Went to my regular checkup with my endo the other day. Another increase in my thyroid medication, and testing again in 6 weeks to verify the dosage is correct, and to test for antibodies for Hashimoto's thyroiditis. In a nutshell, it may be that my body is attacking my thyroid gland. Not an uncommon disorder, just much less common in men. Easily manageable with medication.

I had always figured that my weight was due to a glandular issue, I just thought that it was my salivary glands :).

Just checking in on the new thread. Earlier this month we were in LV for 3 nights followed by 4 nights at our local, yeah, I know...... my poor liver. I did my last weight in prior to leaving, on Dec. 4th. We had both our birthdays in there and 7 nights at the casino and believe me.....I was really scared to step on that scale....but I did this morning. And I am very happy to say that my weight today is the same as it was pre-Vegas. Yay, I consider that a WIN. Beer & buffets... Didn't get the chance to hit the gym at all, OK, let me rephrase...I was planning on hitting the gym at the local, but it just didn't happen. Need to get myself back on track, but at least I'm not starting out digging out of the hole that I could have been in.

Stay diligent everyone. Very hard to do at this time of the year with the biggest food holiday out there and all those holiday goodies. Glad I don't bake or I'd be in trouble for sure.

Happy 2018 to all. I am hopeful to continue on my quest for healthy eating and lifestyle change. I kept pretty close to my eating goals last year I wish everyone the same in their quest for good eating and health. Dilly Dilly!

Happy 2018 everyone. 2017 was not the best year as far as Vegas and weight was concerned. Vegas because I only went twice and weight because I ended up gaining 8% from the previous year. You can read reports yourself but the auto industry as a whole was kinda slow which directly hits me. So no extra spending (didn't save the 5 years of winnings) throw away money for Vegas as I'm on a downward (gaming) spiral from the end of 2016. I think from not being as busy I feel into the "eat shitty" syndrome and from time to time are things like pizza, sweets, pasta, bread and so on so gained weight. Hardly any exercise too. Can get myself to down the acv anymore, no more ninja drinks and no more psyllium husk. No more nothing. Only think religiously I do is take the vitamins, Coq, alpha, fish oil and niacin. Don't think it does me any good what so ever but I continue it.
The good is, im not depressed at least I don't think I am lol, everything else in my life is great and I have no complaints. Little boy is great. I'm blessed and feel wayyy younger than my chronological age. Hope we all live a productive life til 90 and beyond.
Cheers to the new year and keep up the good fight!

    HNY!

Ps new years itself was fun but had the flu and that sucked. Nothing like a flu diet. Lost 10 lbs lol. [IMG]

Happy New Year everyone. I will admit, it's tough getting back on track after the holiday. Finally made it back to the gym tonight. Had a mishap with the knee, which somewhat limited my gym time. Finally started back with the protein shakes for breakfast. Weighed at the gym tonight, fully clothed, shoes on and was up 3-4 lbs from earlier in December. Will see what the scale says in the morning to get a more clear picture of where I'm at.

So, my immediate goal is to lose those extra pounds along with 10 more before we go on our cruise. Going to the Daytona 500 then getting on a ship the following day, so that gives me six weeks, which is doable....we'll see. Fingers crossed.

Back to the Grind on the new year I was up 10 pounds from when we left but now down almost 7 of them in 4 days.

Once get these off then back to maintain which should be easy due to no holidays or anything to splurge on food wise for about a month where we go on vacation to Arizona. Just gonna eat smart down there and wont have a problem looking forward to real south west cooking

I have been on the rollercoaster for the last month or so. Up and down and up and down. First the holidays and now dealing with stuff for the family that I have no control over, but still occupies my brain. My main goal is to keep it in the range that is still manageable until the end of February. By then the current personal things will have resolved and there will be no excuses. Nothing bad, just stuff that is important to me.

I started last year at the end of February because I wanted to start when I didn't have other things that would be a distraction. The same stuff applies now as last year with additional one time issues. Sorry about being vague, just dont want to jinx it at this time.

Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness......... These along with inner peace, shared love, and contentment are the qualities most, if not all, seek......

To this goal, I have had the pleasure of meeting in cyberspace a guy who is youngish(38, and 6'1" and now 312 lbs down from 354 lbs........ He started just 4 short months ago and there is no stopping him now.... Some people, like me, would not be happy with only an 11 lb. per month weight loss,,,,, but after 4 months 42 lbs. is super excellent and now Henry needs no motivation from anyone else but himself....

I realize my strict methods can be dramatic and not for everyone.... So, I was referred to Henry, not real name, and we went liberal,,,,, very liberal....... His RMR was quite high allowing for the extra liberalism.....

We went for Henry to between 1600 and 1700 calories per day and walking 1/2 hour to 45 minutes most days for Henry. Carbs 100g or less per day and much less sugar and sodium. Lots of beans and oats too........ Henry was like I was and perhaps you too.... Henry got a ton of calories from soda, beer, chips, and greasy fried foods... Now Henry even has pizza on either Friday or Saturday night with his wife and kids. so he doesn't feel deprived......

Henry has a way to go, but he now has the will power and some tools to succeed..... Meat for Henry 4X a week and plant protein other days... He will now start to lose weight more slowly as his original RMR numbers have declined, ,but Henry will succeed... Hopefully 275-280 for Henry by summer......

With all the craziness and senseless violence we've been witnessing in this world, let us all be vigilant to show peace and compassion... We all fail at times, me too,
    but we gotta keep trying...

With Henry, I've learned with Henry that slower weight loss can be achieved and this can be just as rewarding..... Motivation comes from within.... Peace to all the children of this world.!!

@Willie glad to see you posting again. I always appreciated the info you brought to the thread. I might not always have agreed or followed your research but knew the great effort you put into it. Some of it works for me, some not. Thanks for your input.

Glad you are back @Willie and good to talk to you a couple weeks ago. How are you doing? Same? I hope better.

By the way, when you are in Vegas were you able to play at all? If so, did you win? I know you played a little sluts with dvan. Did you throw the dice? Did you play doey/don't or the dark side? Any 21?

Hey I stopped taking the acv because I just couldn't get it down anymore. I came across these pills? Any comments either way? Think it's the dance as taking the acv we were taking?
    Thanks!

Well....here goes. Part of my healing journey was being able to disclose and not feel guilty or uncomfortable.

In 2012, I had heart attack at 50 and found out I had C-PTSD. Although my lifestyle wasn’t poor my life/work balance was. I didn’t realize nor recognize that my ridiculous work ethic, Father Time and genetics would almost cost me my life.

As a former athlete, Cdn Forces Member and Correctional Officer I liked challenges in my life. In essence, the greater the challenge the greater the reward. I never really thought about risk, or how my behaviours would affect me nor my family. I had a sense of invincibility, and a...”not me” attitude. My desire to achieve success was measured in the amount of adrenaline, material wealth and story telling I could get. I certainly had the Peter Pan Syndrome in spades.

Upon reflection, as I got older I no longer did the checks/balances...I treated myself as a machine often ignoring the obvious signs that age brings. My focused nature was instilled from a middle Eastern European family. I only really knew one speed, unfortunately I did not recognize that Father Time was undefeated. On May 8th, 2012 while doing an overtime shift I felt that my body was letting me down. I went to the nursing station, where I was told to get to hospital. It was later determined that I had a complete blockage of my right artery to my heart.

During my recovery, the layers of invincibility started to melt. I was initially diagnosed with severe depression, then PTSD, and then Complex PTSD. Having to manage the heart and head issues took all the strength I had. During this time of recovery, I had a strong team that helped me immensely. The one tool that remains ever present is my sense of humility. I was very lucky to survive and I have many to thank. The nightmares have subsided, my health is very good, my family has supported me and I have a new rich life. This May I will celebrate my 6th anniversary of my heart attack.

The funny part of all of this is........the pace and anonymity of Las Vegas is the best medication. My doctors say that if visits to LV helps then do it! Who would have thought that LV is my prescription for life?!

The pill form of the ACV is a very good alternative to the pure liquid..... You'll absorb about 40% of a pill form compared to about 97% of the liquid form.... With the pills you can spread out your dosage over the day to keep the metabolism fire revved up more frequently... It wouldn't hurt for your son to have some ACV pills too as insurance against building placque now so when he's older he'll have no placque related problems...

Packer, it must be such a challenge being a parent today... How do you explain all this horrendous & senseless violence to a child or teenager or young adult?

    Thanks.
As far as what happened in fla.
That is a whole other thread..
But, I first gave him a huge hug and let him know I'm always there for him. (he's 10).. He hugged me back and said he knew that. Since he is only just turned 10 I didn't go into any details. I did want him to know he is perfectly safe in school and to never worry. He did ask what if a shooter came in there school which is really hard to hear come out of him. I told him that will never happen and to always listen to the teacher which he does anyway. I told him to always come to me and ask questions if he wanted to. Told him no question is off limits. If he felt weird about asking because of being embarrassed or might get into trouble to not worry about that as there will never be an immediate BAD reaction from me (or him mom) and he is always in a safe zone with those talks.
Then he asked me to teach him to dance better lol..

I always give him a kiss or hug or both when dropping him off at school or anywhere but lately those hugs and kisses have lasted a little longer if you know what I mean.

That is an honestly pure and heart-felt conversation that you had with your son.... It sounds like you and your son have the type of relationship where "you" will always be "DAD" but as your son ages into his 20's and 30's you will also evolve into bestest adult friends as well...
    .
    Packer that is just "PRICELESS".....

You can look in the mirror and truly, genuinely like what you see and the character that you "choose" to demonstrate to your son and the people you touch....
    Awesome Packer...

    So the journey begins again...

Last January, after reading this thread, my wife and I joined a gym. From 1/4 to the end of May, diet exercise and all the ACV I could drink took me from 274 pounds to 207. Went to Vegas and came home early June. My back injury flared up and could barely walk. Late June, back to Vegas walking with pain pills. Met Packer in Cosmopolitan.

Came home, could barely walk. Late August I had spine surgery and began rehab until the end of the year. Needless to say, exercise went out the window. When sore and uncomfortable, went back to eating like I used to and the pounds came back. I watched my weight blow through 215, 225, 235, and yesterday 245. The clothes I was so excited to buy on the way down, not feel like shit. In fact I had to buy bigger again after throwing the old ones away. In Louisiana food is what we DO!

Yesterday we said enough! Back to the gym this morning and back to the grocery for healthy food. The goal is to target 215, 30 pounds off. I was not comfortable at 207 pounds.

I like the information from this thread, and figured if I put it in writing I will more likely stick with it. I will hopefully post regular updates of progress. While I don't regret having the surgery, the doctor says full recovery time is 2 full years! I don't have that kind of time to watch all that weight come back.

On a side note, I am glad to see Willie posting again. When you got sick last year, we were thinking the worst!
