Yeah, they didn't communicate it well, either to patrons or staff. One guy I know was out of town because he thought there was no end in sight at his venue, and had to fly back on short notice.

However, I did just do a spin through the website, and a couple of the places that I personally saw open on NYE, are now back to being listed as "closed" again. I completely understand why it's happening, and it's the most ridiculous first-world of first-world problems during a deadly global pandemic, but if I was traveling here I'd find it slightly annoying that it's impossible to make plans more than a couple days in advance.

Yeah and I probaby should have clarified that it was only for the New Year's period. Poorly communicated at the last minute but standard for the last year. I hope people got eat and people got to work if they wanted.

I have the same thoughts; they really screwed up on restaurants, bars, and the reservation system. It was hard to book online; stuff sold out almost immediately.... As a solo traveler, I had a difficult time making reservations on the phone because they wanted to book groups with a minimum of 2 people... To further complicate things, apparently the phone representatives had one system for booking restaurant reservations on Dec 31 and Jan 1 and another system for the days before and after.

I heard from a bartender that the hotels "suddenly" realized a whole bunch of people were showing up for New Years, and there wasn't going to be enough restaurants to feed everyone. If you think about it, restaurants can only be at 25% occupancy, so it's a very easy math calculation to find out how many people a given restaurant can serve. For numbers sake, you clearly can't have 4000 people in your hotel and restaurant capacity for 2000 people. That would have been a disaster. So literally restaurants which were closed since March had to open on a moments notice, but I think they're basically closed again.

I also found it odd that if you stayed at one Mlife property it was difficult/impossible to book a restaurant at another Mlife property... So could everyone only eat at the hotel in which they booked? :\ Very weird management all around.

On another note, I am so bummed that Aria Cafe is closed permanently. Loved doing brunch there - great service and menu.

NYE itself is always like this. You really can only get into the hotel you're at. This has been the case for a while, they were just a little stricter this year (see also, Cosmo only letting you in if you have a room key). This was just a weird year overall.

I honestly think that Salt & Ivy is a decent replacement. Aria Cafe changed their menu to remove a lot of the things I liked, and also slowly cut back on their hours to the point where they were only open a few hours a day, pretty much just breakfast.

I just hate the sevenrooms system. It's not directly linked with the Mlife system, and it doesn't let you create an independent account, and instead requires you to either do a "guest" reservation or use Facebook or Google, neither of which I'll do (I do have accounts on both, but I like to keep them firewalled).

Not formally, but they have "breakfast nachos":

Aria Cafe changed their huevos rancheros recipe a couple years ago to basically be the same thing. In particular, they switched out the soft tortillas with some sort of crispy chip-like tortilla.

They always had chilaquiles. Was never impressed. The rancheros were where it was at!

The crispy chicken sandwich with hot sauce was a lifesaver on those nights when I'd get in at 2-3am after flight delays.
