Last year we were blessed with the opportunity to move onto my family property. My man & I decided in the winter we would revitalize the garden and surrounding areas. He picked up an old tiller off Craigslist for $20 ( I remember asking why he was buying a rusty old pos for ) He then added an old Honda motor to it that he had rebuilt, and voila! We had beauty soil underneath to work with, which my papa had used years previous. He built a grow box for our basement where we could start everything by seed, as well as a greenhouse to house the peppers and tomatoes.

We've been eating out of the garden all spring & summer. 3 types of lettuce, radish, spinach, peas, brocollini, turnip, mini cukes, beans, carrots, onions, potatoes, tomatoes & peppers. My youngest son even started his own little pumpkin patch!

I'm also growing garlic I received from an old farmer on one of the little surrounding islands. I'm going to harvest that soon and replant in the fall, in hopes I can get a bigger harvest next year and keep it going. After eating his garlic for the past 8 months, I could never go back to buying the cheap Chinese stuff in the grocery stores!

I'm very blessed to be able to have this much room to grow my own food for the family. I find it very therapeutic, no one bugs me out there, not to mention great exercise! I find it's also acceptable to crush a few beers by myself out there in the garden

I'd love to see pictures of other members garden spaces, hauls & new ideas. It's my first year and I still have so much to learn! [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

We pulled these old tubs out of the trees in the spring and filled them with black gold. Then another score from Craigslist, a couple giving away free strawberries and raspberries. They grew huge, even got 2 crops out of the strawberries![IMG]

Remember with raspberries, the new shoots this year will bear next year's fruit. After this year's stalks are done fruiting, cut them off.
    Love the garden.

Getting my hands into the dirt in my neck of the woods is still two months away but have been building some new raised beds for my backyard farming action. Here is a nice vibe for us backyard Daddy-O farmers, Daddy-O farmers.

We got a raspberry and blackberry bush for my mom for mother's day.
Unfortunately we have the wrong type of dirt, because they just died. :(
