This may be funny only to me, but I'm a low roller who has been going to Vegas for 15 years. Sometimes with a group, sometimes solo.

Every year when I start the planning process, I struggle explaining to my wife why this trip is important. She will never say "you can't go", but it's like pulling teeth detailing the mystique of Vegas to someone who has never been and doesn't want to go.

Dealing with people who Don't Get it makes me love Vegas even more.

    Marko..

Vegas is necessary in order to get time away from people who don't understand why you would want time away from them.

Ha! I'd love for her to come, once, so she can understand. But the other 99% of the times, I like being on my own.

    I probably have them all
    Try any of these.

    I need a retreat.
    Looking for investment opportunities.
    It's god's will.
You (your wife) needs time for herself for reflection.
And my favorite..... I got this thing to do (Italian way of saying, business to take care of)

My other half has never been, has no desire to go and doesnt "get it" either. It doesnt stop me from rambling off about it anyways, hoping one day he might change his mind....In the meantime, Vegas is all mine, and I'm ok with that too

Mrs MN doesn’t really “Get” Vegas per se......she loves the spring and fall trips because she can extend her summer, get away from work and relax in the sun by the pool. She likes to play slots with fun and frequent bonuses, but gets bored with it after about two hours. She puts up with my degeneracy.

I find this topic so interesting because I thought I was the only person who enjoyed going to Vegas alone. I totally get it. I used to go with my wife (now ex-wife ;i) and it was awesome. For the past 3 years I now go alone and enjoy it just as much, if not more. In fact, my San Diego friends are meeting me this March and I will be glad to spend time with them, but I made sure I am there an extra day by myself. During the last few years I have made contacts with so many hosts, bartenders and such that I seem to have contacts/friends at most of the major hotels. Even though I have a 5 1/2 hour flight from NYC, it's truly like coming home again. My two trips per year are the only times I feel I am truly "off the grid."

I’m not sure I could have a spouse who disagreed with me on this but the co-worker discussion is what gets me. It’s like I’m a mystical unicorn because I can get three nights free at Luxor.

I've been well over a hundred times, lost count. (and I think,,that's a lotta airfare from Vancouver) But I have been going for 44 years, maybe 41 to Vegas. I started out by doing Reno (I was 18 but had my sister's ID for 21, and back then they didn't ask for picture ID). My ex never got it. We actually did a road trip to SF and Reno on our honeymoon many years ago but I only brought him to Vegas once. He thought that he was being watched while I played bj? Whatever. AT work,,(same job for 20 some odd years,,they GET ME. They don't gamble at all, but know Vegas is my HAPPY PLACE. So...keep the girl who writes the pay-cheques Happy!

I couldn't agree more. First time solo in Vegas was when a girlfriend had to cancel but I didn't was to miss the weekend away.

After the initial weirdness and feeling like I had a big "L" on my forehead while dining alone it was quite nice.

Now I prefer to have that total solitude in a city full of people. I now split my times solo or with friends. My best option so far was me flying in a day early, friends arrived for two nights then I had an additional night solo.

I have gotten to know fabulous bartenders, restaurant managers, servers and VIP lounge staff.

It truly feels like home and I love running away some times.

Flying in a day early is the best. Best of both options.

This is by far my favorite part. It's one thing to get taken care of because they know you're spending a lot of money at the tables -- it's another to have people truly remember you. I think my favorite perk is being able to text a bartender/server/manager that I'm coming by and know that they'll have a seat saved for me.

Yes-that might be one of my favorite parts. I did that once at Bond. I got through the crowd and everyone was staring at me trying to figure out who I was ;)

Everyone I know hates gambling and the idea of going to the casino. They look down on me for going and it annoys me. Honestly it is very hard to find a real life friend who is willing to gamble thousands of dollars with you that understand the concept of what is going on. It is easy to find broke friends who are willing to go and sit on your head the whole time hoping I put them in the game which I do when i am on a win streak. I lost those friends a long time ago because once you lose you automatically think they are a jinx and the energy is negative around you which I can't have around me while I go to gamble.
