Today I was at the local playing on a brand-new looking 5 Star machine, $1 TDB Dream Card. Somewhat degen, I know.

A deal came up 4C, 5C, 10H, 6H, DC. The machine gave me a 3C as my "Dream" Card. Pairing up the 4 has a much higher EV. Needless to say I changed the Dream Card to a 4, and bricked.

DC has been out for many years. You would think IGT would have all the bugs out by now

No one has forced IGT to fix the errors I'm guessing. :( They really should. I have experienced the "pair of 4s" glitch myself at Red Rock years ago. They gave me a pair of 10s at Bonus Poker instead.

@jenblase also sent me a picture of a hand that looked to be in error this weekend, but she hasn't yet responded if she manually changed the dream card or not. But it worked out for her...

On Deuces Wild, I've heard it will make a HUGE error if you get 222 + Royal Card. The Dream card supposedly gives you the Wild Royal vs. 4 Deuces.

Huh, I never realized you could change the Dream Card. I always assumed the machine picked the best odd / highest pay option.

There are tiny arrows next to the Dream Card that allow you to change what card you hold. I can't remember if they're on the top/bottom or the right/left side. IIRC they're on the top/bottom though because I remember trying to be very careful not to hit the draw button while I'm changing it. But my memory isn't that great.

A few minutes earlier on DDB DC, the familiar junk hand with a 4 came up with the DC. And, it paired a junk card instead of the 4. I already knew about that one though. The one in the OP is a new one to me.

The funny thing is that my old 5 Star machine at Majestic never made errors, and I'm sure I put in enough volume on it over the years to have seen it all.

AH! There are the arrows... up at the top. I was way off.

Same. I've played it pretty frequently, I had no idea!

So the old unit would give you a pair of 4s instead of 5s-Ts?? I thought that glitch was universal in Bonus, DB, DDB, TDB.

Weird. Now I wonder if they need to reinstall a patch that fixed the errors or something. Maybe you should talk to the slot floor director.

Is it guaranteed that the optimal card will be displayed by DC?

Because if not, I can't see them rushing to fix a sub-optimal play if it's not in their best interest and the player can easily change the DC to the optimal play if they choose.

When I first played Dreamcard, it never occurred to me to expect the machine to automatically display the best possible card. I thought part of the "fun" of the game was choosing the right card. I still prefer that in theory, but in practice I would never actually play since it would be way too slow...

I think DC should always start you with the 7 of Diamonds whether you need it or not. You should have to EARN your DreamHandz.

The help screen on videopoker.com hints that it should be.
