Hi everyone, my brother-in-law will be joining us on a trip to Vegas in August, and he just does not play slots or tables. It's annoying but he's family ;). The one other time he joined us in Vegas he did spend some time at the sports book at the Venetian and he even placed some bets. We want him to have something to do while the rest of us are out on the casino floor, and I know nothing at all about sports books or what makes a good one, so your thoughts on where to send him would be much appreciated!

Have you decided where you are staying yet?

I have only been in a few sports books areas, but this I what I experienced. The Hard Rock sports book was too small. It was like they converted a gift shop into a sports book. I thought the Caesars sports book was too big. It was like sitting in a movie theater. I thought the Bellagio sports book was just right (Goldilocks and the three bets). It's in between the poker room and a snack area. The staff was very nice and helpful. I don't have enough experience with all the sports books, but I think you should look for somewhere with comfortable seating, good food, big tv screens and a welcoming atmosphere. You may want to consider alternate activities though. In August, there won't be any basketball, football or hockey. There will be baseball, NASCAR, and horse racing.

If he is a horse player, August is a great time to hang in any book. The 2 premiere meets are running then at Saratoga and Del Mar. The Venetian book is a good one, and it has Emeril's food as well. My favorite book now is at the Trop which is my new Vegas home. It has a great TV system, friendly tellers and comfy seats.
If he is primarily a sports bettor, August is filled with plenty of baseball to bet. Any book will be happy to take baseballs bets and very little shopping is required since the odds tend to be pretty much the same everywhere for baseball.
If you have any further details on his preferences and where you are staying, I will be happy to try to help. I spend many hours in the books myself...........

Thanks so much, Kitty and Rick! We'll be staying at the Aria but we do get around. I'd be shocked if he was interested in NASCAR but he is a big baseball fan and he seemed intrigued by the horses when we took him to Santa Anita in December, although he didn't place any bets then. Maybe August will be a good time for him to spend some time in the sports book after all! I will definitely mention the horse racing to him so he can do his homework. For sure he did enjoy the Venetian and I remember him saying he really liked the food from Emeril's, so what they have there is appealing. He does enjoy craft beer but I bet they have that most places, no? The Trop and Bellagio sound like good options that he should check out!

I spend many hours in the sportsbook. I haven't been to all of them, but the Mirage has a really nice book. Planet Hollywood, I enjoy as well. Comfortable seats, lots of screens, and a bar and food place right next door. Also Earl of Sandwich, which makes the best sandwiches.
