So I'm curious to hear if others have experienced something similar to our recent Aria visit. We were in Vegas with friends the week of July 19 this year. We were staying at Delano (won't again), but we like playing at Aria, so me, my wife, and her friend drove down there to play around midnight I believe on Monday, July 19.

It was so strange. We walked into the casino from the self parking lot, and like 75% of the slots were down. They had maintenance screens up. There were a few slots here and there that were still working, so we decided to stick around and play a little. We asked one of the casino staff walking by, and apparently they were in the middle of a system upgrade. Ok. So I found my favorite 25 cent wheel of fortune machine by Din Tai Fun, and my wife and friend went roaming for other machines.

I was doing ok and was able to play for a while when I got a text from my wife with a picture of a $482 pay slip. Cool, good for her. I kept playing. Like 10-15 minutes later I get a call from my wife. She hit a $1,400 hand pay on the wizard of oz munchkin game kind of near the mlife desk. Nice! She had forgotten her ID, so I cashed out for my $50 profit (woohoo!!) and went over to her. The funny thing was she didn't even know how much she was betting. She hit the 300 button, but didn't realize she was playing at the 5 cent level. She would never play $15/spin normally.

The floor person was nice and just used my mlife card and id. He was a little slow, but we assumed he was busy with the upgrade, so no big deal. My wife told me that her friend had just hit a hand pay for like $1,300 a few minutes earlier on some other random machine. Crazy. We got our cash and split up again.

I played Pai Gow by the VIP slot area for like 6 hands, was up $400 and quit. Again, very nice. So I went to find my wife again. She was playing some random bubble slot game and was in the middle of ANOTHER bonus round. It kept paying more and more, and she won just under $1,000. Huh... Something was definitely off - but in a good way. I took her pay slip to the cage to cash it out, and they had a floor person go and check the machine. It checked out, so I got paid and went back to my wife, who was already up another $200 on a different machine. We weren't sure if they were going to shut things down or accuse us of cheating. The amounts weren't huge, but they were hitting too frequently. I've never seen anything like it.

At that point, there was something wrong with the pay slips, and every machine started making noise for a hand pay, even if you only cashed out for 1 cent. We eventually got our $200 payout and decided to leave. Maybe the dumbest move ever?

Has anyone seen anything like this? It had to be related to the system upgrade. ...or just the luckiest night ever for us? It seemed to be these random video slots that I would never play. I played a few of standard, old-school slots in that same period and won nothing.

Just sounds like you experienced a heater to me. A time when it seems like you can’t lose. God knows we all experience days when it’s all take at the slots. Good for you!!

Shouldn't have anything to do with the upgrade, but always nice to have a night like that! Congrats!

It happens. Not often, but it happens LOL. The bad thing is, it just solidifies our decision to be gambler, when you go on a heater like that. Few and far between.

My last solid heater, was 7 years ago. Don't get me wrong, I have won more and hit jackpots. But, as far as just sitting down, playing, winning and doing it all over again. My best was at....... Aria as well!

    I just couldn't lose. I put in a dollar, I won a car. I put in a dollar, I won a car.

Biggest hits were only $1,000. But I did that twice in the span of just over an hour. I walked out of there with like $3K of their money. Trip report is below, if you care to see what I hit on. Its about half way down, if you want to skip ahead. It was glorious!

For every day that I "can't lose", I have one where I lose a dozen hands in a row at blackjack and get felted. It's just variance. The handpay thing does sound like a software error, but the wins and losses are something that happens in both directions.

I've experienced those Tuesday outages twice at Aria and completely agree with Grid that it had nothing to do with the outage but was merely a heater. I've had many heater days at Aria - just not enough of them to be a big winner :) :)

I hear ya, but it still seems odd that my wife and her friend would have heaters at the same time. Neither of them had ever had a hand pay, and suddenly they both did within like 15 mins of each other?

A girlfrend and I both had the same heater for 24 hours at the Beau 10 years ago.

The odds are the same as them going 15 minutes without a single win, which has happened to me. And honestly, a back-end system upgrade would not (and could not without a massive MICs violation) impact machine payouts.

Well they both hit a handpay within minutes, but your wife was playing 5x what she normally(?) bets, so would you think it weird if her friend hit a handpay and your wife won $280?

This isn't anything related to a software upgrade, it's just the opposite of when you walk around burning $100 bills as fast as you can get them out of your wallet.

The sad part is that Aria's software upgrades always seem to result it outages in many of the slots for at least the next day. One trip resulted in point/free play being down for the entire day before my departure. The good news on that one was that the freeplay was still there on my next trip.

Unfortunately, this isn't limited to slots. The Aria campus is very tech-heavy, which is nice when it works, but not so much when it doesn't. I remember a time a couple years ago that their property-wide POS system went down, so they couldn't do room charges or even credit cards.
