Friday, 1100: Picked up a fellow slot-junkie friend from McCarran International Airport and headed to M Resort for lunch at 32 Degrees, which is the bar with all the beer on tap between the Vig Deli and the sports book. The 4 of us ordered a Nathan's dog w/ sauerkraut, a bacon cheeseburger, a Cobb salad, and the steak and eggs. Everyone was very pleased with their food and I will definitely eat there again. Our bill was just under $50 (including a 22oz IPA, which was all covered by my food comp. I also had $50 free slot play, too. I have been impressed with the amount of comps I have received from M compared to what I receive from Stations.

Friday, 1430: We played at M after lunch; none of us hit anything decent, rats. Time to go to GVR and get our out of town friend checked in to her room. We showed up at check-in right at check-in time; 3pm. We were told that the room would not be ready until 5pm. GVR was quite busy, with long lines extending from the buffet and the coffee shop. My wife and I went home and left my father-in-law and our out of town friend at GVR. They played slots for a couple hours and never saw a cocktail waitress. When they went back to the lobby at 5pm to get their room, they were told that the room would not be ready until 7pm. Our friend and my father-in-law are both elderly and both have health issues, and after a busy day of traveling and lots of walking, they were both understandably upset.

My wife and I were upset, too. We paid $285 per night for the room, reservation made months ago. We wanted our friend to stay somewhere nice, you know. They finally got into their room around 8pm, but they both wanted to leave GVR and were both hating their experience. They checked out Saturday morning and our friend lodged with us at our house for the rest of the weekend.

It turns out that GVR's inability to serve their customers was due in part to a vote by the workers there to unionize, followed by a strike. FYI, Boulder Station and Palace Station both unionized during the last 12 months. People have opinions regarding unions, and I must remind all respondents to my post to refrain from sharing their viewpoints on unions - I consider it a political topic.

Whatever your stance, the bottom line is that GVR failed to deliver. And never mind that my wife and I are both Chairman (Stations' highest tier). I am finding out that Stations' comps are lousy compared to M Resort, and I get it now why there is no discussion on this site regarding Stations or their comps. Yes, Stations casinos are locals casinos, but none of them could thrive without tourists. GVR did comp our friend's first night, and after some encouragement, they refunded the second night, too.

Saturday: We went to the Skyline casino to play some slots, and this was the highlight of the weekend. We all had fun and everyone got to hit a bonus or two. Skyline doesn't smell as bad as it used to, and I hear that the food has improved too, but I am not yet brave enough to eat there (again). No slot club (yet), but they do have a new mini-hotel, so maybe we'll put our friend up at Skyline the next time she is in town. I will definitely be playing at Skyline again.

Many bonuses and retriggers to you all,

    J_Invisible.

I'm sorry to hear of your experience at GVR. That sucks to pay for a room and have the hotel not deliver. I have friends who were quite pleased with their stay at M Resort.

Thanks for the report. I heard about the union thing but didn't know it was causing a strike. Too bad about the experience.

I used to play at Stations years ago frequently and could get some really nice comps and freeplay of minimal play. Then after one trip where I played a lot they just stopped, probably back in 2012 if I recall correctly.

I stayed one night at GVR eariler this year when I decided to extend a trip by a day last minute. they did give me a discounted rate up front. I played a lot, and lost about $700 overall on slots. Usually that will get at least a free room, especially at a locals casino. Talked to a host next day and they said I was no where near the level of play to ask for anything, so didn't knock off the rest of the rate or resort fee. Nothing like the way it used to be there.

I recently spent a day playing at the M, and did pretty well gambling wise. I can get free rooms now anytime time plus freeplay and buffet comps, haven't stayed there but I am in a few weeks. No desire to go back to play at a Station casino, plenty of other good options in the area.

Nice to hear positive comments on the M. I consider M to be a locals casino, along with South Point, Silverton, and Orleans. A shout out to these casinos - I usually hear positive comments on these houses.

I live here, and my friends and neighbors work in these places. When things go bad for the player, it is bad for me and my community. I would rather not post negative comments, but by disseminating this info it is my intention to protect the player and that includes me, because I am also a player.

I love the M and Anthony’s restaurant is really underrated. It’s prices are great and has a beautiful dining area, where you can eat outside on the huge deck/balcony and has a great view with perfect soft lighting. They even have a menu sharing option so if you can’t decide between two mains, they let you combine with a smaller portion of each on one plate. The sea bass was excellent and the cocktails are huge and well made. Great service. I think I’m the only one who posted about it on the boards. Lol The last time I ate there we dined inside as it was windy but I have a photo....[IMG]

I appreciate seeing the good and the bad, I think everyone does here. If one of these places doesn't treat players well others should know, and maybe they will try to improve. I also am a big fan of Silverton and Orleans, and also both of the Cannery properties. They all seem to have some good odds and I get nice offers from them. I want to like South Point, but they just don't send any offers to anyone that isn't a local, so I don't play there anymore. I'm technically not a local living in Arizona so no matter how much I play there never got even a weekday room offer.
