Anyone have a go to Chinese place? Off strip preferably. We're looking for a place that makes you question if you should even be eating there. Definitely not looking for a glitz and glam spot, just great Chinese food. I know there's the whole Springhill area(is that the right name, something like that? ), but I'm not familiar with anything there.

We've probably not eaten Chinese food in almost 4 years at home since my youngest nhas a crazy peanut allergy and it's so common in asian foods we've just totally avoided it.

I would say KJ Kitchen, but heard they are now permanently closed due to Covid. Next go to is Asian BBQ & Noodle on Jones.

Joyful house is my go to... the big black bean oysters are delicious. rumor has it was recently sold so tough to say how good or bad it is now. it was previously owned by the head chef of MGM. The place has standard fair up to exotic live seafood available.

if you try anything exotic or fancy without a price ask for the price and minimum order quantity sometimes the live seafood can go for upwards of $50+ per pound

My usual place on Seamless is Gourmet Wok, not sure where they are. They're okay. Not mind-blowing, but they're where I order from every Christmas Eve, as a dutiful Jewish transplant here. I think it depends on whether you're looking for "authentic" Chinese, or American-style. Not a knock on the latter, which I grew up on in NYC, they're just different types.

If you're ever in NYC, I'd strongly recommend Wo Hop (DOWNSTAIRS, NOT UP), which opened in 1938 and practically invented the genre.

Wo Hop is still around? Last time I was there saw a huge cockroach, never went back.

That's how they scare off the newbies.

I'm not in NYC anymore, but I'm told that they've had to close during the pandemic, but otherwise are alive and kicking. If I remember correctly, they actually own the building they're in, which has other tenants as well, so the place is basically self-sustaining.
