I lost or spent a little over half my trip bankroll. So not bad. Sitting at Popeyes now finally through the line.

After flight change fees, credit card charges I need to pay and parking I'll have about $2000 to put back in the bank. I have a trip planned this summer but this trip left me wanting more. I didn't feel like I got the full Vegas experience and was not myself.

I will post a recap of the trips events when I feel a little better. I did some fun things and there are some things I would like to share. I also got to meet someone from the board and gamble a bit which was a cool experience. Looking back, I should have just cancelled this trip because I was running on fumes from the start. I conducted myself in a way that is outside my character and let a few things bother me that I would usually just brush off. The family thing that happened was the final kick in the nuts that sent me home. Things are stable now and I'm I'm going to get a flight in May or June to see my dad again and take care of some things I didn't have time to do on my last trip. I plan to go back to Las Vegas this summer for a real trip once things are in order. My girlfriend will be going which I'm excited about. Thanks again to everyone following along. Real life got in the way of this one.

Glad things worked out at home and are stable, and thanks for the report, even when you were under the weather. You deserve another trip with no worries, hope you get it in the summer!

So I got a call late last night that my father was in the VA hospital. After some several very tense moments, I finally found a nurse that would help me talk to him. I come to find out he got a really bad infection on an abscess tooth and had to be taken to the emergency room as his head was swelling up like a balloon. They put him on some very strong antibiotics and plan to remove the tooth and any lingering infection today. I am planning a trip with the girlfriend to see him this summer. When it rains it pours.

Because I have so much going on, summarizing some of my trip should be therapeutic so I'll kick things off with my first day in Las Vegas.

    DAY ONE

Day one of my Las Vegas leg began by nearly missing my flight. I was pretty much a zombie and left for the airport late after eating Chic-Fil-A with my GF. I arrived to the airport parking lot about an hour before my flight and ran what seemed like miles to check in with my suitcase and backpack. When I got to the front of line already sweating profusely, I put my suitcase on the scale and it came in at 55 pounds. I started to sweat even more and frantically ripped open my suitcase and transferred some shoes and jeans to my carry on until the agent would take my bag.

Through the grace of god I made it to my plane on time without having a heart attack (I even managed to eat McDonald's for the 4th time in as many days) and a quick nap later I was already descending to the promised land! Nothing is a better feeling than seeing sin city through your little airplane window.

Once the plane landed, the excitement started to build. After a very rough week I had finally arrived. My heart was racing and I rushed out of the plane and down the concourse to get my bag. Las Vegas has the fastest baggage claim in the country - I guess they want to get you to the casino ASAP.

Once I retrieved by 51 pound suitcase (I wasn't charged but I had the heavy tag), I drug it over to the taxi line. Shockingly there was no line on a Tuesday of March Madness. I walked straight to the cab stand #6.

I knew I may be in trouble when a small SUV pulled up and a guy who barely spoke English got out. He was talking on his blue-tooth and had his cell phone in one hand. He opened the back door with the other and started to lift the bag but with it being too heavy to lift with one hand he gave me a nasty look and said, "You Help?"

I lifted the thing into the back for him, he shut the door and I got in the back seat. He asked where and I said, "Paris." He started driving and got into the freeway lane. He looked in the rear-view and said, "You want freeway?" I said, "fuck no, take the side streets." He swerved and missed the exit to the tunnel.

When this happened, I wanted to take a picture of him but me being in a zombie state from the previous week's events forgot to turn off my flash. I tried to pretend like I was texting and take an incognito picture of my driver but the flash went off. It startled me out and I dropped my phone haha. I'm not sure what I got a picture of, my finger?

The ride to Paris should only include one or two left turns, but we made 4 or 5. I think this is the way cabbies mini-long haul you and increase their fair. They try to keep the meter running for every minute possible. The total fair was 18.37 so I gave him a 20 and went inside. I considered making him give me back 1.63 but I didn't want the hassle and was already exhausted.

After a travel day that started before 5:30 AM, I was finally here and off to Diamond check-in I go...

Sorry to hear about your dad. I hope things get better.

Cab drivers that are constantly on their phone really grind my gears. I'm not sure how they can talk to someone the whole day.

It drives me crazy too. I've just taken the mentality that it will be over quickly and unless something legitimately happens on the road to delay us the cabbie is getting a $20 whether the fair is $10 or $30. It takes a lot of the stress out of the ride.

My dad is doing better. They are done with the procedure and they're giving him one more round of meds then they're going to release him tonight. The nurses were great and didn't pull the typical hospital crap that they couldn't speak to me about him. They kept me very well informed every time I called.

Glad to hear you dad made it through okay and the nurses were able to release all the info! It's stressful enough a situation, the distance doesn't help when you can't be there- glad they understood that! Hopefully your dad will be feeling better within the next couple days!! Great pics from the first day- love the first one out the wing of the plane!

That's good to hear your dad came through ok. Hopefully the next trip will be uninterrupted and you'll be able to get as much of Vegas in ya as possible.

    DAY ONE CONTINUED

Check-in was a breeze. My good fortune probably had something to do with arriving after the rush, but I was in and out within five minutes. There wasn't even a long line at the regular check in desk. The place was empty.

I grabbed a few bottles of water for my room on the way out and off I went. I got the Le Mans Suite which is the room I am typically put in when staying at Paris. It's called a suite but it's not really a suite. It has a living room area connected to the bedroom area and a wet bar included. It has a separate small room with a desk and walk in closet then another door to the bathroom with a large jetted tub and shower area. The toilet area is through another door and includes a bidet which as you all know was key for this trip. :) It is an upgrade from their standard room and a perfect sized room if I travel alone or with my girlfriend. I will stay here for my next trip.

After getting to my room I was still feeling a little ass'E so I decided I'd unpack and go from there. Usually I just dump my bags and head to the tables. I was feeling so down I even contemplated just going to sleep. Even the sights and sounds of Las Vegas weren't doing their trick. Once I had unpacked I called my girlfriend to let her know my plans. She urged me to go gamble - it's why I was there. So after bathroom destruction #1 - I grabbed a stogie and off I went.

    0ea115cdb2c1b4ff4ff7eeef75342e4d.jpg

I decided I would start with just my free play. My offer included $300, so I went to the cage to get table games slips. They printed me 6 $50 slips and I started my hunt.

I found an empty $25 table and sat down. I got the third base seat and started with two hands. Service was fast but I just ordered water with the intent of hitting it hard tomorrow. I also decided I would just chew on my cigar for now because I feel bad killing the dealer with the thick smoke.

The first 15-20 minutes were up and down and I washed the promo slips and had 10 greens in front of me. I wasn't done and wasn't ready for bed so I kept going.

And then this happened. Dealer had a 4 showing and I was dealt a soft 17 on my first hand and a pair of 6's on the second. First hand I doubled and got a 3 - BANG! 20. Is that even the right play? Second hand I split and got a 2 on the first hand. I hit the 8 and got a 9 for a hard 17. The second 6 was dealt a 4 and I doubled. I got a 5 making 15. I had all 10 of my green chips on the felt with the dealer showing a 4 and me totaling 20, 17 and 15. I had work to do but felt pretty good. Then the dealer showed her down card, a four. My heart sank. I still wasn't ready for bed, so I reached in my pocket to pull out some bills to keep playing. I just knew I was going to lose this one. But - 8 - Q - 26 BUST! I was back in business.

    7eaeb2351e5be5700b2236fe1a5268a2.jpg

I now had $500 in front of me and slid the 5 benjamins back into my pocket. I was back in business. Time for a dealer change -
