How did V/P know I moved?

I gotta admit I'm a little creeped out. I recently moved from TX to CO and within a week or two, my regular V/P mailers and offers had my new CO address.

I have not had any interaction with them since Super Bowl.

    How did they do that?

Did you fill out a change of address form at the PO? That's how. They sell it to whoever wants to pay for it.

I did do that, and that's even more creepy. I never would have guessed.

I've been thinking about it, and I'm still stunned. Our government sells our private information to casinos. (*blink*)

In today's world, things like this are updated very quickly on all major databases/ If you've ever seen the words on the outside of an envelope "address correction requested" that is one way, but there are others.

Companies that do a lot of direct mail have systems in place to ensure their mail is delivered to it's intended party.

Look I don't want to make this a 'thing'. I understand how companies interact. I am a software guy... I understand how databases work.

I just think our relationship with the government should be something separate. I expect them to deliver my mail properly. They suck at almost everything, but that's their job. That's it. I don't expect them to sell my information to outside entities without my explicit permission.

I'm logging off for the night. I'm not one of those arguing-on-internet folks, and there's apparently nothing I can do about it.

    I'm just kinda amazed.

    Good night all.

I cant comment on the part about them selling your info to companies, but I do know that if you filled out the change if address, once the V/P or anyone else sends you something at your old address, the post office at that point notifies them, so they dont have to keep forwarding your future stuff.

Your address is not secret information.
Changing it at the post office means you want the whole world know that you moved.
