I will be picking up M en route to the airport, and we'll begin that drive Thursday afternoon. Yesterday was a holiday in Canada. So basically just today and tomorrow for work this week, maybe M will put in a little time Thursday morning.

Except that for me, Tuesdays are my men's golf league which I normally leave a bit early for and because I'm missing next Tuesday I'll be doing an extra 9-hole round today and leaving work a little earlier yet.

On top of that, we've arranged for E's dad and his new girlfriend to come up from Ohio and house sit / watch our 8 & 10 yr old boys. Normally they take a bus to the sitters after school, but they'll just walk home while we're gone so tomorrow we'll test all that out and work out the bugs - which means leaving work early tomorrow for me again.

I've basically got 10 hours of time in the office the entire week going into the trip. Methinks that might fly by a bit more than normal :)
