    Hello everyone!

Over this past winter and into the spring I started getting mailers from the Beau Rivage telling me I qualified for a free trip down there. Being the cyncial sharpie that I am, I figured it was a scam. Either we'd end up sitting through timeshare sales pitches straight out of Glengarry Glen Ross, or "free" would end up with a conversation where some host would tell me I needed to blow through $50k at the tables or something.

Then a couple weeks ago I got an e-mail from a host at the Beau Rivage, personally inviting me on this trip. Since that actually took some work on her part, I called her back to see what the deal was. The flight and hotel are comped up front, F&B could be on the back end depending on my play yada yada. OK, fine, you got me. Mrs. Tesla and I could use a vacation, and the price is right especially since my Bellagio offers have sucked all year, so we're in. Hurricane season? Well, yes it is, and that's legitimately something to worry about after Harvey and Irma. I haven't spent anything up front though, so if the trip ends up cancelled at least I'm not on the hook. As it turns out the weather looks good for this coming weekend. Fingers crossed.

We did some online research after saying yes (cynical sharpie, remember? LOL) and people who had taken these trips from other cities had good things to say about the experience and the property itself. Boston is apparently a new destination for them though, which might explain why the mailing campaign seemed a little aggressive.

    Logistics:

The BR has a Sun Country Airlines flight chartered direct from Boston to BIloxi. We leave late on Friday night (Sep 15), get there around midnight, spend 3.5 days (Saturday through Tuesday morning) and fly home Tuesday (Sep 19) afternoon.

So far, we have reservations on Saturday night at BR Prime and Mrs. Tesla is going ham with a spa appointment each day (good for her!). We don't have any other big plans, but is there anything I shouldn't miss in Biloxi? We plan to check out all the casinos at least, but I'd appreciate any tips for places/things to check out. I'd also appreciate any heads-up advice about the BR.

Stay tuned for more over the next few days! I plan for a fairly detailed trip report including lots of pictures.

Took one of these junkets a few months ago out of Philly, they're great! Beau is a nice place, Bixoli is in general!

We have been coming to the Beau for many years on the junkets flying out of the Tampa area. Typically, once you check your luggage at the airport you won't see it again until it's delivered to your room a couple of hours after you've checked in. Since you are arriving late you may want to have a small carry on so you can freshen up from your longer flight. We evacuated from Florida last Thursday and have been staying at the Beau. Hoping to leave Tuesday or Wednesday. This is my first visit since they went "pet friendly". I love dogs but I really don't want to gamble with them so I'm not thrilled with this change. Also, the hotel rooms are starting to show some wear and tear but the public areas are very well maintained.

Restaurants: Food is very subjective but here are my opinions:
BR Prime - it's been hit or miss for us. Sometimes it's excellent- other times just average. We typically order steak and a shellfish appetizer. Stella's - my favorite. Their filet is consistently excellent and I love pasta. We also like their pizza. Sometimes I order the eggplant appetizer as my entree. Jia- I like their won ton soup and pu pu platter.
Terrace Cafe- is always too cold for me to enjoy a meal. The Buffet- Saturday night features Dungeness Crab and they were very large and excellent this past weekend. Snacks- great deli sandwiches and their hot dog can feed a family of 4. Room service is prompt and the food is hot on arrival.

Other casinos- IP is worth a visit. The Golden Nugget is recently remodeled in the past few years so is worth a visit. The Palace is smoke free and has a great lunch buffet. Harrahs is very small. It was never rebuilt to its original glory after Katrina. Scarlet Pearl is the newest casino- maybe 2 years now. You can walk to the Hard Rock as it is next door to the Beau.

Biloxi is a small coastal southern town. From time to time they have special events so you may want to check to see if there is anything going on. This past weekend was a seafood festival. Baseball is over so there's not much else to do but gamble or fish.

I usually get a massage each visit. The Spa is small but has everything you would want including a solarium overlooking the pool. There's also a salon.

There are a few stores for your wife to enjoy. Also an ice cream shop and a coffee shop with various breads, muffins, bagels, etc.

Since it's your first trip there will be plenty to explore and the time will just fly by. Enjoy!

Sumdaze, thanks for the info. I'm glad you made it out of Florida OK, and staying at the Beau sounds like making the best of a bad situation for sure.

We're going to take your excellent advice about a carryon. We're both working all day on Friday, and that plus a 9PM flight means we're going to be tired when we get to our room. I'd rather have an uninterrupted night's sleep instead of waking up when our bags get delivered at 2AM.

How friendly is pet friendly? Do they really let you have a pet (as opposed to a service animal) in the casino? I'm not planning to bring a pet, but I wonder if I can teach my cat to play blackjack. I don't think the dog is smart enough.

LOL! I did see a few dogs in the casino but not a lot. No pets in the restaurants. But you may see several in the lobby. "Supposedly" they deep clean the room after someone with a pet checks out.

We definitely dodged a bullet as we will be going home to power and no damage.

T minus 8 hours until we get on the plane, not like I'm watching the clock while stuck at work or anything like that.

IMG_0910.JPG yay we made it. Check in worked like a commercial flight. Nice and easy. No seat assignment changes allowed though. We got middle and window but we at least are seated together. Talk to you guys tomorrow. I'll recap the flight , arrival and check in, and room conditions.

Crowd at the gate is skewing older. That makes sense. School has just started so anyone with kids wouldn't be running off for a weekend right now.

Good luck on your trip! I use to frequent Biloxi about once a month until I moved. Lots of good info from sumdaze above. You will enjoy it, BR is the nicest casino in Biloxi to me....

    Good morning everyone!

Recap of the flight: We left Boston an hour late due to a catering mishap. Can't take off without the free booze. Since the flight was late into the night there were no shenanigans like the dollar bill game. Most people slept. Mrs Tesla and I had a drink and tried to sleep a little. Didn't happen. All in all it was a smooth flight though with about three hours in the air. Transit to the Beau once we landed was easy.

Our room is comfortable and clean with a nice view of the water. [IMG]

We are off for breakfast now. More pics incoming shortly

Quick photos from our walk around the perimeter of the casino. [IMG]

I surveyed the tables quickly as well. Blackjack is 10 min for the shoes. 50 min for double deck. Rules are ok. 3:2 H17. Single deck is 25 min with terrible rules 6:5. If you want good rules you can get 3:2 S17 in the high limit area. 300 min. No pai gow tiles unfortunately.

Oh and we're up $645. Couldn't resist a hit and run at the double deck table. Now its really time to eat !

More photos. Basically you can see the Steve Wynn design influence everywhere at the Beau if you have been to Vegas. We keep saying stuff like oh that reminds me of the bellagio or the wynn/encore Or the Mirage back when it was nice. We were expecting the resort to be larger because we are so used to Vegas. But the quality level is there no doubt.

Thumbs up from mrs tesla. She wants me to tell all the ladies to bring something to cover up with. The air conditioning is cranked to the max and she has been cold all morning.

The minor league ballpark across the street. Home of the Biloxi Shuckers. The minor league seasons are over but we'd definitely go to a game on a later trip!

Five hours of poker later I ended up another $120. We have reservations at the steakhouse BR Prime tonight so good food porn will be on its way in a few hours. In the meanwhile here's a picture of the poker room.

I was very happy with the BR poker room. Good drink service, the dealers knew their stuff (fast accurate and friendly) and the administration of games by the floor supervisors was good too.
