I've never participated in the Holiday Gift Shoppe program, but it looks like we'll be in Vegas just at the right time this year. I don't have a lot of points, but I'm curious about this Spin to Win Slot Tournament. You get one entry per 2,500 points redeemed. I've also never participated in a slot tournament.

Has anyone done this HGS slot tournament in the past? I'm not even sure if it was offered previously. Do you just pick a machine, bang on the button as fast as you can for a few minutes, and then hope you have the highest score at the end of the day? Was it super crowded in previous years with long lines? I'm just curious what to expect.

Anyone have an opinion on whether it's better to say redeem 15,000 points for $50 freeplay, or to use that 15,000 points for 6 slot tournament entries to go for the larger freeplay amounts? If there are a ton of entrants, I assume a bird in the hand would be better. But I guess we're there to gamble, and $50 goes in the blink of an eye.

    Daily Prize Structure:
    1st Place: $2,000 FREEPLAY
    2nd & 3rd Place: $1,000 FREEPLAY
    4th & 5th Place: $500 FREEPLAY

Plus they give away gift points for the top 20 finishers.

I'd guess the Freeplay is a better deal, given that you're likely competing with a few thousand people across all the resorts for a measly 5 places in the slot tournament.

If I have some leftover points that are below the threshold, I will use them here. But last year, they let me straight convert everything.

I have done it in the past. If you choose to participate, they have tournament style games set up at the holiday gift shop location and you wait your turn and do exactly what you said; bang the button as fast and as many times as you can for three minutes. Your score is recorded and you are told after the qualifying period is over if you won. Like VegasMonkey, I only would play if I had an odd number of points left after gifts and/or free play conversion. And just in case you didn't see it, the conversion is 15,000 points = $50 in free play.

Wow, I wasn't thinking of thousands of participants. That does make the odds quite poor. But I'm going to win, so I guess it doesn't matter... :). Although, now that I think it through, banging on that button may get old very quickly.
