July 2024 Group Trip Report - Red, White and BOOM!!!

We arrived last night just in time for the fireworks. They were beautiful off the balcony. The strip and Cosmo are busy. Like NYE busy. We gambled until about 1am. Managed to double our day one bankroll. Night cap was a French dip from Henry. Unfortunately, I can't seem to load pics. I will try again after coffee.

 

Well...the coffee did not help my tech issues. But, I managed to upload screenshots so you get the idea. I am not gonna lie...it is toasty here!

 

Yesterday...... Gambling was not great. But today is s new day! Yesterday we did happy hour at LPM. The bar waa full. However, the hostess said we could order the happt hour menu from the bar tables too. We had a nice corner table to ourselves. We had dinner here last month. Their HH menu is great way to sample their drinks and the like without breaking the bank. Definitely recommend. Today we have brunch at Mon Ami Gabi. I think I will hit the pool before that. Still looking for that handpay. Maybe today is the day.

In an interesting twist of fate, it looks like Wynn front desk just cleared my balance without taking any compdollars... Which is actually disappointing because I had some that were expiring and was hoping to use them this trip. I assume it's because the line was crazy long and it wasn't worth calling the rewards desk to confirm.

It looks like Shop Wynn is my only option now... Any suggestions on small items to purchase there?

Well.....it is hot here. Our room ipad said 119 at one point. But that has not stopped us. Yesterday's Mon Ami Gabi was fabulous. We sat in the atrium. It felt like we were outside, but the ac was full blast. Highly recommend avocado toast and champers! The gambling has been very unkind since day two. Today we walked to YardHouse because we had a gift card. The walk ....hot...and zero escalators working. Yard House was solid. Lots of beers and an 80s playlist! Tonight was Zuma for dinner and we were not disappointed. I wish I could talk about more than food, but that has been our only highlight.

 

Currently at pool. Moving through all the alcohol groups. Champagne. Bliidy Mary. Beer chaser. In the shade at Blvd the temps are okay. Now I am going to formulate a plan....to wim. On my last day!

You can do it! One of the things I tend to do is always play the same machines no matter how bad it is and I find when I mix it up and play something not in my normal rotation I sometimes have better luck. So try something new or that you haven’t played in long time. Fingers crossed!

Well...thanks everyone for all the wimming wishes. I definitely should not text without my readers. Currently at airport. Looks like we will be flying into Beryl's rains when we land. Last day gambling was a bust. We finally just started drinking at the Chandy. Seemed cheaper than gambling. Luckily we squirreled away our night one wins, so there is that. I have a pool story from yesterday that I will write about when I get home. Also, I have a few general thoughts about the slot selection.

 

For what it is worth...just a few thoughts. Obviously, unless you count my typos, not a great trip report. But, we still had a BLAST. Come on, it is Vegas. We are definitely thankful we did not get on that plane last Tuesday heading into Beryl. While our resort is okay in terms of structure, in general, Negril still is running off of generators (no ac) and water is being trucked in. That would not have been a fun trip for us at all.

Our last trip to Cosmo was a seven day one in late May/early June. When we arrived, I was disappointed to see that Cosmo had removed so many of my favorite old school slots since March. On one of our days there, we saw about 40 techs from Light and Wonder all around the casino installing new and dismantling old. On this trip, we found that theme continuing. Just lots of new slots where you are waiting on a bonus or a pot/bottle/bowl etc to fill. There are still some old Pinball machines and also some older slots in the front. But soooo many Buffalo and Huff and Puffs ugh. On my next trip, we land the day of the "official" takeover. So, I am going to wander over to Aria to see if I can find some older machines.

My host and I chatted a lot about the takeover. She said right now if I wander to Aria, she is able to see my play. So there is some integration there. Transportation is already integrated, as I received auto messages from MGM about driver being dispatched. At midnight on July 30th machines and tables will be "turned off." Then, she said it everything get a reboot. I mean what can go wrong, right? Sort of reminds me of that scene from the original Jurassic Park when they have to find the main breaker and hope for the best. We land about 12 hours later at noon that day. At that point, if things at Cosmo are not quite right, we will walk to Aria or Bellagio.

The 4th and 5th of July were very busy. The Cosmo casino was packed in general. We gambled mostly during the day because at night it was just too much. In general, all of the staff we encountered were great. Machines were cleaned regularly and the cocktail service was strong no matter where we were. Our driver to the airport said they were told that over 90% of the people that currently qualify for transportation will still continue to do so after the merge becomes official. Hopefully that is true so everyone can keep their jobs.

Anyone wanting an update on Holstein's.... According to our waitress, Holstein's will be repalced by a place called Mijo's that is currently at the Durango. It is upscale Mexican. Holstein's staff were told they would keep their jobs if they stay on, but the Mijo's staff was told the same. So, she and other staff are concened.

Pool
We had a crazy pool incident while at the tiny Blvd Pool. Like a train wreck we were all watching. I jumped up and yelled, the lifeguard jumped in, and the gentelman in the pool swooped the kid up immediately. No life saving measures were needed as everyone moved quickly. But, reports were filed and the caregiver was in tears. We all knew this was coming by the way the caregiver was being rather uninterested in her charges, but I am happy this ended well. She had three littles under five in 115 degree weather. This would be a challenge for many. We later found out at dinner that she is the 21 year old big sister. This kind of explained her attitude. I just thought she was a poor nanny.

On my previous trips for this year my losses were running about 6% of my total coin in. Not terrible considering I play 100% slots. But somehow, the casino always gets their $$. I looked today and surprise surprise, after this five night trip my losses are now 10% of my total coin in for the year. The uptick is my host gave me some back end comps and used my Identity points to cover a chunk of my very healthy folio. When I lose, I seem to go to the pool more and chill at the Chandy. Sometimes paying for those fancy cocktails is cheaper than gambling.

I can't believe this.... but I will be back in 20 days. The next trip is a mom trip. So... I am mentally preparing for that. . My son and his girlfriend are joining us as well for two days. Due to this surprise trip and my next one, I 100% used my Platinum benefits that I just renewed last month. Win for this girl.

Kills me that they continue to replace old machines. I swear if there was a place that genuinely catered just to an old school selection, it would be rammed full of real gamblers, playing hard. But I guess I'm not in the biz so maybe I'm wrong.
