It's been about two months since Mrs. P and I have seen the inside of a casino. The planned Easter trip was delayed by work, of all things. But the call has gone out, the boss has approved

And we're heading back out to Lake Charles on Friday.

Our plan is to get an earlier start than usual so that we can arrive in time for dinner at Grotto at 10:30 on Friday evening. By then we'll need some drinks. And some food.

And I desperately need to turn my slot luck around. Because it's been cold. Ice-cold. I haven't had a meaningful slot hit in a couple of years now. VP has been a different story but the slot-machines have been brutal.

No massages this time because the spa is booked solid. This means we'll try to spend some more time eating, drinking, gambling and drinking than usual.

Tonight, Wednesday and Thursday are casino movie nights. Probably Last Vegas, Think Like a Man Too and Hangover. Of course, Vegas Vacation is a must as well.

Since I've now hit RF at both GN and L'Auberge my gaming 'goal' is a significant slot win and a dealt Royal on Triple Play. Gotta have something to shoot for right?

For food we have the aforementioned dinner at Grotto, Lunch at Cadillac Cantina followed by a $20 donation to Billion Dollar Buyer and dinner at the new Chart House at the Country Club at GN, where I'm finally going to try their lobster bisque.

Add to all of that a ton of Kentucky Derby preps to keep an eye on and we've got a full weekend planned.

Three more sleeps, then we're back. I can't wait.

I thought you had mentioned an Easter weekend GN trip...glad to know I'm not crazy!
At least work only delayed your trip by a week. Looking forward to following this weekend. Hope you both have a fun time, and good luck on hitting your big-ass slot win goal !!

Let's hope so. If not I'll take some premium quads as a fall-back.

    Thanks.

Thanks. Maybe, just maybe we can inject some new material into these for a change. Not quite sure what we're going to do all day Saturday with no spa session planned. Might have to hitch a ride over the the sawdust joint in town and see if we can find something notable there.

The puppy is our new one. We adopted him from the shelter shortly after we had to put the old man down. Our other one needed a friend. He's finally healthy after having kennel cough when we got him and then "the procedure" so we could make the adoption official. Now we just have to train him.

Good luck to you both! Your new puppy is a cutie; you’ll probably be worried like a new parent.

Get that bad slot juju off your back!

Best of luck to you and the Mrs! I usually watch Casino, Vegas Vacation and a little more obscure, but pretty good movie, The Cooler that includes some very good performances including Alec Baldwin in a role that got him an Oscar nomination.

Alec Baldwin was great in his performance but in my opinion, William H Macy was better. Every movie and television show he does, I am rooting for his character even though I know he's going to get kicked and that he doesn't truly deserve my sympathy and support. From the alcoholic Frank in Shameless to the hapless weasel in Fargo to the stubborn salesman in Door to Door and of course, the Cooler in The Cooler, you hope, just hope, that he will succeed and then all will be right with the world (when it's truly not).

As for Vegas movies, you don't have Honeymoon in Vegas or Oceans Eleven on the list?

    Good luck on the trip.

When we head to Vegas we always watch both Ocean's 11. And Ocean's 13. This is probably sacrilege but I'm not a fan of Honeymoon in Vegas.

    Yeah
Yeah, Macy is a great character actor and good in everything he does. Maria Bello is underrated....like her too. I mention Baldwin because you don't really think of him as a great dramatic actor, other than his small but memorable part in Glen Garry Glen Ross..."ABC....Always Be Closing" and "You need brass balls to sell real estate" LOVE that part!!

Good Luck Nick P and Mrs Nick P.

I'm going to make a trip to Lake Charles one of these days. I'm all set at GN or LDL with LOC and rooms and comps even though I've never even been to Lake Charles. Nick P's pics been making me want to make a trip but just the long drive makes it where I can go to Vegas in less time.

Lets see some RF and 4OAK's WAK

I might make it to my local Winstar or Choctaw. (yuck) ante for every hand

Yup, it's sacrilege. There's so much bad acting against the backdrop of Vegas, we are okay with the sound off. LOL

Take pics for me. I want to see places I'll probably never visit (too easy to fly to LV from BWI).

Was at work until 8:30 last night. Why, oh why, are the weeks prior to a casino trip (even a short local trip) such a shit-show lately.

I'm not even taking any vacation this time around.

On another note: absolutely perfect day in Houston today weather wise.

I want to interject some horse racing into this TR.

On Saturday there are 3 big Kentucky Derby Prep races that will go a long way to determining the field of 20 that will run on the first Saturday in May. I've already got my key Derby horse picked out (if he runs) but I'll save that for later. I want to talk about my favorites, whom I will be placing bets on at Delta Downs on Friday evening on the drive up, before it kicks off.

Wood Memorial. Pick: Vino Rosso. This is the stablemate, and training partner for Audible, the winner of the Florida Derby last Saturday. In a morning work prior to the Florida Vino Rosso outran Audible over 7 furlongs. And it wasn't that close. The Wood is expected to have a strong field and I think Vino Rosso might get a little lost in the betting odds. I'm hoping to grab a price and hang on for the win.

Blue Grass Stakes. Good Magic (the 2 year old champion) and Free Drop Billy are going to be the favorites here, but I'm taking a look at Flameaway, the Mark Casse trained 2nd place finisher in the Tampa Bay Derby showed marked improvement in that race and I'm thinking again that I'll grab a price and hold on for the ride. My hope is to grab 10-1 or better here. I might also sprinkle a small bet on Quip, who beat Flameaway in the Tampa Bay but I don't think he is a true Derby Horse.

Santa Anita Derby. We'll find out the final list of entries today but this race feels very chalky barring something interesting happening late. The race was supposed to be a rematch between Bolt D'Oro, who won the San Felipe at Santa Anita, and McKinzie, who crossed the wire first but was DQ'd to 3rd place due to a late veer in the lane. But McKinzie is out with a leg injury so Bob Baffert is expected to enter Justify, an undefeated 3 year old who has seemingly unlimited potential and who is improving on every start. IF the field is similar to the San Felipe, then these two horses will probably be in a match race. But I'll have more on this once the field is settled later today.
