I guess we are still going as long as things let us go. I work in a cess pool anyways and really illnesses don’t scare me either way. Maybe I am not taking this as serious eithe I dunno

I know the point of this, and other mentions about the "regular flu" are trying to put the effects of the coronavirus into perspective. But, just remember that the effects of cancer and heart disease aren't displaced by coronavirus. And neither is the flu. And neither are car accidents, gun deaths, natural causes, etc. Lots of people get sick every day and lots of people on a planet with over 7 billion people on it die every day.

But still, having another way to get sick (and maybe die, even if it's a 0.5% chance) on top of everything else sucks.

And hitting all at once and a large percentage needing ICU treatment overwhelms the hospitals and they can't cope with it all. ICU's don't have the space for the amount of people who need hospitalization with this virus. They are trying to slow the spread so the hospitals can cope. That's when the deaths drop. They spike when they can't keep up. That's what I'm getting from all my reading on it lately. And if it spreads before symptoms appear, that's scary. How do you know to avoid people who might not do as well?

Omg. The Westjet change fees are ridiculous in this situation as is the risk gauge. Like that will make you feel better or convince you not to change your flight.

I guess it’s better to cancel if you’re not going to be able to do the thing you enjoy like bingo without worry.

Just booked a four day May trip to Vegas on Southwest. Today's sale makes it less than $100 roundtrip. Should have Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, and toilet paper in stock by then.

I've decided that if I really need a gambling trip in the foreseeable future I can go to Encore Boston or the Beau (both comped)- neither of which would have the sheer number of international visitors that Vegas has.

I won't be going to Vegas nor on a cruise anytime soon. GLTA

The NFL is considering several upcoming events. Cancelling the Draft would be a huge economic impact to Vegas

The first of those events is the league meetings scheduled for March 29 – April 1 in Palm Beach Florida and the second is the draft in Las Vegas from April 23-25. League spokesman Brian McCarthy said, via Adam Schefter of ESPN, that plans for both of those events to go forward “remain in place” for now.

He added that those plans could change based on the advice they are getting from the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the NFL-NFLPA’s medical experts at the Duke Infection Control Outreach Network.

“We will continue to monitor and share guidance as the situation warrants and as our experts recommend,” McCarthy said.

The NFL has postponed the annual Consumer Products Summit that was scheduled for Tampa this week

Yeah, we were (are) booked on premium economy, and the change fees are $100 each way. That's $400. I am on hold right now to confirm what my options are. $400 is insane and I will be rethinking my booking policy going forward.

I usually don't worry about paying more for flexible bookings, prepay hotel and car etc. Hasn't been a problem until now and I've saved money, I guess.

Hit 00 this time on the travel wheel, I guess, because it's gonna cost big-time.

I'm not going to cancel until the last possible moment - if there is an official travel advisory prevenenting my travel, I think my credit card insurance kicks in.

I may also see if I can pay $400 and upgrade the tickets to open tickets.

I'm going to have to start calling them WestFuckyouJet. If I cancel - or change - now, it is indeed a $400 penalty.

But you don't get your money back after taking it in the ass. You get money in your WestFuckyouJet "Travel Bank". So you can still spend it only with them. That is so pissy!

I'm going to be looking more closely at change fees and whatnot going forward, that's for sure!!! Been a long time since I got bit like this.

Yikes are you sure it is $100 each way? I had to cancel my flight last June and I swear it was only $100 for the whole trip? I have a flight to Vegas booked for June this year so was just starting to think about the costs involved if I have to cancel.

I had a trip scheduled over Easter. I was going solo to meet up with a friend. I wasn't so much concerned about catching anything myself, however, I have been concerned about catching something that I could then bring to my family, specifically my 84 YO mother who is immune compromised. Yesterday, Delta broadened their "no change fee penalty" to include tickets purchased prior to March, 2020, so I cancelled and will use the funds for another trip later in the year. While the odds of me actually catching the virus on the plane or elsewhere in Vegas may have been low, I didn't feel comfortable taking that risk for a trip that wasn't 100% necessary.

I asked the hotel that we are staying at in two weeks if they have changed or will change their cancellation policy. Nothing has changed they say! Which means if we cancel they will charge the entire 6 nights to our c.c. but, that full amount will be put aside for us to use at their property for a future stay. Following our six nights we are off to Vegas...hmmmm… I really don't know! Still like the odds of becoming infected over the odds of winning $ in Vegas.

The USD/CAD going from $1.30 in early January to $1.37 today is having more of an impact on our planning process (for now) than the virus. And both Delta and American Airlines just cut a bunch of routes to save money and particularly decided to tell the world during that announcement that "no reductions in ticket prices" are planned.

South Point refunded me no problem. They were sooo nice about it. Cosmo was sooo nice about it. Westjet sucks. I will remember.. I can hold a grudge for a long time. Too bad we only have one other airline, and they suck too.

this article explains the trying to not overload ICUs in case anyone is still wondering. It's the calm way of explaining why so many people are concerned now and events are getting cancelled.

"Yet the speed at which the outbreak plays out matters hugely for its consequences. What epidemiologists fear most is the health care system becoming overwhelmed by a sudden explosion of illness that requires more people to be hospitalized than it can handle. In that scenario, more people will die because there won’t be enough hospital beds or ventilators to keep them alive."

T-21 hours and I’ll be Vegas Bound. Maybe my tournament will have 1/2 the players and I’ll be more likely to get a dollar or two. o_O
