This is my first TR!! I decided to write up my TR post trip till I get used to writing them up like a pro while on the trip. Just a lil background of myself and this trip to Vegas… I used to be an avid gambler (low roller by average standards). In 2009, I got married and gave up smoking, drinking and gambling out of the blue. I picked up the gambling again and never looked back at smoking/drinking. I do however have the occasional drink from time to time. This vegas trip was an idea of my wife to take me back to the place I used to love. This is my first time back to vegas since 2009 (ironically my last trip was my stag prior to getting married in 09).

Im a newb to the way comps and gambling averages work in Vegas. I did read up a bit before leaving for my trip but unfortunately I didn’t do things right on this trip. Unlike Vegas, the comp system here at local casinos (Fallsview in Niagara and Rama) are much different. I usually just call in get rooms whenever I want and request food comps when Im hungry. They pre book my comped rooms and comp my food on the spot on demand depending on my play. I guess in Vegas you are suppose to charge your food to your room and talk to a host about comping the at the back end of the trip? Unfortunately I didn’t realize this. In the grand scheme of things after reading many TRs on here, I considered myself a micro roller so I didn’t bother looking into whether I had a host or not. By the last day of my trip, one of the hosts at Cosmo reached out to me by email and introduced herself. Only then had I realized that she had offered to cover my resort fees and my last meal before our flight. She did however give us a comped room for the last day as our flight didn’t leave till 11:30pm. I think she stated my numbers were $39k coin in and avg $150 bet on roulette over 5 hrs. Didn’t make a difference as I steamrolled through my bankroll of $6k plus whatever else I took out via ATM (maybe another 4k). Sorry for the long intro but alas, my attempt at a TR.

Flew out of Toronto. Trip was booked from Tues Apr 11th till Sat Apr 15th. We chose to arrive late and leave on the red eye. Originally we were going to book the typical Thurs to Sun package which are pre packaged but the Tues to Sat turned out to be cheaper by $700/person. Saved us $1400 in total and gave us an extra day in Vegas. I consider that a win win since my days of clubbing and chasing skirt are over.

Hotel: Stayed at the Cosmo. Checked in at 11:30pm thinking nothing good was left room wise. Slipped a $20 between the id and CC and ended up getting a complimentary upgrade to a wraparound suite (room 3178). Scored the perfect corner between las vegas blvd and the fountain at Bellagio.

The following are some pics/vids from our trip:

    Food:

We ate at Henry, Holsteins, GR Steak, China Poblano and a few places along the strip. Im a big fan of mexican hole in the wall food so I forced my wife to hit up Tacos El Gordo and Robertos by the Hard Rock. Honest El Gordo was hands down my favourite meal for the entire trip.

My wife chose GR Steak. It was the one and only thing she wanted to direly try out. We ended up getting the tasting menu even though I urged my wife not to. I had no choice but to get it because if you order the tasting menu, everyone at the table must as well. It was the Hells Kitchen menu. $175/pp. Totally underwhelming and disappointed in it. My wife felt bad after the meal because she did not enjoy it at all. It was such a let down. We should have got the porterhouse!!
    IMG_5434.jpg IMG_5438.jpg IMG_5440.jpg IMG_5444.jpg IMG_5447.jpg IMG_5449.jpg

I honestly think the Sticky toffee pudding was bigger and better than the wellington
    IMG_5450.jpg

We did a lot of walking. We walked from PH to Encore, then back down the other side to Cosmo. The next day we did Cosmo to Mandalay Bay then the other side back to Ballys. So many ppl on the strip

    IMG_5416.jpg IMG_5418.jpg IMG_5422.jpg IMG_5424.jpg IMG_5427.jpg

    Downtown was packed as well.

    IMG_5475.jpg

My wife wanted to visit the Grand Canyon. It would be her first time. We decided to the Maverick Helicopter tour to the west rim. Was a bit expensive but totally worth it as my wife loved it.

You will be live TRing in no time. You got a very nice $20 room upgrade. And just for clarification...your roulette average was $150 per spin for 5 hours and you consider yourself a micro-roller? Negative ghost-rider. That makes you a very solid player at a strip casino. Thanks for sharing your first trip back in a long time.

I enjoyed your first trip report and am looking forward to future write ups. Thanks for posting. PS I'm not really a Gordon Ramsey fan but I do love the sticky toffee pudding.

I'm curious what room you initially had booked, to get a free upgrade to a east tower wrap around?
Also, if you think it's packed during the weekdays...forget going on a weekend, lol

My wife booked the 1 bedroom studio/standard room. My wife did the talking. I needed her to learn as she is a very shy person and gets all flustered. At first we didnt think we were getting anything. Then clerk made a call and she told us we were upgraded. I had pre conceived that if I got an upgrade, Id probably gamble exclusively at the Cosmo. If I didnt get anything, I was going to move around. It felt good getting that upgrade so I stuck with roulette and slots at Cosmo. Burnt maybe another 2k at other propeites while we walked in and out of them.

By the way, Im a bit ashamed to admit this, but my favourite drink on the strip is the Strawberry Slushie with Mango rum from those Evening Call stops.

$10K USD is like $14,000 Canadian. No wonder Fallsview and Rama book room and comp food on demand to this micro-roller. ;-)

I want to be a micro roller also ... :)

Nice pictures and video and an enjoyable read. Thank you for sharing.

That wraparound would be such a great room to have after a 8 year absence from Vegas. A strawberry mango rum slushie sounds fantastic-no judgement here. Loved the recap and pictures!
