Would a new mask mandate make you cancel your next trip?

Almost certainly not in November unless he/she was part of a trial…

Masks certainly aren't perfect, and the vaccine is superior to them, but they do help reduce the amount of virus spread and the distance the virus can move. Although it's not too likely, sometimes you can catch it without eye protection as well, but even conservative me hasn't gone as far to wear eye protection around others.

My guess in your case is that you just really had shit luck with catching Covid. Hopefully, you recovered fully!

Cancelling my September trip the minute the mandate is extended to guests. Did masked Vegas last year and once is enough.

No, this trip was before the vaccines were available to anyone.

Had Covid, test positive for anti-bodies, took anti-body test 11 months later tested positive again for anti-bodies. Sorry I have no fear, I do fear everyone ruining their immune systems by masking up 24-7, just a thought. I remember a time when doctors said the best thing to do is let your kids play in the mud to build their immune systems up, now we should all be the boy in the bubble. Enter superbugs!

I disagree with this. I still have reasonable fear, as Covid has ravaged our world and MANY people have died, but the vaccines have proven to be effective, so that is comforting for me. But I am human, I still have some fear but I am pushing through it. I DO have a problem with having to wear a mask to protect those who won't get vaccinated. Like if I am forced to wear a mask for these people, they aren't going to run and go get a vaccine ASAP. This is just a ploy to get the unvaccinated to mask up again, even when the unvaccinated were supposed to be doing this the whole time. I abhor being "punished" because of these people, but I guess that is the way of the world. *sigh*

and I am in this tough spot because my family refuses to be vaccinated (they are FULL anti vaxxer crazy) and I of course don't want them to get sick or die, but you can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink

Ok, so let me touch on this for a quick moment.

When you say that if I am required to wear a mas, that it has nothing to do with those who don't wear a mask or get vaccinated, I HIGHLY disagree here.

Since the delta variant hasn't been around for that long, I can only conclude from the limited data already gathered, but that said data reflects that the unvaccinated are the most susceptible to contracting, getting ill, potentially dying from that variant MORE so than the vaccinated. If people were to get vaccinated or if the unvaccinated would wear masks, there would be no current need to reinstate mandates because the numbers would be lower than they are.

The problem is that the unvaccinated NEVER followed the rules or the facts/science on wearing masks whenever the mask mandate was lifted. It was never "Everyone doesn't have to wear masks now" but "Everyone who is VACCINATED doesn't have to wear masks now". Because businesses felt like they couldn't enforce this and relying on "The honor system", most unvaccinated people didn't wear masks and now are getting infected with the delta variant, and causing the surge of cases we are seeing now, both in unvaccinated cases and the few breakthrough cases of the vaccinated.

SO to say that there is NO relationship between - everyone (vaxxed and unvaxxed) being required to wear a mask now and the people who are unvaccinated and unmasked - that is untrue, there is an OBVIOUS correlation here that is backed up by the current science/data.

I think what has become abundantly clear over the past 3-6 months is that we need a convenient and foolproof way to verify vaccination status so that we can differentiate policy. We force people to carry drivers licenses, passports, put tabs on their cars, etc etc. we also have the most advanced technology industry in the world that should be able to come up with something if we put proper incentives in place.

Don’t want to share vaccination status? Fine, wear a mask. Same as if you don’t want to share your ID you won’t be allowed in a bar. It’s just utterly ridiculous that we’re using blunt policy tools at this stage of the pandemic and the state of technology development across the world.

I have to agree with the above poster, you don’t want to get vaccinated then you should be required to wear a mask or not be allowed to enter premises that can cause infection (remember vaccines are not 100% effective especially so with the variants). You have a right to not be vaccinated but do not have a right to infect others.

I have heard the argument that corona is not a deadly disease (low mortality rate) and therefore no need to treat it as a deadly disease. I think that some people are not understanding the true nature of this disease and the data that is out there. While it is true that the actual mortality rate of this disease is low as compared to SARS or MERS, it is easily more transmissible by many more multiples. Epidemiologists have repeatedly stated that having a more transmissible disease (such as corona) would cause more actual deaths than a more deadly disease (higher mortality rate) simply due to the fact that it would infect far more people and cause more number of deaths despite the actual lower mortality rate due to the higher rate of transmissibility.

The data is out there to support the idea that the corona is a deadly disease gone unchecked would infect entire populations of people and cause more deaths or at least as many deaths as a more deadly disease. It should be taken as seriously.

    Identity Platinum,
I have a question. I’m going aug 2-6th. With the numbers climbing in Vegas, the next logical step would be masks right? There’s no rumblings of a shutdown again? My last booked trip, that I luckily cancelled, I would have been there when everything closed so I think I’m just a little nervous about that. If anything, the probability while I’m there is it should just be masking?

When are we going to ban smoking in all indoor public places to prevent harm to non-smokers? ;)

Saw an interview with Rich Eisen a couple of days ago. Healthy, 52yo and vaccinated came down with the virus. Felt sick for about 5 days and is certain being vaccinated kept him out of the hospital or worse. His 7yo daughter has the virus. Eisen said going forward he is a mask-wearer for life.

Yes I think your trip can still be a go. I think mid August is when the next scheduled meeting is unless they add one.

I’m not even sure you’ll see a lot of customers in masks. Just stick to your plan and maybe make some “things are better than I thought” plans. The risk outdoors is low so you could eat outside at Overlook or sit at the pool a bit.
