Back at work and back to adulting I guess. Mrs. P did get a new Buc-ees T-shirt yesterday. Says on the back: "Buc-ees Because Adulitng is HARD"

    Final gamble tally:

    Budget: $1500
    Take Home: $1627
    Up: $127

    4OAKS: 8
    2 - Ks
    2 - 5s
    1 - 3s
    1 - 9s
    1 - 6s
    1 - AWAK

    1 - Straight Flush

Slots: Nada. Zilch, nothing. Not a single hit over $50. Only one Buffalo Bonus ($2.40 bet) for (wait for it) $5.10. Did hit a Minor on 88 Fortunes at Golden Nugget on Sunday morning for $30ish. Slot in Lake Charles are SO TIGHT. I've said before that the minimum hold in Louisiana is 80% by law. The more I play slots there the more I think both casinos are set at the minimum. Because everything started out so horribly I only donated $400 to slots all trip long. It just started to become ridiculous how fast the money was flowing through. One small slot highlight: I did get to play Buffalo MAX at Golden Nugget. I played at the $4.00/spin level for $100 and ended up with a big pile of nothing to show for it. No bonuses, an only got two coins twice. I do like the line pay structure on it however. Just two Buffalo pays $5.00 so if you can get Buffalo across all five lines with the 4x multiplier during the bonus that game has crazy potential. I'm looking forward to playing it more in Vegas where the hold percentages are more reasonable.

We actually spent most of this trip outside the casino area. Friday night, after arriving, we dropped by the casino bar, had a few drinks, and played some video poker, then we ate. Played a little bit more VP and then went to bed. Saturday we spent most of the day at the pool. After the pool we went over to Golden Nugget, that was a HUGE mistake. The place was so crowded there were no games open and no place to sit at the bars. Most people weren't playing, just sitting around talking to friends. It was honestly hard to even walk around the casino there were so many groups of people standing around talking in the middle of the aisles. We did one circle. checked to see what the wait time was at Cadillac Cantina (2 hours, and they don't take reservations) and then hot-footed it back to L'Auberge where we got reservations for Ember via Open Table. After Ember we were pretty schnozzled, put some money into the slots but stopped after the first $40 flew through Dancing Drums with not a single winning spin. After that we crashed.

Sunday we woke up, checked out, checked our bags and went back over to GN. Threw what remained of my $200 from the night before into slots and lost it, although I did get more play there than I had all weekend at L'Auberge, even had some winning spins which kept me playing longer. Still no bonuses though, which were impossible to get for me this weekend. Hit the Minor that I discussed earlier and had a $38 line-hit on an Asian themed game I had never seen before (the Major was around $2000 which was why I decided to play it (the machines next to it were around $500 for the same) but that's about it.

Went back over to L'Auberge to try and break the quad drought that I had had since Friday night. Hit three little ones and called it a trip. Mrs. P developed a pretty good cough overnight and was feeling horrible on Sunday. Drove home, stopped by Walgreen's to pick her up some medicine, stopped by Taco Cabana, at dinner and was in bed by 8:30PM. Sleeping for almost 10 hours was a blessing. I'm feeling much better today but Mrs. P is still sick. Unfortunately, there's no one at work to cover her shift so she has to go in at 1PM to close. Hopefully they can cover for her tomorrow.

So that's it. I think the biggest surprise, for me, this trip was how little I actually gambled. A few VP sessions and two runs at the slots and that was it. And I actually had more fun here than I've had in a long time. I think the key in Lake Charles is to find other things to do besides gamble, because the casino odds are so poor. The pool was great, the servers were nice, they had a good DJ and we had outstanding pool weather. They make a mean frozen Pina Colada and one of the better Hurricane's I've had in a while. Those made it difficult to leave the pool.

That's it for us until August 16th, when we depart for our HUGE, GIGANTIC 20TH ANNIVERSARY BENDER. Until then thanks for following along.

Nice wrap up Nick, and glad to hear that you had a fantastic time in spite of the stubborn slots....with all your 4OAK luck, I'm thinking you need to stick much more heavily with VP, at least while at those venues? Really sorry to hear that Mrs.P is still feeling poorly, I was thinking/hoping that it was mostly related to casino air quality and that she would be feeling all sprite and fit after you got away from that environment...Hope she gets back to feeling 100% very soon, and finds someone to cover for her shift(s).

Will be eagerly anticipating the GIGANTIC 2OTH ANNIVERSARY BENDER!!!!

I do play a lot of VP. Probably 70-80% of my gaming budget goes to that.

But I will admit that slots, and 3-card poker in Vegas, are my weakness. I just enjoy taking a break from VP and having some mindless fun. Plus, when you're getting play, slots are FUN. I think, on one of my recent Vegas TR's, I calculated that if I had just stuck with VP I would have turned a profit, but slots and a horrid 3-card session a the Flamingo swung me to a loss. But I'll still keep trying because gambling should be fun, not a grind. And VP can get very grind-y for me at times.

That said, in Lake Charles, I will probably stick more to VP. I say that but we all know what's going to happen the next time I go there and see those Buffalo Max slots sitting open.....

One last item to add to this: At Ember Mrs. P suggested that I try Whistle Pig Rye Whiskey in an Old Fashioned.

If you have not previously done this in the past I suggest you do so if it's available. It's an allocated whiskey so it's sometimes difficult to find but well worth the hunt.

Well, hey! You didn't go home with a loss, so congrats on keeping the BR!

I agree about the crowds on the weekends. It gets ridiculous, but we usually find a decent spot to play at and stay there awhile during the "crazy throngs"! We are also going to spend some time at the pool next trip.
