Hey All! JC & The 7 here... finished our 9th trip out in Vegas and have lots to talk about!

So our first ordeal was getting stuck on the tarmac in Denver because the airline requested we pick up another flight attendant from a different flight. 1 hour later they couldn't verify how many people were on the plane. The system kept showing that there was 1 extra person not accounted for on the flight. I've never seen so many people get counted only to end up at the same number. At the end of it all, I still don't know how they resolved it. Amazingly, they put the plane into hyper drive and only had our landing 20 minutes later than scheduled.

At last we were in Vegas awaiting our transit via BellTrans....dear lord... another headache. It was like they had one bus and one van running. It really didn't help when you noticed all the Showtime shuttles doing so well. I've never seen lines backed up so much for BellTrans. We waited another 40 minutes for that. Not going to use them again in the future. Even the pick up back to the airport was less than stellar.

Luckily, our waiting efforts paid off when we got to Mirage. I batted my beautiful brown eyes to see if they would upgrade us to a suite like they had done last time citing "it was easy because your trip is so short". They wanted to charge us an extra $50 for both nights but I later convinced them to do it for free. What I thought was going to be a regular suite ending up being a penthouse suite instead. SCORE! It really pissed off the guy next to us who claimed the hotel shouldn't be charging him for his room after spending $20,000 in the casino. The front desk clerk said perhaps he should slow down his gambling. Instead he just ended up throwing hundred dollar bills at her (to pay for the room bill). I could only imagine what he did when he heard that we were not only getting the upgrade free but getting the entire stay complimentary. (And we hadn't even played yet.)

Our room was great! A nice living room with dining room which we never used .... an extra large bed overlooking the strip...and a bathroom as big as my bedroom here at home.

I did a little tease down in the casino as far as gambling and lost my money quite quickly. I tried the new 3D Wheel of Fortune machine and had some minor success. The rest of the games were a bit of a blur.

After a night of christening the bed, we woke up late the next day to view the strip and go to the buffet and the Mirage. Now the buffet at Mirage is usually one of our highlights...we really like the food, service, and Jason enjoys the all-you-can-drink wine. However once again we were met with disappointment. The food was old and rather uninspiring. I spent most of my time on crab legs and sushi while Jason drank his dinner. We're shaken in our confidence with their food and wonder whether or not it will continue to be on our list.

After sneaking out a triple filled glass of Moscato, Jason and I hit the traditional machines we play in Mirage. Unfortunately, they got rid of the Jackpot 7's Free games (old video reel) that Jason used to play. However they did still have my Blackbeard's Dabloons which normally has had a decent payback. I ended up gaining about $30 from it on a max bet of $1. I was hoping it was multi-denom but it wasn't as I had hoped to make it my high limit machine for the trip. But alas I played a few other machines.... Brilliant 7's (Won $50) and Gold Bar 7's (won $33). We did end up going to Aria which is where we usually have our best luck. The highlight was Super Free Games $1 denom max bet $5. For me, it's what I considered my high limit machine. I used $50 in freeplay with $50 of my own money. I had a line hit of $80 which happened soon after the freeplay ran out. And I also won the Minor Progressive on Dragon Spin ($50).

For the first time while staying at Mirage Jason and I visited the pool. The pool heaters were oddly warming up certain areas while leaving others quite cold. But after a few minutes we did get used to the water. To dry out, we laid back on some chairs until the pool shut down at 8PM. Before we left one of the attendants asked if the two beers left in a bucket beside us were ours. They weren't but the attended said if we wanted them, we should take them. So we left with two harvest lemon & honey beers. I don't drink but Jason sure enjoyed them.

Our next day, we were excited to get back into gambling. After continually having mediocre success at Mirage we decided to head straight to Aria for the second day of gambling. Wasn't a lot to speak of on this second day neither. I didn't know I was betting $4 on Gator Zillions and won $50 on the first spin. But only after minor successes on Cash Wheel and Wizard of Oz, I decided to cut my losses and save the rest of my money for the evening. We dined at Nine Fine Irishmen @ NYNY. to get their fish and chips. It's been a new tradition for us to stop there... LOVE the ambiance. I wish I could just live in that restaurant. The dark wood, the dim lights, the old knicknacks, and nooks and crannies....love it all! Feels very Sherlock Holmes with a dash of Harry Potter in there. If I ever owned a restaurant I'd want to capture that Old English/Irish cozy pub feeling.

Even though Jason and I have spent 8 times in Vegas before this...we have never seen a show! So after our checkin and MGM Grand (complimentary MyVegas and 1.5 hours standing in line), we got our front row seats for KA. I was told disappointing things about being in the front row of a Cirque show (MyVegas complimentary) specifically that our necks would be sore from constantly looking up. I would have to say that it was a little odd to constantly wonder if I was missing something above or behind me but I actually enjoyed the front. I'm an actor myself so being able to better connect with the content with seeing just how good of actors some of them were ... definitely a rewarding experience.

Unfortunately, Jason's gambling was 10 times worse than mine. He hit a Pinball bonus $1 denom max bet $3 and won $50. He played a Lion Hot Line game with a bet of $2. Got the bonus which won him the ability to win another bonus with up to an 88X multiplier. The gimic was real and it worked. Jason was down to his last 80 cents...not enough to make his full bet. He hit the 60 cent bet and won the free games with a 33X multiplier. The fix was in and the struggle was real! To no surprise, Jason hit $150 in the bonus which of course for a 60 cent bet is amazing. Ironically, Jason had previously asked me not to record the bonus due to the fact that none of the other recordings were panning out much. Whoops.

I myself ended my gambling experience at Luxor/Mandalay Bay which gave me entertaining success at the last trip we had (entertaining meaning I was at least having fun while losing). Ironically, with only $100 left, it got me back to $350 slowly but surely. But I decided to see if Mandalay Bay had the same luck and didn't fare too well. Right away I did Lightning Jackpots Mermaids and won $220. I never did hit again after that. I tucked my tail and brought the $220 back home.

On Wednesday we ended our last full day with playing KISS MONSTER mini-golf at the Rio. We used to walk (rain or burning sunshine) down the road about a mile or so to their original location. This time we saw their new location with the ability to take the free shuttle from Harrah's to Rio and back. The new location looks great and much better than the old ones...plus the workers there are SO adorable. I wanted to put one in my back pocket ;-) I think they will be successful at the Rio...the number of families who walked through I think will treat them well. If you haven't played there yet, it's a great throwback experience...and even if you aren't a KISS rock and roll fan... the minigolf entertains itself and you kinda forget it's all a tribute.

We ate at Aria buffet. We got to expedite our line wait because I upgraded to Pearl Rewards (the hard way) with MLife...or as Jason likes to call it "Opal Rewards".... *eye roll*.... I have to say that Aria was a great way to end our food experience. The food was fresh and tasted great. I can still say Aria has their shit together!

We spent the evening watching the Bellagio fountains and wrapping up the Republican National Debate on TV.

Jason and I are fully aware that in Vegas you get what you pay for....if you're lucky...you get more. In some cases we were lucky...but in others we weren't. Not mentioned up above is that Jason and I each took a turn of being sick on two different days as well. Although not the worst trip, we are already looking ahead to figure out how we can make our 10th trip to Vegas better. Between the two of us, we're trying to use 600K of gold from MyVegas conservatively so we can enjoy the perks on multiple trips. We also have a goal of staying in every hotel on strip at some point. Other than Mandalay Bay, Excalibur, Monte Carlo, we only have the big luxury resorts left on MLife's list (Bellagio and Aria). For Total Rewards we still have Caesars, Ballys, Flamingo, Linq, and Cromwell.

In the meantime, we continue to stay complimentary at Ameristar here in Blackhawk. I'm hoping they will surprise us again with another Vegas offer in the next few months...but...we'll see.

    Love to all! Toodles!~~~

Great recap! Wished you were able to get more wins throughout the trip. The suite sounded pretty darn good- impressed you were able to score the upgrade!! Any idea which hotel you want to try for next trip?

I think it's good to note that we have had a TON of success with free upgrades by splitting our trip into multiple hotels. We received upgrades for free at: Planet Hollywood... Mirage... Luxor... Harrah's.... MGM...and Rio... 5 out of 7 (because Mirage upgraded twice) hotels were because they could fit us in for being there for a couple nights (instead of our entire vacation). And two of those, they approached us with... we didn't have to say anything.

I'm really trying to push Jason to Bellagio or Aria this next trip. Anyone know of room quality?

It sounds like you had a great trip. I can only dream of being upgraded to a Penthouse. Great offer from Blackhawk - I hope they send it to you again because I really enjoyed reading your trip report. Thanks for posting.

Nice report!! Good wins on the slots and what a great surprise to get a Penthouse, for free no less!! Interesting how so many people don't mind staying in multiple hotels on one trip. I have done that a couple of times, but much rather prefer to unpack in one place, settle in and just relax for 5 days in one hotel. It's a pain for me to pack again, check out and start checking in again somewhere else. Maybe I'm just lazy!! LOL

Sounds like a fun trip. Good for you talking the Mirage rep into the penthouse suite upgrade. Sorry you and Jason didn't have better luck with the slots but seems like you got quite a bit of play.
