Exactly. I want to invest into MGM because it's so low right now and they eventually will recover, but the issue is when. Like you said, if this lasts a long time, people will be too broke to gamble.

A bit off topic, but I think I read somewhere in this thread someone mentioning vaccine stocks. I’m not a financial adviser, but I’ll throw my 2 cents on this. I give serious caution to anyone considering buying stocks in any of the companies working on a vaccine for this virus, as an investment...key word, “investment”. Once this virus passes, there will be little demand and zero money for these companies to move forward. Personally, I hope they would move forward and come up with a vaccine, but history with SARS and MERS shows otherwise. Yes, those stock will move drastically with any news about their clinical trials, but long term, these efforts tend to fizzle out. They can make good trades, but I’d think hard before investing. Getting a vaccine to market would great though, and I really hope they can.

Always hot in hotlanta lol. If it wasn’t for the virus, Savannah would have been fun for St. Patty’s Day.

Did you all see the video of the police trying to get all the people on Bourbon Street to go home? Like herding cats.

I was there! My friend and I were in a bar listening to jazz and the cops kept driving up and down the street making announcements to get off the street. They probably made 6-7 trips up Bourbon but no one moved!

The bar we were in did close their doors to not let anyone else in, but we were allowed to stay til last call.

    It was very eerie.

Regrettably I just cancelled my trip to Cosmo in April. I was being strong but when I heard Wynn and MGM were shutting down and my shows were canceled I just decided it isn’t worth the hassle to travel there not knowing what would happen next. As a senior I’m in the dangerous group if I catch it so I guess I’d better act my age and stay at home for now. I’ll reschedule as soon as things calm down.

My daughter is a nurse and visitors at the hospital are stealing toilet paper and masks believe it or not. They now keep the masks at the nurses station under lock and key.

The DOW just had the biggest single day point drop in its history. There is no investing precedent for this. I'm personally continuing to buy selective oil stocks over the past week because I think that Russia and Saudi will make peace with Opec within 6 months and then oil will go back to $60 a barrel.

Russia and OPEC making peace is the talking point. That's really not what the oil thing was / is about. It was / is more about Russia punishing (attempting to) the US for its historically strong punitive policies and actions, including bombing actual Russian troops early in this administration. Another not so reported thing. Actually, reported exactly the opposite of what was really happening, and is still happening. Less so about OPEC, but still somewhat.

If I were to buy, and I wouldn't until after the election (maybe just prior based on polls, and potential outcome), I'd hedge (insure) with OVX. I own some oil producing land / leases in Central / Southern Illinois, and have been doing this for quite some time.

I've been mostly right about oil since about late 2015, and mostly right about the geopolitical and national security implications. Mostly is pretty good. I've had a couple of losers. Some offshore African flyers as part of a huge speculation. I got greedy. But oil, like most of life, is necessarily intertwined with public policy, politics, accurate information, and false reporting.

Anyway, apologies for cluttering up the covid-19 thread, this probably (the entire financial situation) deserves a thread of its own, where I can further bore you. Mods may feel free to delete if appropriate.

This makes a lot of sense. Also, bet media didn’t report it as such, as it would counter their narrative that a particular someone is a Russian asset.

My local grocery store had to bring the container of wipes for the shopping carts inside the store because people kept stealing them. Some people suck.

That’s why I like dogs more than people. Lol.....Desperate times brings out the worst in some people and the best in others.

I actually found one individually wrapped Purell wipe in the bins of “ extras” that we hoard from all the hotels my hubby’s in. I held that sucker up like I just found the GOLDEN TICKET in a Willy Wonka bar.

Updated. It took a slight turn for the wrose (death / recovery - US), but not an alarming turn for hte worse, just what would be expected as more data is recorded from multiple, credible sources. But there continues to be more good news than bad news.

All the local casinos in and around Vancouver are closed or will be by this evening. Not sure how criminals will launder money here now?
