That's my point. From everything I've read, in reality it's a gratuity that goes almost entirely to the staff (I think MGM takes like 1%, which is annoying but not insane). Except by calling it a "service fee", they're creating exactly this type of anger and confusion.

I never saw the article with MGM taking 1%.....I wouldn't believe it anyway. lol The majority could go to staff, but that could incl. any type of management, incl. vice -presidents. My assumption is they are using it for "spa payroll".

I just did a facial last weekend at Delano. I was AWARE of the 20% from this board. (but still 20% on top of $150 is enough) The check in girl did point out...there is an automatic 20% tip, of which 18% goes directly to your therapist, masseuse, etc. She did not offer to me where the extra 2% goes. I should have asked. I hope it goes to the ladies who attend the shower room, emptying towel and robe bins, changing the combs, brushes, cleaning the sinks from all our hair and on and on. I usually tip them separately, just a buck or two tho. I edited to add I usually only give the esthetician $15 on a $150 facial, as I get the facial comped, but I give $5.00 to the front desk including the girl who WALKS YOU UP THE STAIRS)

Yes that would be good if they tipped the attendants. I wonder if the service providers who get the large tips distribute money to the attendants and others.

Im glad they add the 20%. Im sure there are a lot of people that short tip the employees. I would have to guess their base wage is based upon a standard tip structure, just like a bartender waitstaff.

I always tip 20% and more especially when its comped and at a casino. Im blowing money left in right in casino so why not take such a tiny percentage of what i blow and help the person providing a great service, or even if not so great. I never shortchange anyone who relies on a tip for income, anyone can have a bad day.

For what it's worth, I was at Aria for a haircut last week, for the first time since they instituted the new charge. At the end, I tried to give my barber a $20 and she actually initially turned me down, saying, "That's not necessary, it's included now." She wound up taking it after I insisted, but it seems like the staff do find this as a good thing and not just a money grab on the part of the resort.
