    Hello Everyone.

New to the forum & going on my first Vegas trip on Tuesday. Some friends have been begging me to go with them for almost 9 months now. They're going for a week. I finally gave in and said I'll go for one night. Sun country had tickets for $29 each way and I was able to snag a comped from Boyd for my play at Diamond Jo Worth in Iowa.

Hopefully I can make trips become more of a regular occurrence, but I was wondering if anyone had any bucket list items to hit. I know I'm wanting to go try the derby machine at the D but other than that I'm really open to ideas.

    Thanks!
    -Josh

Sounds like you are in town for one single night?

If staying Downtown, I would stay down there and explore all of the historical properties and sites on Fremont Street and nearby. Should be a ton of stuff, and if friends are staying for a week, they should have a few ideas.
Included for me would be Binion's, the El Cortez and Plaza. Maybe check out the New Circa Las Vegas (Very New but in "Old" Vegas). Maybe wander down onto East Fremont Street. The D is one of my favorites.

Everyone on the board has their favorites and gives great advice, so I would be sure to let everyone know what you liked or disliked and share your thoughts after you get back home.
That might set you up for your (hopefully) next trip!
    Have fun.

    Thank you B.C. Tuggle!

Yes, it is only one night this time. Whirlwind 26 hours :) I've been really wanting to say yes to my friends on this trip for a long time. With the $29 flights and the 0 room. I really couldn't say no. Would have planned longer, but I was saving for a family trip to AZ last weekend. That kind of ate into my gambling/recording budget and I didn't want to have to worry about stretching it out.

I'm definitely planning on checking out Circa, The D, Golden Nugget.

99% sure I'll be back considering this will be just a taste. I will for sure report back.

    Thanks again!

Arts District and the Container Park are cool, too. However, I'm not sure what's open on any given day/time.

Too bad it's just one night, because I'd definitely recommend checking out some of the Strip, in particular the Bellagio fountain show, which is my favorite thing in town.

Ha, fair enough. Well if you do make it to the Strip, the Mirage has a great interior, in particular the atrium, though I'm not a huge fan of the rooms or the actual casino. There's the volcano out front, too. Walking around Venetian is awesome, too, in particular the exterior plaza and the lobby area (the casino itself is nice but fairly generic). I don't really spend much time downtown, but the FSE canopy is a can't-miss. But if you need one bucket-list item for the Strip, I'd definitely say the Bellagio fountain show.

This may be blasphemy around these parts, but I wouldn't spend too much time gambling. These days, you can play blackjack in plenty of places, but there's only one Vegas. The Vegas gambling experience itself is not hugely different than what you'll get at your local, but the sights and resorts are what really makes the place special (at least in my opinion).

Totally makes sense. Outside of the gambling I'm really looking forward to having the downtime and hanging out with my friends. (also being toddlerless for 26 hours)

Welcome to the forum!! Tomorrow is your big day, how exciting!! Can’t wait to hear all about it!! Because it’s more of a dip your toes in the water..... I think the downtown area will keep you plenty busy for your 26 hours adventure!! Then you can save the strip for your next adventure ... ( it gives you an excuse to have to go back lol) just the people watching will be an experience and I’d give a go to a little gambling ( kind of cool ordering “ comped” drinks, just don’t forget to tip your server :) ). Have a great time and safe travels.

Speaking of tipping the servers I was wondering that. What do you consider fair on a "comped" drink?

For me, it depends on what I'm playing. At a $50 table, I usually do at least $2-3, but usually $5. At least $1 at lower limits.

Same at VP bars, but I'm friends with the bartenders and tended to wind up with higher-end drinks, and also would just ask them to "make me something" and let them take the wheel.

If you're playing $500, I'd personally say that $1 won't cut it, but at the end of the day it's a personal decision.

Tipping is all personal experience for me. It’s up to what you feel is fair. Even at slots I do minimum 2. Have a great time!

Your 26 hours are going to fly by! Vegas consumes all of your energy. A one night, first time trip is sure to make your head spin! I agree with the others, don’t try to go too far; make this a preview of sorts and come back for more. Please let us know how it goes. You’ll love it!

For me 5.00 at minimum. 10 definitely if winning. I stack 5.00 bills for tipping before I leave. It's such a privilege to go. I budget tips in my bankroll.I tip more to cocktail waitresses over the hand pay peeps. I was a cocktail waitress while in college it was hellish at times. For handpays I give them 20.00 unless over 2500 then I give more. That handpay tipping confuses the hell outta me. Lol.

Consider making a reservation for drinks outside at the Legacy bar. 60th? Floor of Circa. You can sit outside with a phenomenal view!

It is such a privilege to go right now.

My dad was a bartender. I’m definitely on the heavier side especially in a pandemic. And I stay at the same place each time so I remember the bartenders and they pretend they remember me.

Legacy Club looks awesome but not sure I’m willing to go downtown just for that

I think you need to give us an update Josh. Hope it was great.

I definitely will! Still trying to get caught up on my piled up work tasks. Did 12 hours yesterday. Should be able to stick to 8 today.

Definitely! Our last couple stays at the Wynn. The morning cocktail waitress remembered my wife likes whipped cream in her baileys and coffee and I did not. She remembered from our November visit! Absolutely impressed.

That’s how I feel about the chandy bartenders. They are awesome and always remember my morning Bailey N coffee. Love them and graciously tip as a result of all their hard work!!
