I was looking at the new Identity website (looks great, BTW) in anticipation of our trip in a couple weeks and I discovered two things. One is that I’m only 2k tier points from Gold, the other is that one of the Gold benefits is no resort fee.

My current reservation is two nights comped, one night paid, with resort fee on all three nights. Can anyone confirm if I will get the resort fee removed on this trip when I make Gold? (If it matters, I will definitely reach Gold on the first night of the stay). Thanks!

Yes. They can contact the Identity Desk at checkout and remove the charges. I would say to do it during the trip but I did do it that way and the chick misunderstood and checked me out midway thru my trip. Of course, only found out after I walked all the way back to the room and my keycard didn't work.

Didn't someone on here say that you can keep your status alive by buying a gift card to Cosmo online?

Yes but I am not THAT close! I am about a trip away 9k pts with spend and all that.

That would be a hell of a lot of gift cards. Unless I could use those for gaming but I doubt Cosmo will like that! Lol

Unfortunately, it is a little more nuanced than this- I just stayed at the Cosmopolitan this past weekend. I was 4k points away from Gold at the beginning of my stay, and easily earned enough points between my spending and gambling to earn Gold on my first night. However, because I charged everything to my room, and my room charges didn't post until I checked out, I didn't technically become Gold until the day after I checked out (I'm primarily a table player, and did not earn the necessary 4k points from slots or VP alone during the 2 day trip).

I called Identity today to get my resort fees refunded from my stay, and they refused to refund the 2 nights of resorts fees for the trip where I earned Gold. I argued that If I would have charged dinner on the first night of my stay to my credit card (versus to my room) and presented my receipt to the Identity Desk, I would have flipped over to Gold first night of my stay and had the fees waived. They wouldn't budge. Sure, it's only $80 bucks, but I'm pretty disappointed in Cosmopolitan's typically stellar customer service with this one- especially to a loyal 4x a year customer (albeit to a relatively low-roller like myself). :(

Bottom line- if you earn Gold through slot play during your trip, it sounds like they waive your resort fees. However, If you earn Gold through spending (or a combination of spending and slot play) during your stay, you will still have to pay resort fees for that visit.

I should have said that this route is possible only if you earn your points thru slot play. We keep our trips completely comped so I forgot about the spend delay. Sorry that they wouldn't pick up the resort fees for you. Hope it was still a good trip.

Well the delay is only if you room charge. If you give the card at the POS there isn't a delay (except for maybe the shops, but you can just bring receipt to identity)

Sorry about all that and honestly I think it is extra shitty they didn't take the resort fees off. It's nickles to them in the long run and you ARE gold...

Yep! It was still a great (albeit losing) trip. Had a fantastic wraparound terrace with a strip and Aria view, fantastic food, saw Opium for the second time....
I fall into that space where I get offers for rooms, but do not have a host... I think issues like this are probably more easily resolved with the help of a host!

You should reach out to Kevin, who frequents these boards. He might be able to look into the issue for you. I agree that it's bogus that they wouldn't waive their stupid resort fee. That's the kind of pettiness that can drive certain people away.

Say you checkout on 9/16/2018 and become gold on 9/17/2018. At the time of checkout you’re silver and therefore don’t get the resort fee comped. So then you’re gold status from 9/17/2018 to 9/16/2019. If on your trip next year you checked out on 9/16/2019, would you be willing to pay for the resort fee then? Essentially you’re asking for gold status a day early but guessing wouldn’t give it up a day early too. I don’t really think this situation is particularly unfair, rather it’s just a case of not understanding how and when points are accrued. (Mlife also gives points for room charges after checkout since that’s when the room charges are paid.) But I think the whole situation could be clearer if the rules required you to be gold or platinum at 12:00am on the check IN day for getting the fee waived.
