The place was not long for this world -- the sheer amount of money they spent on talent ($60mm to Marshmello alone), plus the expense of getting the dome in place, compounded by the location, made me think it wasn't going to last. They screwed over the staff, though; apparently weekly schedules went out yesterday morning, and then yesterday afternoon everyone found out from Twitter that it was closing immediately.

What a mess. Not really into the whole club scene anyways, but I can't understand how they'd expect to make money with that much money invested in the 'talent'.

The pool with a dome looks cool though

They were probably remembering the glory days of the Palms, back when Real World was filmed there, and they could have recouped the cost. It’s just not the same property and not the same crowds anymore.

I wonder if the fixed costs of nightclubs is going to really curb things over time. Bellagio closes the Bank with no plans to replace it, Intrigue closes earlier in the year, and now Kaos. Not surprised with Kaos, given the crazy salaries too, but I am curious to see if the nightclub trend starts to plateau a bit.

Funny you mention The Bank, I was just hearing today that they're in the process of redeveloping it into something sort of along the lines of the old RRL space at Cosmo but without the dining. Roving performers, etc.

Personally, I think the "fixed costs" of nightclubs are of their own doing. What's most likely to happen, in my opinion, is that a lot of these nightclubs will come back, but without paying a Calvin Harris $450k/show premium. There's a market for bottle service and dancing space; a lot of the operators just got too fixated on name-brand DJs without considering the extent to which they really drive attendance.

The Bank is also a little bit of an oddity given its physical location within the property. I've been told that renovating it is a huge hassle because of the fact that it's in the middle of the casino floor and there's no easy access for cranes and construction equipment.

Yeah, I find the premium especially ridiculous given that the brand name DJ comes on at 1 AM and plays for an hour. By the time the brand name DJ comes on, most of the crowd is too drunk to even know the difference. Vegas has some of the coolest club venues with pools and great views. They just need to ease up off the insane salaries. Throw on some good music and people will enjoy themselves.

The Bank's physical location is also pretty amazing, especially when the fountain goes off. I am very curious to see what they will do with it.

You must be thinking of Hyde, which opened to the fountains. It will reopen early next year as the Mayfair, which will be a supper club concept.

Intrigue is also becoming a supper club.

Oops, my bad. I got the two of them confused. I am unfamiliar with the term supper club. Is that like Tao, where they serve dinner and then it becomes a nightclub?

It's a "retro" thing, similar to "speakeasy" in terms of etymology. The closest analogue is probably RRL at Cosmo -- there's dining as well as entertainment, but it's not a ticketed show. They've said they're specifically not intending a true nightclub experience, as opposed to a place like Tao or Hakkasan, which delineate between the dining part and the nightclub part.

Here's a pretty good description of what they're going for: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/n...bow-mayfair-supper-club-new-years-eve-1243215

I loved going to Hyde while it was a lounge to enjoy the fountains and a few cocktails. Looking forward to trying out the Mayfair, as that location is killer.

When Drake shows up to collect his $1 million per night at XS, he goes on stage at around 1:30-2am and is done in about 40 minutes.
