When filing to get the money back what docs did you include. I have the ITIN number already, do you need a certified copy of passport as well?

Also I just checked my Mlife win loss statement for 2016 and the Jackpot is not on there. Does this mean they didn't report it?

I believe the certified passport was only needed to obtain the ITIN initially, I haven't sent a copy since.
I would contact Mlife about that. In 2014 MANY of us had huge delays (almost 2 years) due to the IRS being very stringent on ensuring that the refund being claimed was in fact reported and submitted from the casino. You paid life the tax withholding, I would ENSURE they have it properly documented....before you try and claim it!

It seems messed up that they don't have the jackpot reported on my win loss, since my Mlife card number is on the 1042 form. Seems like the right hand doesn't relay to the left hand. I think we need a Cdn tax forum on here.

Ask and you shall receive....I slightly re-named your thread title!
Any Canadians wanting to share experiences or having questions for other members can post it here!

It is messed up that it's not showing in your 1042.....maybe it is fairly common and why the IRS did such a lengthy audit process on the casino reporting in 2014. I didn't have the same problem in 2015, it was very quick....I actually rec'd my 2015 return BEFORE I got my 2014! Hopefully members can share how quickly they are getting their refunds!

Thanks that titles much better. Called M-life and he told me if I didn't have my card in the machine at the time of the jackpot it wouldn't register on my win-loss statement. So even though I have a 1042 with my card number on it, my win loss statement says 0 under jackpot. Once CET gives me my totals for 2016 I will file and see how it goes.

Oh btw the guy said that if someone forgot their card in the machine when I hit the jackpot, that win will show up on their win loss statement.

So for those that do group play beware even if someone else claims the Handpay, the card in the machine will still show the win.

Interesting that they don't manually add the jackpot to your account. I seem to recall always being asked for my players card and assumed they entered it- guess I'm wrong! Wonder if that's how all properties handle it or only mlife? Good to know for accuracy in reporting wins!

I notice on the site it is open to e-filing come January 23 and it looks like the 1040NR is eligible for it. Has anyone done this? Quicker and easier than paper?

I though the website said it wasn't available until the 23rd? Wonder if it's just not live yet?

Did you give them your ITIN number for on the W2G slip? I didn't when I had my Bellagio jackpot and it didn't show up either. I had to call Mlife...if this is the case I may still have the direct number for who you should call I'll look for it. Forgot to add I didn't have my card in machine either. The emails I provided futher down reissued me a win slip with my ITIN for proof of Jackpot

Thanks Crystal, quick question can I file without that jackpot on my yearly report? Right now it says Iam up $78 on mlife for the year. My losses from V/P and Cet will cover the jackpot hit.

Crystal, do you have V/P putting your ITIN on the tax slip? I'm sure I asked them to when I first got the number and the gal said they'd only use my drivers license. I know IRS prefers it. Maybe I should be asking someone other than a slot attendant?

I make sure they put my ITIN. The first time the attendant said drivers and I insisted my ITIN be on. The last couple times they said they had my ITIN on file and will put it on without me asking.

Any update on this Crystal? I'm not seeing that it does specifically work for the 1040NR....just a 1040, not sure if that's the case or I'm trying the wrong software option. Grrrrr.

My 2 cents on this is that you should file anyway, and meanwhile work on MILF. You won the jackpot, so you are reporting the truth. And from what I've read, win/loss statements are not considered proof of losses in case of an audit anyway.

They want some kind of ridiculously detailed gambling log.

After being on hold for 10 minutes while the representative at IRS looked into efile she came back on and said they are having problems and she will escalate it up to management...needless to say I will mail mine tomorrow too and registered mail so they can't B.S. and say they didn't receive it.
