I like their steakhouse. It's a bit smokey due to where they grill the meat, but what a trip. Walk through a nasty casino, and all of the sudden you're in a fairly decent steakhouse. Reminds me of Hugo's Cellar. Nasty, dirty casino, and poof, you've entered another world.

Back when Slots-A-Fun had their craps table, I used to play a lot of morning and early day craps there. I used to stay at Hilton Grand Vacation Club, play mostly at Binions, but always walked to the Riveria and Slot-A-Fun to play craps earlier in the day.

It is a construction gimmick. If you open into October, or later, you don't have to report the entire quarter for share holders since the quarter was not complete. You can get away with projections and buy yourself some time until Q1 the follow reports.

Just takes the heat off some in case opening was not what you expected, or you had some glitches to work out. A lot of major construction opens this way, well, unless it is Government work.

Plus, with Vegas hotels, October is a good time to open because you can sort of ease into it. If you open too early, you're faced with high expectations from the summer vacation crowd to be perfect on day one, which is not realistic. But if you open too late, you risk missing the holidays, which is not a time you want to want to be learning the ropes.

Lets not forget 1999 saw the opening of 3 casinos on the strip. Mandalay Bay, The Venetian, and Paris LV.
I miss the building boom of the late 90's. Lots of casinos hitting 20 years old.

And each new resort had a glorious theme! I miss it too.

I learned to play craps at that table at Slots-A-Fun. Husband was wandering around playing slots and I decided to try it. There were maybe 5 guys at the table and I waited for between rolls and asked the Pit if they'd help me learn. The players were really nice and said "Come on in, we'll teach you!" I had a ton of fun and won maybe $50 bucks. I haven't played much since and would definitely need to refresh my knowledge, but that was a really fun day.

As a young teenager, I was staying with my parents at the Riviera across the street. Dad was a craps player and we went to check out Circus Circus. They had barkers out on the street giving out $5 chips to get people inside. Dad was old schemas Vegas and did care for the atmosphere.

I have to admit, I do love these stories about people and their first memories of Las Vegas.
My Vegas history started in 1990, as I may have said before. And the pace of change has been astronomical.
My late uncle from South Central LA drove a bus for a living. He loved Craps.
He loved coming to Vegas to play and to "Make Out" and win, as he described it to when I was a young teen.
Las Vegas was always somewhat Desert/Exotic to me. Most gamblers at the time from my area went to Reno or Tahoe.....I could not imaging going there for fun.

Now, in 2018, here I am. Think I love it the same way my uncle did.
