Have a quick trip into Chicago for a hockey game. I will likely only be in town 24 hours or so but will have 12 hours of free time. Any good casinos between O Hare and downtown Chicago. It looks like Rivers casino is close to Ohare. Is it any good? Size? I'll do a quick trip report if possible.

Rivers is definitely the closest to the city. It's a decent size, but it always seems busy to me. On a weekend night it's almost impossible to get a seat at any table whether it's BJ, poker, craps, roulette, etc. Table minimums are generally pretty high. Expect at least $25 BJ and $15+ craps

It's been a really long time since I've been there, so I can't comment on current slot selection.

The crowd can get a little rowdy in there too

Thanks Knight. I think that will likely be the choice just because its close. I would probably just slot. I wonder what the cocktail service and price is like.

Rivers is very convenient for you, it is about 10 min from my house. I love Rivers, think its a super cool casino. Agree with above comments about weekend crowds and minimums. I don't recall drink prices being outlandish, they have Peach Ciroc. I have had a ton of big wins at this place so I love it. Kinda fell out of my rotation as kids got busier and haven't been for a while, so can't say if they have kept it up, but as long as I was going it was by far the best option in the area for convenience and quality.

Thanks Beeejay. Not too worried about drink prices but also don't want to pay something crazy. If they were i would make sure i was pre loaded. It will be likely early morning saturday gambling so likely not that busy yet.

Illinois gambling is shit. Just know that going in to it. I have a write up on all the casinos in Chicagoland.

    https://sites.google.com/site/lvgrid/chicago

The state is limited on how many gaming positions they can have, so all the casinos are small. Rivers is the closest to your hotel. Its newer, but not much to look at. Most of their penny games are actually 2 cent machines. That way they force you to bet more if you play the MIN. And those machines are an ungodly 13% hold. 87% return. One of the worst in the country.

If you want a real gambling experience in a big house, the Horseshoe in Hammond Indiana is 15 miles and 25 minutes from the United Center (I assume you are hitting an NHL game). The odds suck there too, but at least its a real casino experience. Well, as real as you can get near downtown Chicago.

Yeah I mostly just played Boner Deluxe VP and they had 8/6 last time I went, which is better than anything I could find in vegas last trip. I have no clue on other games/rules.

I made an impromptu visit this summer. It's still nice, at least to me. One drawback is it's tiny because of dumb Illinois law limiting casinos to 1200 gaming spots.

The other as @Grid mentioned is that 2c is the minimum denomination on many slots.

Nickel multiline gimmick VP is pretty sparse too. More denominations like this in the VP area.

Looks like ill have about 6 hours at rivers next weekend. Sat. morning until my flight home. I usually bet around 3-5 bucks on slots. Hoping for a couple good wins with a bank roll of 2500 or so. Decent bank roll for a short period but dont want to be short. I like chasing!

wow, I didn't know you could find the actual paybacks in each casino in IL. I knew their odds were terrible based on experience, but wow. I'm back in the area visiting family often, and if I have time go out to Blue Chip or Four Winds. For me it's worth the drive for a little better odds at those.

I prefer Blue Chip too. Wish they were non smoking, that's one thing they've done right here

You can in most Midwest states. They aren't assholes like Nevada or Mississippi. Of course Four Winds is sure as hell not going to tell you.

Oct 2018 penny slot win Percentages in Chicagoland:

Note: I'm looking at pennies only as this helps mitigate video poker effects.

    Illinois

    Hollywood Joliet 11.63%
    Hollywood Aurora 11.96%
    Grand Victoria 12.11%
    Harrah's Joliet 12.14%
    Rivers 12.44%

    Indiana

    Blue Chip 10.61%
    Majestic Star 11.24%
    Majestic Star II 11.81%
    Ameristar 12.06%
    Horseshoe 12.10%
Yeah non-smoking is the one thing I love about Illinois. I love Blue Chip for the craft beer selection and price. Unfortunately, with The Game's bar area having VP now, they have permitted smoking in there too. Ugh.

Might be going on Friday, but likely during the day. :(

@tringlomane sorry off topic but you are from Chicago I think? I’m ordering pizzas delivered by Goldbely and wondered which of the big names pizza places there have the best pizza? I’m buying as Christmas gifts and some items to eat Christmas Eve. Thanks for any input.

I'm in chicago a lot, but I haven't tried different chicago pizzas inside and out. For deep dish we like Giordano's. But hell you can get that in Vegas now. Lol

Well I don’t give a shit if you fold or not ( LOL) I’m just spending a lot to get these deep dish and regular pizzas shipped and want to make sure I pick the best places. I’m going for Chicago, Detroit, and NY. So if anyone has suggestions let me know. They have quite a few places in each city offering to ship them to your home frozen with baking instructions. I’m ordering all kinds of food to make it really fun Christmas Eve. Have almost ALL our kids coming home and just found out I’m going to be a grandma, so want to feed that baby too! ;)
