We just came back from staying at Encore on 6/12. They had Amazon Echo in our room, we used it and thought it was nice, but had second thought after we came back.

    Pro:
Very convenient to ask Alaxa to turn on/off the lights, open or close the drapes. Can ask her questions like the current temperature or the forecast

    Con:
Privacy issue, can the hotel and other guests heck the device to listen to your previous conversation? Are they recorded? Or can hotel monitor what you are doing by listening in?

Here is the link regarding the Amazon Echo potential privacy issue by consumeris: https://consumerist.com/2016/12/14/...r-wynn-las-vegas-hotel-room-unplug-that-echo/

What do you guys think? I think I will just use tablet that they provide in the room to control the lights and drapes and turn off the echo instead. We can turn it on when we need it and not make any private conversation while it is on.

There are definitely privacy issues with devices like that, but I wouldn't worry too much. There is zero chance the hotel can monitor you, that's for sure. And the device isn't saving data locally, so for another guest to get access would involve gaining access to the encrypted Amazon cloud directly, and if someone's sophisticated enough to do that, there are better targets than someone's Alexa history.

I've had a Google Home for a long time and love it, you get used to having that around very easily -- the most useful thing for me is kitchen timers ("Hey Google, set a timer for six minutes" is fantastic while cooking) and temperature questions. The privacy concerns are more what Amazon/Google are doing with the information, but that's a broader question.

Yeah! We have Google home at home too, I used it to find my cell phone a lot of time. The reason for concern is that I read one review on Yelp that a guest suspected the hotel management had listened in their conversation and ended up searching their room when they were out of the room. They were kicked out at the end. I don't know, maybe it was their behavior that caused Wynn to suspect them and ultimately kicked them out in the middle of the night.

Obviously in this day and age nothing can be ruled out, but I highly, highly doubt that hotel management would be listening in, or even could be able to -- these are companies with extensive privacy practices and policies, and while they get broken from time to time, there's no way a company like Amazon would give an operator carte blanche to listen in. And if the the hotel wanted to listen in on guest rooms, it wouldn't require expensive devices like an Amazon Echo.

I love my Amazon Echo at home. Got it at as a gift at one of the MBay high end tournaments couple 3? years back. HOWEVER, my son seems to have online access to it and when I'm cooking dinner on his way home from work, he'll turn off the kitchen lights. (just for fun). But, I do ask her lots of questions. I remember last year? was it? or 2 yrs ago, when watching one of the sports finals and commercials were running for the Echo and she would be answering them. I still haven't figured out how to change her name. (apparently you can)....But,,she's fun.(Like when I woke up in the morning I asked her, (as I didn't watch it) who won the Toronto Raptors game? She's spot on.
